I just picked up a PS3 as a blu-ray player and while downloading trailers from PSN, I decided to download the trailer for Lair because the premise sounded pretty cool. I'll be damned if I don't pick up this game at launch! This game has a serious wow factor attached to it. It will be titles like this that will push the PS3 to the top. Anyone else looking forward to Lair?

I too am looking forward to Lair, but I am also kind of leery about it too. Factor 5 is the developer making it, and I never cared much for their other "flight combat" games: the Rogue Squadron series on N64 and Gamecube.
I know some will probably disagree, but in my opinion the Rogue Squadron games were very bland overall. While they had amazing graphics (the Gamecube ones still hold up very well even today) the gameplay wasn't that great. There were a handful of levels that could be beaten in 5 minutes each. The main gist of the game was to replay the same levels over and over and over again to get a higher score and be awarded a bronze, silver, or gold medal. If you didn't give a rat's ass about getting the best score to get the gold medal, then the game could easily be beaten in half an hour.
I don't think Lair will have the same short levels and score/medal system that the Rogue Squadron series does, but I do wonder if Lair's amazing graphics are just sugarcoating a subpar game underneath akin to Rogue Squadron. Both games are "flight combat" and Rogue Squadron is what Factor 5 is known best for.

Home Beta just became available for me in the store. It says its release date was May 3rd. I don't know if that's a typo or if they're unrolling it to people slowly. It's 225 megs. Downloading now.
Edit: So I just got a chance to play around with it. There were only 16 total people logged on. It's pretty cool but not very practical. Walking around to the different areas is tedious. There's a "home theater" section where you can watch trailers for games/movies. There's also a game room with pool, bowling, and some arcade games. One thing I noticed was that the one video I watched in the theater had the divX logo in the bottom corner when it started up. The resolution was low but it was just some soccor video. I'm not really sure what it was trying to advertise. I think it has promise once more people start using and you're able to customize your own place which I haven't figured out yet.

Wii hardware outsold PS3 hardware 5 to 1 last month in Japan
Pretty funny that this time last year, Sony was all arrogantly saying how the Wii would give the PS3 no competition.
Wii outgunning PS3 5-to-1 in Japan
Jun 4, 2007 @ 10:13am
Summary:
The latest sales figures from Japan indicate that Nintendo hardware outsold competing Sony hardware at a rate of 5-to-1 in the month of May, thus stretching the already widened sales gap between the Wii and PS3.

A recent Bloomberg report reveals that the the sales gap between the PS3 and the Wii widened to its greatest comparative ratio last month. According to sales figures released by Japan's Enterbrain Inc., Nintendo sold 251,794 Wii units in the month of May, leading the Wii to outsell the PS3 at a rate of 5-to-1. The report does not indicate the exact number of PS3 units sold during that same period.
The figures do, however, state that the handheld race between Sony and Nintendo hardware has also resulted in a similar ratio. According to Enterbrain's data, the Nintendo DS sold 620,670 units in May while the PSP sold 123,673 units in the same period, creating another sales gap of more than 5-to-1.
Meanwhile, despite the buzz surrounding the Halo 3 beta and the eagerly-awaited release of Forza Motorsport 2, Microsoft has still been unable to make a dent in the Japanese market, managing to sell only 11,082 Xbox 360 units last month.

As a PS3 owner, not very happy to see this,

If they drop it $100, they lose another 100 per console sold on top of whatever they're losing now, and it still won't get them cheap enough for sales to pick up considerably... wouldn't that just put them at the same price that the 20GB was at? And how much would such a dramatic price drop so soon after launch tick off all the existing PS3 owners?
They really need HD to become more pervasive, and fast... not sure what else they could really do besides get some killer software out ASAP...

What are some of most of these exclusives you speak of?

Off the top of my head...
Final Fantasy Series
Metal Gear (rumored)
Mercenaries
I know there's more; maybe someone can fill in some more blanks.

Devil May Cry 4 was a big one Sony lost. Every previous DMC was always Sony exclusive.
I wouldn't really say Mercenaries 2 was ever exclusive though. The developers just never bothered to say anything about the 360 version at first, but it wasn't really surprising when they finally did announce it. After all, the first Mercenaries was an Xbox game and the developers have never exclusively developed games for one single console before.
