I can verify COG tags are awarded to both players during co-op. I went from 22 to 25 last night due to a eagle-eyed co-op partner.

And we now have two Gears of War reviews up:
The first is my first video game review.

The second is Mike Flacy's and has some nice screenshots.

Hey Eric, thanks for the great game. Sorry my headphone was messed up. I'm going to try to get another one soon.

I am having a brutal time beating RAAM on Casual. I have been playing all night but can't get RAAM to die. Those damn kryll usually get me, but if not, RAAM hits me once or twice and game over.

Spoiler:
So I know to stay in the lights to keep the kryll from killing me, and to load up the headshots on RAAM when the kryll fly away, but is there anything else? What about the gun mounted on top towards the end where RAAM starts? Is there anything that I can shoot to start a fire to give me more places to go? I just want to finish this damn game!

I hate that there are so many cutscenes after the checkpoints, so you have to go through them again before starting up. I know that you can still get past them fairly easy, but it is still a nuisance.

Grenades scare away the Kryll. It took me awhile to beat him. I got lucky and beat him by blindfiring the shotgun when he got close.

I don't find the grenades that great for the kryll. Maybe my aim sucks. I was planning to finish this game tonight, but I am giving up for now. I actually killed RAAM, but it was at the same time that I died, so I saw a bit of the cut scene showing his death, but not enough before I died.

Hey Kev....RAAM is actually much easier to kill when you play co-op (like the rest of the game). Me and Leon did it with only 3-4 "re-trys". If you want to finish it, just to see the game come to completion I'd just invite myself or Leon to you game. Of course, I'll have to try and tear myself away from COD III .

That was fun man! Look foward to playing with you again be it co-op or some Live matches. And don't worry about the headset I heard you well enough most of the time.

Does anyone have a link to the Gears of War story?

I think if there was one aspect of the game I didn't like very much it's the way some things in the plot go unexplained even after completing the game. Namely, the big mystery surrounding Marcus Fenix's father. Unless, of course, these are explained after beating the game on the 'Insane' difficulty level which I'm getting very close to doing.

Who is Marcus Fenix's father?
I'm assuming the Fenix Estate is his father's home but why would he have a hidden underground lab?
How would he know about the intricate tunnel system of the Locust Horde?

I'm only midway through Act III and the story is so-so. Definitely needs some improvement. From what I've read the booklet in the CE helps a bit, but that shouldn't be necessary reading to enjoy a game.

I hope I'm not misunderstood. I absolutely enjoyed this game. Best I've got for the 360.
The only problem is I didn't understand the story even after completing the game. I think the developers left a few holes in that regard. One shouldn't have to read a book. It should have been explained in-game. I can understand not being able to do a cutscene if it takes too much time and resources, but at least give me some text to read (again, this MUST be in-game) so that I understand what's going on. George Lucas does it at the beginning of his movies.

I don't know, you're being thrown in a universe and would'nt feel as realistic if it was presented in 'story mode'. That's part of what makes it epic, the ability to put you in the middle of the unknown madness.

It just doesn't seem like that kind of game to me, really. I think games like PREY are like that, and demonstrate how it can be done effectively. I guess one is more action based, while the other is story driven

Well, I beat it last night on hardcore with a friend. Best co-op mode ever. Every shooter should be required to have a co-op mode this good. The only knock I have about that game is that, even in co-op, the squad AI for Baird and Cole is horrible. Hardcore was the perfect difficulty level for us, challenging but not overly frustrating. One other small nitpick is that the boss battles, once you know the secret to killing them, are the easiest in the game. One of my 5 favorite games ever, and I have been gaming since the Atari days.

Did you get it yet? If not:

Spoiler:
In the last car before you go to RAAM, there will be a torquebow. You need to get that, and keep your COG gun (with the chainsaw). When you fight, stay in the light so the Kryll don't get you. Use the torquebow on RAAM to get the Kryll to fly away from him. Once that is done, pour bullets into his head with the Lancer. Repeat until done .

It doesn't answer all of your questions (I think we will have to wait for Gears 2 for that), but this might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gears_of_war#Story

Maybe, if you were soldier 513 on a battlefield but you are playing a distinct character in a specific story. The only way to know about the character is for the developer to tell us in the game.

Anyone else getting occasional dirty disc errors on GOW?

It's a new 360, and a new disc that has never left the drive and is not "dirty".

It has only happened twice, and a restart fixes it.

Is my 360 about to die?
