No, no you're not. I'm guessing these are all quick cash-ins. Great third-party titles should be plentiful in 2008, since smart/good developers will have started working on those titles a few months ago.

Hate GTA style games. Though the controls did sound pretty good on it.

Is Xbox vastly out-selling the Wii?

I went into Game Crazy or some such store and they had a massive XBox section, the usual colossal PS2 section. The Wii games were all being the counter and they had a tiny Gamecube section.

I was under the impression that Wiis were selling like crazy and still in shortage. Why do these video game stores not give more space to the Wii? Even Best Buy rarely even has Wii stuff in their ads. Always Xbox and Ps2.

I hate when they do this. I rarely ever open up the locked stuff. Just give me all the levels right away please.

There are more Xbox360 owners than Wii owners, but on a month-to-month basis the Wii is selling better. There are also a lot more games for the Xbox360, so more to sell.

If trends continue, expect the Wii section to grow.

The 360 has also been out a full year longer. Go back to last May and see how big the 360 section was then.

in 3 to 4 months, at the current rate, there will be more Wii owners than 360 owners, but there just isn't much out for it now.

So what explains the total lack of interest from the box stores - Best Buy and Circuit City? The CC by my house almost hides the Nintendo section. From a retail perspective, I'd think you'd want to ride the hot item. Maybe its not so hot for retailers?

I was mainly speaking about their weekly ads. Rarely is a Wii product ever in the ads.

Why promote something that you rarely and/or can't keep in stock?

well, the hot games for the Wii, like their first-party titles won't go on sale at large retailers like BB and CC until they release the greatest hits versions.

The games for the system that get discounted aren't something I'd recommend to anyone in the first place.

Also, I don't think they want to advertise Wii products until the console itself is readily available.

But are these games actually causing the 'good' games from not being released? I think there's enough room for all of these games and I bet you this one will sell at least a million copies.

The more 'party' games the better. Hopefully this one is a good one.

It could be because they are selling so well. Why spend money for an ad for a hot selling item? The only reason we see ads for the Wii itself is because it is out of stock so much, that the retailers are letting people know they are in stock.

Right, and I believe there's actually some "false advertising" implications if they advertise something they don't have in stock that week. So the only weeks you see it in the ads is if they've been hoarding stock for a few weeks to deliver on the promise (like this coming Sunday, check your ads then).

Ooops, just read your response. But I think it makes the most sense.

If something sells out in hours, why even bother spending the ad $ to promote it?

The Xbox 360 ads are not items on sale. They are just ads for games and accessories at full price.

Because it's not like they aren't going to have their weekly ad anyway, and you can guarantee a large increase in foot traffic solely because the Wii is listed as available and in stock. With new Wiis being sold it is further guaranteed that there will be an increase in games and accessories being sold along with them.

You might have a valid point!

What do you consider a gimmick game? I really liked Warioware. I don't own it because it's more of a party game and I really can't have a bunch of people over right now, so I'm more interested in solo or 2P games. Wii Play is fun for a $10 title. If Carnival games is budget-priced I'd most likely pick it up. I like these quick mini-games. So does my wife. I just don't want everything to be a mini-game.

Oh and I've actually noticed an expansion of Gamecube sections since the Wii has become a hot seller. When I was first looking for a Wii, my Best Buy didn't even have a Gamecube section. Now they have a small section selling some of the Greatest Hits titles (Kart, SSB, etc). The EB Games by my work has added a special section for used and new Gamecube games and accessories. That wasn't there a few months ago.

When I signed up years ago I thought you had to use your real name like some of the other forums I was on at the time.

Don't really like having my name out there now, with google pulling up thousands of posts etc.
