Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

Anyone know the best deal on the PS3 version? Is the $10 coupon Amazon deal the best? I can't find any weekly ad flyers for the B&Ms that reference this release.

THANKS!

THANKS!
TRU will give a $13 (cute) Gift card with purchase. Tax and gas will likely negate the $3 difference in price, though. It might be worth it if you also want God of War III, since TRU will give a $20 GC with that purchase next week and you could use this GC on that purchase.

I took advantage of a Discover card promo last November to pre-order. Here's my Amazon billing summary for FF XIII:

Item(s) Subtotal: $56.99
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
Discover Card Promo: -$10.00
-----
Total Before Tax: $46.99
Estimated Tax: $0.00
-----
Grand Total: $46.99

Fold in the $10 game credit for this purchase, pay using the $20 credit from Battlefield BC 2 and it turns into a pretty great deal.

They probably could have made it better if they had more time, remember it was announced for 360 pretty late.

That, and I believe they said that they pretty much completed the PS3 version first and worked on the 360 afterwards.

It pains me to say that this may be the first FF game I pass on. Will wait to see what the verdict is.

Why this one specifically? Doesn't sound any worse than X or XII.

It's amazing how FF fans are completely split between X and XII. I don't know of anyone who really liked both. I was a HUGE fan of XII and though X was the low point in the series.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

FFX was entertaining but narratively shallow. FFXII had a better set of characters (sans the two leads) but in the end a very boring retelling of Star Wars.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

I think VII was my all-time favorite. I loved the old NES Final Fantasy titles, but VII was the one that really defined the series IMO.

I think VIII was more of VII, just different characters. IX was pretty bad I thought. X was alot of fun, but I never finished it. Same with X-2. XII was great, but I also never finished it.

Maybe the fact that this game is shorter in terms of side quests, and extra stuff might make it easier to finish.

Same. Maybe it's because I picked up a PS2 fairly late (not until the Slim came out), but I thought X was pretty poor. Bad voice acting, characters, and plot. Tidus and Wakka already top my least favorite characters in the Final Fantasy universe. I really enjoyed 12, despite some complaints about the combat and quickening system. Just a far more intriguing and mature story.

I really liked 9, mostly because of the homages to the previous games in the series and a return to medieval fantasy rather then the more futuristic stuff lately.

IX was a favorite of mine too. Aside from the awe factor of VII being the first "next-gen" FF game, I'd say IX was a better game overall.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

IX was one of the few post-VII Final Fantasies that I actually got around to finishing (and this was in spite of the game having perhaps the worst strategy guide of all time, which forced you to LOG INTO THEIR STUPID WEBSITE to get strategies). I think people complained that that game was too linear (similar to complaints of this game) but I enjoyed it, and I liked that the characters were not just all basically the same but with different specials.

I rented IX a lot. Great game. I wish it were available on PS3 or got a GoW 1&2 style upgrade.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

Teamxbox rates it 5 out of 10

http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360...ntasy-XIII/p1/

however there is a weird disclaimer at the top saying the review is just from the first 30 hour of gameplay and when he finishes he will amend the review.

I did read somewhere that the game takes 30 hrs to finally get good.

Or someone was trying to get a review score out there to beat everyone else, since I haven't seen that many 360 reviews come out yet from major publishers.

91 from 1up.

Are people really desperate enough for gaming entertainment to put up with 30 hours of gameplay that isn't good?

Joystiq says it's only 15.5 hours (and those first several hours are "pure, unadulterated tedium" )
