ahh man. I can't believe all you people feeding into this rehash/re-release nonsense. Just throwing fuel on the fire.
I've never played it either, but I picked up the GCN version used. I don't want to support that endeavor. Just paves the way for other companies to follow suit. PS2 & PSP ports are one thing, but you add Gamecube ports into the mix and it is just a mess.

I actually don't think ports are a bad thing. Bad ports or ports of bad games are a bad thing, but I have no problem with ports in general.

I'd agree with that. A bad port, or a port that doesn't take advantage of the ported-to hardware, is a waste of a port, but if it's 'game plus', I don't mind so much. Like has been said before, "you don't have to buy it". I'm more annoyed by the shovelware that is most movie/tv tie-in games.
Anyway, never played RE4, so my eye is on RE4/Wii.

I'm not a big fan of the ports/rehashes either. I already played pretty much everything I remotely wanted to play on the GC given that it had such a thin library of games I wanted to play.
I'd rather developers put all their efforts into making new Wii games so it doesn't suffer the same dust gathering fate as my GC. Not off to a good start so far...

Just out of curiousity, Josh, have you said anything positive about the Wii here on dvdtalk? I'm seriously asking because I honestly don't recall anything positive.
Of course I think we'd all like brand new, innovative Wii games from third parties. When did developers get dev kits? I'd rather them spend a little time tweaking/upgrading/porting games, which can provide a little comparison to the gamer, and give them some 'practice' time so they can learn to use their tools, than trying to create a brand new, Wii-specific game and release crap because they don't know what they're doing. (Of course, the best option would be releasing brand new, innovative, creative games that use the control just right, that are priced correctly for the game, and come out at the exact same time I'm looking for a new game to buy.)

Just nothing worth buying at $50 since Zelda, and I can't get enjoyment out of the VC at current prices when I have no qualms about emulating the games on my PC.
I was super hyped, but have been hugely disappointed thus far. Hopefully Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Smash Bros all make it out this year and have me changing my tune!
I have great faith in Nintendo though, as I was similarly disenchanted with the DS during it's first year, and its turned out to be one of my all time favorite gaming platforms. I see the same happening with the Wii when developers get a better handle for it, and we get out of this post launch drought.
I don't mean to bash them though. The PS3 is even worse--shitty game library AND costs $600 and the 360 was just as bad it's first year and still doesn't have enough games to get me to buy one at $400 (not to mention having the highest failure rate of any console I've ever seen).
One thing this and the DS experience have taught me is to never again buy any gaming system at launch!!

There are some interesting 3rd party things coming to the Wii. It's just unfortunate that most won't hit until a year after the Wii's launch (this Fall). I guess that's relatively normal though for any new console.
I think all the consoles currently have their problems:
Wii - Weak lineup. Not a lot of new original content. Some concern over the wii-motes potential (or lack of).
PS3 - Weak lineup. Expensive investment ($600). Losing big exclusives left and right.
360 - The strongest of the 3 right now, but still on the expensive side ($400) and apparently lots of problems with consoles breaking.
I think this November/December will be REALLY interesting after some potentially big titles hit the PS3 and Wii (and 360). MP3 and SMG will definately test the Wii and it's hardware and either prove or disprove that it's uniqueness is innovative and welcome.

VC Update for 5/14:
Nice update, but I can't believe they're revealing through association that Pac-Man is indeed a Ninja.
Pac-Man® (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Move Pac-Man through the maze, avoiding ghosts and eating all the Pac-Dots. Beware, each of the ghosts behave differently. When Pac-Man chomps a Power Pellet, he becomes invincible and is able to eat the blue ghosts. The more ghosts Pac-Man eats in a row, the higher the score. Don't forget to eat the bonus fruit too. Released in 1980, Pac-Man is the most well-known video game on Earth and is also commonly acknowledged as one of the most successful coin-operated games in history. Enjoy this masterpiece of gaming history today.
Ninja Gaiden™ (NES®, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Players take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa, a rising warrior in his family's clan whose main role in the world is to protect the Dark Dragon Blade from falling into the hands of evil. Ryu travels to America to seek vengeance for his father's death. Players fight their way through 14 challenging side-scrolling levels while defeating gangs of street thugs, battling evil ninjas and fighting barbarian bosses by using the deadly Dragon Sword, ninja skills and Ninpo (ninja magic). Players can run, crouch, jump and climb as they make their way through each stage and collect items to gain points, strength and weapons.
Ninja Spirit (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points): Ninja Spirit is a side-scrolling action game that amazed the gaming world with its precision graphics and quality game play. Play as the ninja Moonlight and engage in a fierce battle to avenge his father's death and unlock the secrets of his birth. Select between the original ARCADE MODE and PC-ENGINE MODE, which includes a life gauge. Use four types of weapons: katana, shuriken, bombs and chain and sickles to battle your way through the enemies. Pick up power-up items and switch between weapons to give you the advantage. You'll need to consider the enemy attacks and your weapon's abilities in order to deftly make it through all seven stages. Use your skills and attacks to get through the game's boundless enemies and traps. That's what ninja action is all about.

Ahh, Ninja Gaiden. An experience I never want to repeat, but I have to admit finishing it on the NES was a major achievement. Don't remember the NES port of Pac-Man being that great though.

I've been pretty disappointed with the VC releases lately. I don't think I've seen anything in weeks that really interests me. I'm sure there are plenty of people excited about TG16 games, but it just doesn't really do anything for me. I wish there was a more even distribution of SNES, Genesis, and N64 games. Maybe N64 games take longer to emulate, hence the drought?

Billy Mitchell, the reigning Pac-Man champ was on Major Nelson last week and he said so far the XBLA version of Pac is the closet to the arcade machine... down to the thousandth of a second(or something crazy like that). He also said he hadn't owned any other console since Atari(I think), so take that for what it's worth.
So if you want to get your 'Pac' on, that seems to be the way to go.
Not sure if I want to head back to the frustrating world of the original Ninja Gaiden. My heart says yes, but my brain says run the other way.

I have been waiting for Ninja Gaiden, but if I really want to play it, I could just drag out my NES and my original copy of the game.

Another port announcement, that I'm actually pretty happy about.
Eidos has announced that Tomb Raider: Anniversary is coming to the Wii. I wanted this game, but didn't want to buy the PS2 version because my PS2 is still acting funny (though working much better than it was). Maybe that's why I don't mind ports as much... I'm pretty much counting the Wii as my only console now due to my problems with the PS2. So I'm not going to buy these games on other platforms (except Gamecube) anyway.

As far as Ninja Gaiden, I agree with the difficulty, wasn't too tough to make it to the last stage, but, the last boss was a real PITA. Starting back at the beginning of the set of levels was incredibly annoying and tough. I beat the hell out of Ninja Gaiden II on my first playthrough last boss and all. Funny thing, I was almost disappointed with that one because of it. I remember loving the music to Ninja Gaiden, especially one particular tune that played during a couple of the cut scenes.
