Gears of War GameSpot Video Review!
There's no score given, but the reviewer doesn't say anything bad about the game at all really and ends up saying that if you like action games of any sort at all, then this is the game to own this holiday season.
The only two real "complaints" were:
-Your teammates aren't very helpful.
-The framerate doesn't hold up during cutscenes.

I remember a while back the Too Human guys were rumored to have commented that the UE3 engine didn't work well enough on the xbox360. After Gears of War (which, rumored, "Doesn't seem to tax the system at all. (save for cutscenes, which is weird.") and that Lost Planet demo released earlier this year, I dunno how that ever started.

This game is pulling some serious scores. 1Up gave it a perfect ten. Gamespot and Team Xbox both gave it 9.6. People on Xbox.com are slowly starting to show it in their gamercards and of course everyone is accusing them of lying till it shows up. All of them are saying it's unbelievable how good the game looks and how well it plays.

I can't believe that my launch system crapped out on me last week. I just got the return box from Microsoft yesterday, so I'll be left out in the cold for both COD 3 and GOW. A week or so won't kill me, but it's always fun getting into the multi-player aspect at the same time as everyone else.
My brother hasn't touched his system in months, so I'm thinking I may have to take a ride over to my parents to borrow it till I get my unit back.....yes, I'm that big of a dork.

Scores so far:
X-Play: 5 out of 5
Gamespot.com: 9.6 out of 10.0
Team Xbox: 9.6 out of 10.0
Yahoo Games: 4.5 out of 5
Scoring about on par with Halo. Yahoo Games comments that the game isn't overly long (presumably the same length as all the other shooters on the market), but is amazingly never repetitive for it's full duration, and very much a replayable game.
to the co-op ability of joining the game of anyone playing solo at any time.

Wow. For once, the hype finally lived up to what it was for a game.

One thing I am not liking so far is that there are 3 difficulty settings: Casual, Hardcore, and Insane. According to the reviews, these settings translate to Easy, Hard, and Very Hard. Where the f is NORMAL?? I don't like playing games on hard, and I also don't like it when it is too easy. So, I always play on normal mode. WHERE IS MY NORMAL MODE???

Casual is the default setting or "Normal" as you would put it. Insane isn't unlocked until the game is completed.

Reminds me of the Kid/Adult modes in Viewtiful Joe.
Anywho, Casual is not easy, it's normal, as apparently it gets hard as hell in the last third.

Well, I took this from the second page of the IGN review:
Sounds like Easy, Hard, Very Hard to me. They descibe Casual as a "breeze" and beating Hardcore as a "gaming achievement anyone could be proud of."
On the easiest difficulty level, you can breeze through the game in about seven hours the first time through. Your regenerating health system is generous, to say the least. Enemies are generally stupid, standing out in the open with a common death-wish. And your weapons cause considerable damage.
Not so on Hardcore difficulty. Enemies are aggressive and will attack your weak positions. You will be flanked. You will be pinned down. Some enemies will wear helmets, protecting them from head shots from the sniper rifle. And up close, it will be you who gets chain-sawed. Yes, the Locust are a mean bunch, and beating Gears on hardcore is a gaming achievement anyone could be proud of.
And then there's Insane. Insane is, well, insane. I couldn't get past the first chapter, the training chapter the first ten times through.

Ah well, will have to wait and see
I was going off the Gamespot review:
I was going off the Gamespot review:
The game defaults to the easiest setting, called casual. On this setting, taking cover only becomes important when you're up against heavy odds or later in the game, when the enemies get tougher. The middle setting, hardcore, feels just right at first--you need to take cover, but you can usually pop up and take shots without immediate punishment. But near the tail end of the game, both difficulties ramp up quite a bit. Hardcore starts to get a little unmanageable. Casual gets to be about as hard as the hardcore setting is near the beginning of the game. And once you unlock insane, you'll find that it's aptly named, though not impossible.

Just called EB games and they won't have it till sometime after 2pm. I don't get it my local Walmart already has the game, yet a store who specializes in games has yet to receive the game. I don't normally pre-order, but I had some store credit and thought I would use it.
