Well that timing sucks. Bioshock comes out the same day. Sorry Samus. You lose. Might have ranked above Bioshock if Echoes hadn't put such a bad taste in my mouth.
I guess I will be playing Metroid later than everyone else.

I have a question regarding the sensor bar. Do the third party extension cords you can buy for the sensor bar work very well? I would assume they would work better than the wireless sensor, but does anyone know? Thanks.

I know there were rumblings that Metroid Prime 3 might not even make it out in 2007, so I'm pleasantly surprised by the announcement. I loved MP1, but never finished MP2. I got about halfway through and then got distracted by other games. I'll probably start MP2 over from scratch in anticipation of MP3's release.

I'm not saying they should coordinate their schedule with Microsoft's, but surely they aren't brazen enough to just disregard it altogether? Just a two to three week difference (earlier) would be huge. I would buy both. On the same day? Nope, probably wait until Christmas.

Not to mention the "non-gamers" that bought the Wii for Wiisports aren't going to buy an FPS.
But on the flip side the Wii has had a hellish game drought since launch and gamers will be itching for something to play, so who knows.

For me Echoes failed because of the excessive backtracking. Metroid has always been about backtracking, which is fine. I pass a tiny hole with something blocking it and have to come back later when I have the morph ball bomb. It's a gaming standard. But to add an entire level overtop of that basically doubling the backtracking you are already doing was a killer for me. Not to mention the stop and go and wait to recharge nonsense just felt like a waste of my gaming time. Run 20 yards to a bubble and sit for 5 minutes doing jack shit while your energy recharged is not good design.
Metroid is a hard core game. A hard core game that will be bought by the same people that own a 360 not new casual gamers that the Wii is attracting. Not to mention if the controls are even the tiniest bit off it will be a deal breaker for some. People accept it from a third party like we've seen with Red Steel, but Nintendo is on a pedestal right now and if it isn't perfect it won't fly.
I highly doubt sales of Metroid to Bioshock will be 2:1. I say they will be close, but give the edge to Bioshock. Remember, other than The Darkness in a couple weeks(which is a wild card at this point) Bioshock is looking to be the first big game out of a similar drought on the 360.

I don't get the super love for this game. Just beat it recently, and I liked it, but its in the 8.0 to 8.5 range for me.
Maybe I would have liked it more if I hadn't played Gears of War first, which does the 3rd person shooter/action game thing so much better IMO. I know its no fair to compare them, but that's the problem of waiting years to play a game sometimes, as it will some times pale in comparison to newer games. So I guess you risk missing some of the OMG experience you get if you play them at launch.

Kudos to Nintendo. I think they are doing a fantastic job with the Wii (and DS of course), and they have exceeded my impossible expectations. The Wii console is clicking on all cylinders right now, and with the announcement of Metroid Prime in August, I think its total take in 2007 will be unbelievable.
I always hear people comment on the lack of games on Wii. Admittedly, as it stands now, I only own Zelda and Red Steel. But I plan to pick up The Godfather, Super Paper Mario, Manhunt 2, NiGHTS, Soul Calibur Legends, Metroid Prime 3 and most everything else Nintendo puts out first party this year. I suspect I will give Scarface, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil 4 a look as well.
Still need to pick up a 360 or PS3 for my sporting needs though.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the Tomb Raider announcement. I'm down for that if there truly is no 360 version. However, they would just be leaving money on the table if they didn't release it, so I think a next-gen version is still very likely. They're probably just going to milk it first.

I keep trying to tell myself its early and so on, but I really don't like the Wii. I hate, no make that despise, Wii controls on 90% of the games I have played. Even in some cases where they were good they were still not better than standard controls.
And games. Man, the Wii software lineup sucks. I enjoyed Wii sports for a couple of weeks, but overall the games are a huge letdown. I liked Twilight Princess and thought Super Paper Mario was really good, but neither of these has sold me on the Wii since they were really Cube games.
The VC is a great idea, but the pricing is rape and the extra channels are cool, but the internet and weather channels are not the reason I bought a Wii.
Honestly the thing keeping me going is the DS. That is an amazing game system and in it I see what the Wii can become. I just hope Nintendo starts delivering quality games with good use of the Wii controls soon. I am really worried the Wii will be some novelty system I use to play 1-2 Nintendo exclusives a year.
