I really hope I like this game because if I do I will buy it, but I'll wait to play it (rental or in-store display) before I buy. It looks awesome though.

Not yet in the hype. Looks cool but with other Shooters like FEAR and Rainbow Six on my list, I don't know yet. Also Smackdown comes out the following week, and all my games will be collecting dust after that.

There is a lot of cool Gears of War stuff in the main thread for the game at GAF:

Video of the best GoW clips

Here is some street advertising in San Francisco (other places also maybe):

I like how they've placed the ads near manholes and gutter grates. Cool.

As for me, I've bought into the hype for GOW. However, if a review is released a day or two before launch that completely tears it apart, that would be enough to get me rethinking the purchase. The plan for now is GOW and COD3 on the 8th.

just saw the HD trailer since i bought the 360 a week ago and I must say this game looks ridiculously good. Never have I seen a game with the amount of detail that GOW has.

I was the OP on this thread , and as you re-read my first post, you can see that I was confused about why people were going slapnuts crazy over this game -

I hadnt seen the marketplace AD yet on my HDTV, WOW that does look nice!!! some of the low res video clips on the internet do it a diservice compared to the full res clip on a good HDTV like mine (sony 50" SXRD).

Allright, i give up !! DO YOU HEAR ME, i give! I want the game, and it looks awesome! IM IN !

Way to give in to peer pressure.

But yeah low res clips will make any game look like crap.

I haven't had a problem with the Fry's here in Downer's Grove (chicagoland) getting video games, are you sure you aren't confusing Fry's with FYE?

I figured once I get about 200 hours of PSU in, I might be able to put it off a while to actually warrant buying gears of war

I have the special collectors reserved, but I don't think Id have time to play it

CompUSA is the worst about this and should be taken to court over it. The epitome of bait and switch marketing. I thumb through their weekly flyer, but I can't remember the last time I bought something there.

It would cost me about the $10 savings to drive to my nearest Fry's.

Is that an advertised price in a circular? If so, that's sweet since BB will have to honor it if they have it in stock.

I just looked online for GoW. Looks like it's $52.50 through Outpost. Still a better price than BB has.

I was on a different board where some people were debating whether or not this was a FPS. Is this a true FPS? I have been avoiding all hype, so I have no idea about this game at all.

It's a third person shooter like GRAW.

What board was this? Obiviously not a gaming board.

Not a gaming board. I think that the problem was some people calling it a generic shooter whereas others were calling it a more detailed FPS, so I was confused. Thanks

I think it has much less to do with the game and more to do that on any game system, this is one of more A-list titles. The Wii has Zelda but I can't think of any other "big" games coming out this fall season, ones that would rope in the I-usually-play-Madden crowd, who's not going to pick up FFXII or GH2.

I don't think the hype behind the game was purchased by Microsoft; this was the game at E3 that everybody wanted to be playing. It's supposed to be extremely good.

COD3 is the game I'm going to wait for reviews on. The franchise was handed off to another development team, and the development cycle seems very short. I think this could very easily disappoint.

Has anyone gotten word that they'll get Gears tomorrow? Some people are staring to get calls from EB/Gamestop that they will have it tomorrow.
