I'm still waiting for Actraiser. Europe got that weeks ago.

Same here. I said I wouldn't buy anymore until I got that one, but I'm on a Castlevania kick and might have to pick that one up.

Played through Super Castlevania IV a couple months back. Finished Dawn of Sorrow last month and am knee deep in Portrait of Ruin right now. Still have to pick up SOTN as well. The year of Castlevania for me.

I think that video was switching between PAL regions for the Eur/Aus consoles. I don't think the you can bridge territories at will from NA, JPN, or Eur/Aus. Or a update since that video has closed that hole.

Question: can Mii's migrate from console to console via the Mii Parade? I ask because I see some Miis representing DVDTalkers who are not on my friends list.

I think that's the intent of mingling. I never could figure out if it actually worked or not and I wonder how many "degrees" they'll travel, if it is restricted at all. Also what sort of rules it uses to determine what Miis mingle to whom. Because I have around 500 in the parade and my friend list has been filled since December or January (but I need to do some housecleaning on that now).

I figure I've have thousands by now if it was completely open.

This might be a stupid question, but do you have to buy a "GameCube" memory card or will a Wii memory card work with GameCube games?

The main reason I ask is that I could never save PS1 games on my PS2. I don't want to get a Wii memory card, intending to use it for some GameCube stuff, and have it not work. They aren't cheap after all.

But dazed, I think you can use the GameCube controller to play any of the games, including VC ones, if that helps any.

You have to have a Gamecube memory card. Once you launch a Gamecube game, the Wii goes into full-on GC mode with no Wii features at all. You can't even hit "Home" on a Wiimote to get back to the Wii's menu - you have to reset the system.

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way. If the Miis really did a lot of traveling, I would have thought that I would have a lot more. I also have between 500-600 in my parade, but with a few slots still open in my address book.

What Groucho might be finding are Miis from DVDTalk members not on his friends list but who are on another DVDTalk member's list who is on Groucho's list. I hope that wasn't TOO convoluted, but it did make my head spin a bit.

Don't buy the Nintendo-branded "Wii memory cards"! These are just overpriced SD cards.

You can get a generic SD card very cheap nowadays, so go that route. Note that the Wii can only read up to 2 gig cards, so don't buy anything bigger than that.

I'd like to add to this. Don't buy any memory card for the Wii, Nintendo brand or generic SD. There's just no need unless you want to view pictures or listen to MP3s on whatever games may support that feature (Excite Truck, others?).

Well, if you fill up your memory with saves and VC games, a card will be good for offloading the extra. I'm nowhere near that point, but I threw an SD card I had laying around in there for good measure.

Thanks for the information, everyone.

So, for playing Gamecube games, would this one probably be the best way to go?

I still wish they could have made the Wii memory cards compatible with GC stuff ...

If you want your saves possibly at risk for random deletion.. yes, that's be the best way to go. Otherwise, I (as most everyone else) would suggest getting an official Nintendo memory card, the 256 card should be under $20 and will be more than enough.

I feel ya. I have 14 VC games downloaded each with a save state and possibly game save data and 10 or so actual Wii save games and I'm nowhere near filling up my internal memory.

But until an SD is needed, I wouldn't recommend anyone to get one especially if they don't download nearly as many VC games as I have.

I agree and believe they had the black memory cards (256?) on clearance at Target for $10.

Figures that I stand out yet again as the oddball.

I HIGHLY recommend that Wii owners buy an SD memory card provided that they already have the capabilities to read/write to them on their PC/notebook. Many digital camera owners already have one, but I recommend buying a 2nd one.

It doesn't have to be a 2GB card (though if you find one for cheap, go for it)...

My Wii is integrated into my home entertainment center. I have coordinated sets of jpgs and mp3s into separate "themes"... I have my UltraLounge collection coupled with photos of Las Vegas. I have Christmas music with Christmas/winter images. I have a few more that I'm working on like 60's music with images of woodstock and the 60's.

It's nice to kick back after dinner or when having friends over, to drop a card in the Wii, and play the slideshow w/music.

I know that I'm in the miniscule minority that makes use of the non-gaming aspects of game consoles nearly as much as playing games on them... but I want that minority to grow.

Quoting myself here as I mentioned that possibility before. Slideshows with soundtrack being an extension of picture viewing, but I should have mentioned it as a feature of the SD cards.

For gaming alone, an SD card makes no sense at this point in time.

In other words, the rule of thumb is:

For Gamecube, get the Nintendo memory card.
For SD (Wii), get anything BUT the Nintendo card (if you get anything at all).

Have people really had problems with generic memory cards? I've used them for the PS1/2 and now for Wii (Gamecube). I've never had a problem.

There are enough reported problems throughout history that, when it comes to game saves, most people don't want to take a chance.
