Thank god for the people who post here, or else I'd have to look forward to multi-player games with the same bunch of screaming 12 boys whose testiles are still awaiting deployment.

I just picked up my collector copy at Gamestop and it was like Christmas eve in there.

I'm torn about this game. I just haven't found a lot of 'futuristic FPS' games I've enjoyed. It's not like I have a problem with sci-fi themes, it's just that the games tend to bore me. Now, some of these are demos and some the real games, but...

I liked:
COD2
Rainbow Six Vegas
Condemned (not a FPS per se)

I didn't care for:
Prey
Quake 4
FEAR

I'm not into multiplayer, so maybe that's the problem. I just wonder if I would like this game at all. Is a Live (Silver) single-player demo upcoming?

Why the heck to some Gamestops/EBs get them today and some get them tomorrow? Every single store I've called said tomorrow.

I think alot of it depends on where you're located. I'm in Northeastern NJ (30 minutes outside NYC)and it seems that quite a few of the Gamestop/EB stores in my area get all the big releases the day they ship.

When I called my gamestop they said 'yea we have copies--not any collector sets though unless you reserved it' so im guessing they have LOTS in stock.

I bet they expect this one to sell out so they made sure to stock up....

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but for whatever it's worth Gamespot gave it a 9.6.

Over at Dailygame.net they gave it a 9.0 and it's a great review. Also the editor wrote a really good editorial on why he HATES Gears of War. A good read - but sadly a little spoiler filled.

I read that, he makes it a point to say the game really shines, but was hoping for a more Halo-esque cinematic/plot-filled game, because had Epic chosen to gone that route the game would have been absolutely classic.

To me Halo was barely above average plot wise. There are far better games with better plots to cite as having epic storylines.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that alot of the pressing plants for CDs/DVDs are on the East Coast. Just pisses me off when they say the release date is today, but most places won't get it until tomorrow. Just make it one uniform day. Even better, only release new games on a specific day of the week like they do with DVDs and CDs. That would make it fair for everyone.

I'm tempted to run up to the local mall to check but my car has been acting up and the wife isn't home for a few more hours for me to swap out vehicles. I'd call but I broke my cell and the replacement won't be here until tomorrow. First time in ages I have thought about getting a land line here at home.

Where's it at, I'm bored as hell at work at the moment, I'll give them a call if you want.

Called my EBGames and they already had it. I went there and got it, and I agree with the other poster, they are really pushing Halo 3.

Yep, just picked up a copy from EBgames at the Woodbridge Mall. Salesguy said they picked up their shipment from the airport to try and get an early jump on everyone else.

If you are serious the number is 412-372-8822. If they have it I'll owe you huge. If they don't I'll still owe you.

I went by the local Gamestop and they had run out of any non-pre-ordered copies of GoW about an hour after putting it on sale. I don't know why this particular store seems hell-bent on missing out on sales as much as possible (they always run out of titles) but if they weren't literally within a mile and a half of my house I'd never even bother to give them what remaining business they deserve.

Gamestop is still one of the worst retail experiences I have ever dealt with. I've seen more organized inventory and friendlier employees in third world grey market electronics stalls.

Thanks for the heads up man! Is that in Bloomingdale? According to mapquest it will be about a 40 minute drive. Anyway, I may just wait and pick it up on Thursday. Even if I got it today, I would not have time to play it until Friday.

It's all a scam. They intentionally order very few copies of new release games. They make more money off preorder sales than they do selling a game outright. So, they just order enough copies of the game to cover their preorders with a few left over for "walk-ins." They could have ordered a lot more copies, but no, they want you to preorder. By purposefully not ordering enough, they fabricate a "shortage" and then when a customer asks for the game, they reply "You should have preordered. Next time you want a game, preorder it. If you want Halo 3, preorder it." Screw that shit. I will just wait an extra day or two and pick it up at Wal-mart or Best Buy. They will have a ton of copies without having that preorder crap forced on us. The only time I ever step foot in Gamestop is when they have the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Used Game Sale going on.

I would agree if you base it purely on the game stories. However, the verse was well fleshed out with the books, ilovebees radio drama, and the graphic novel. Those things have made it into an excellent storyline imo.

Well heck, Ive heard even the Star Wars Phantom Menace was phenomonal in book form (because Lucas pawned it off of course).
