Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

So I popped FFXII (PS2) into my PS3 to start it up finally, it is the first Final Fantasy I have wanted to quit during the intro, it seemed like a high budget, half-assed Suikoden / Star Wars hybrid ... nearly put me to sleep It doesn't at all feel like Final Fantasy and the guy keeps talking and I keep not caring ... not a good sign.

Get ready to continue not caring. I found the sidequests far more interesting than the actual narrative. It's a dreadfully dull story.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

I think I'm already done and have given up on it

I have videogame ADD these days, if you don't keep me interested (with even a hint of something interesting to come) in the first hour with either kickass story or thrilling gameplay, it's over.

That's too bad, I thought the plot was infinitely more interesting then X.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

I may get back to it eventually, but it does have a pretty terrible initial impression.

Final Fantasy X had better pacing (at the beginning at least) and a more interesting world/setting despite a lackluster overall story. I'm not feeling the whole "Futuristic medieval" setting, and the plot so far is taking itself way too seriously, plus the "warring nations and vengeful princess/royalty on the run." is just dull and uninteresting. I'm sure it gets better, but it is definitely a chore.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

Pacing is the major failing of XII. Although I applaud them for playing it straight and keeping the story serious, I hate how tedious they made it all. I also hate how they made the least interesting character (Vaan) the protagonist. He has zero impact on the story.

My wife watches the 27" SDTV, or the 32" HDTV in the other room. She lets me watch the 47" HDTV in the front room.

She says "HD? Who cares. I don't notice the difference."

Women.

That's the same thing with my wife. We have a 27" HDTV in the bedroom but we have a SD DirecTV receiver hooked up to it. I asked her if she wanted an HD receiver for the bedroom and she said, "No, I don't notice a difference."

Back to FFXIII... I thought about it some more and I'll probably end up getting it on Tuesday. If it ends up sucking then I'll just ebay it.

A friend of mine is getting it so I'll just play it once he's done with it.

I thought the story was quite boring. I think when I got to the part where you go through the underground railroad station (first dungeon?) Is when the game picked up and started to get fun.

I'm definitely picking XIII up Tuesday.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

I'm curious to see what IGN gives it. Will they surprise everyone and give it something like an 8.9, or 9.2? Or will they come and out say "this isn't a FF game" and rate it a 7.4, or 7.9?

I loved the setting, it was my second favorite to Final Fantasy 9. I tend to hate most of the art style in Final Fantasy games. I thought Final Fantasy 10 was extremely blah as most fantasy games. 9, 12 felt like real places.

Re: FFXIII no longer a PS3 exclusive?

I ended up canceling my Amazon preorder. Even the good reviews for it have turned me off to the game. It is like they spend half the review making excuses for the game design. I've never seen such negatively written positive reviews. I know a couple of people getting it and I will try their copies before plunking down my own money for it. I'm worried it will be like Japan and the game will be $20 within a month or two of its release.

Which reviews have you seen or read that say that....I like to see those as well, as I am curious about the game if it is worth $60.

Buy it from Amazon. Get a $10 gift card. If it sucks, trade it in to Gamestop for $40-$50 with their deal that's going on. Buy something else.

Not that difficult.

Jeremy Parish's review at 1up was one that really stuck out. He gave the game an A- which sounds like a great score, but the review itself seemed to have a lot of excuses being made for the game design. I also listened to the 2 hour 1up podcast where they discussed the game. Again they call it a great game, but then spend most of the 2 hours complaining about it or defending what they admit is a direction that is a huge step back for the series. The game sounds okay, but with next to no side quests, no towns and a completely straight path design it just doesn't sound like something I want to play simply for the pretty visuals and story.

I think the Western RPGs like Fallout and Mass Effect have ruined any ability for me to pay $60 for FFXIII.

When you explain it in that aspect, that makes it a huge disappointment for FF fans (myself being one), western RPGs are most certainly the king of the genre and now I'm debating back and forth to get either this or God of War III.

They said it was in their last hands-on. I've been checking every hour or so. Maybe they're giving people time to soak in the God of War review before posting it up.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

This one's a pass for me. I don't have time to devote 15 hours before the game gets good. That's a week of gameplay for me.

Re: FFXIII Thread of chocobo ranching

I notice the end of the preview stats "I'd go with the PS3 version because it's sharper and the 360 version spans 3 discs" -- does the 3 disc thing actually bother people?
