What's interesting is now third-party developers are actually making the Wii versions of games completely different than the 360/PS3 versions to take advantage of the different control schemes. For example, Spider-Man 3. Which means they could potentially have customers buying two copies of their game -- one on Wii, one on 360/PS3.

I got mine on launch day. Didn't wait too long, got there about 45 minutes to an hour before the Target opened. Could have gotten there even latter as another person didn't arrive until 20 minutes later and the last person to get a Wii showed up about 10-15 minutes before the store opened.
Since then I have not seen another Wii in stores.

I spent about 16 hours waiting at Wal-Mart. But we were indoors and had things to do, freely left for lunch and dinner, and held spots in line. Enjoyable experience and I have a Wii to show for it without hunting or watching tracker sites.

I waited an hour and a half (indoors--mall) in September or whenever to get a pre-order at Gamestop an then just waltzed in at opening on launch and picked it up.
I hate game stores, but they are useful for console launches.
But I'll admit I didn't think they'd be near this hard to find. The GC sold pretty crappy and really sucked balls its last two or three years, and this was a slightly more powerful console with a control scheme that intrigued me but that I thought others would write off as gimmicky.
Kind of ironic that now others seem to love the controls and I've found them gimmicky so far.

Nintendo to ramp up Wii production
Ellie Gibson 15:25 (BST) 26/04/2007
"Steady flow" of consoles promised for 2007
A Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the company plans to increase Wii production as demand for the console continues to outstrip supply.
"For the first three months of this year we have been producing one million hardware units per month. We are increasing the manufacturing capacity and forecast to ship 14 million in this fiscal year to our distributors and retail customers globally," the spokesperson said.
"We have put solid production plans in place to ensure a steady flow of product through 2007. We are constantly replenishing Wii supplies however with such high demand, stock is still flying off shelves so consumers should continue to be in touch with their local retailers to confirm when new stock is arriving."
The comments came after Nintendo released year-end financial results, announcing that 5.84 million Wii units have been sold so far. However, the console is still in short supply across many territories.
When asked when Nintendo expects the shortages to subside the spokesperson said, "We are increasing our production capacity of Wii units, but with the unprecedented demand for the console we can’t predict that at this time."

That's crazy. A million a month can't satisfy demand. Good for Nintendo of course.

I downloaded Gradius III today, as I had 1800 points sitting my account for the last 2 months. The game is really fun, I owned it back when I had a SNES back in the DAY. Still great fun.

Which is unfortunate, since that's the version I really want to play.

Not sure how many would be interested, but I saw a PC Konami compilation at TRU yesterday that had Castlevania 1-3, Contra & Super Contra on it. Buy one get one free. No mac support. Would definitely be cheaper than buying them all separate once they are available on the VC.

I shake my head at the prices people pay for VC games. However, I already played most of this so I guess its a decent value if the game is new to you. I really want to see the VC used to bring over more games never released in the US and for new content. That is when I will start spending more points.

I've bought all the Zelda's on the VC and I have the GCN OoT disc and the GCN Zelda Collection. I've also bought all the Mario games (SMB, SMW, SM64, Mario Kart) on the VC. There's just something about having all of them on the Wii.
It kinda sucks that I'm now out of room (35 games downloaded as well as all the channels). I really hope Nintendo does something about the memory issue, either let me play of a SD card or a portable hard-drive.

I'll buy Majora's Mask on VC since the Cube version is fucked. But I'm keeping my Ocarina of Time Master Quest disc.. I don't know if that'll show up on VC or not. It probably will, but.. it's still special for now.
