I just beat act 2 and yes I'm bored with it. Sure the graphics kick ass but the gameplay needed to be more than hiding behind stuff and shooting at things and then repeat.

nope not at all. I realize in many ways it's a relatively "simple" game in terms of what you have to do as far as not having those "Resident Evil-ish" puzzles that can drive one mad. But still, the overall atmosphere and gameplay have kept me going and i look forward to replaying it after I finish it the first time.

I think many here tend to sit and play for hours and I think they rush through games.

I'm not getting the red lights or anything, and this is the only game I have had the freezing issue with, but I have rarely been playing anything but Halo 2
having freeze issues on mine too. I'm on my second 360 (first one died of the red light of death) and GOW seems to freeze at least once every 1-2 hours (just freezes no disc read errors, etc). No other games seem to cause it. Really annoying.

Not entirely sure, but wasn't there some kind of issue when playing Halo 2 on the 360 that was discussed a while back? I know the software to emulate the game comes standard on every 360 harddrive, but there was something along the lines of this game causing a corruption to some files once you started playing it. Then again, I could be mistaking Halo 2 for a different game...perhaps it was the update to Perfect Dark Zero or Kameo. I forget.

I'm having issues with GOW freezing not Halo 2.

I freely admit I rush through a game the first time, especially a shooter. The best part is playing it through again on higher difficulty levels. I can't wait to play GOW on the Insane difficulty.

I am the same exact way. It helps me decide if a game is truly A+ (if I want to go through it again). Can't wait to go through GOW again as I think it will be as much fun as COD 2 was. Unfortunately, I really have no interest in going through COD 3 again, though not to say the multiplayer isn't fantastic though.

Sorry, I didn't mean to quote only you but your entire post where you quote member "Applejack" who has been playing Halo 2.

Nothing wrong with that style of playing, in my opinion. Everyone has there own perception of how a game should best be played. My brother plays most of his games the same way. I don't even think he's heard of the term side quests.

Gears Cranks Out a Million

...Gears has now sold more than one million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling Xbox 360 title of 2006. Gamers bought Gears and many of them took it online. More than 850,000 gamers joined in 10 million gameplay seassions, putting Gears atop the Xbox Live play charts. Gears of War has also helped to grow Xbox Live Gold per-day memberships by 50 percent over the past two weeks.

"From the very beginning, we knew 'Gears of War' would be an industry-defining hit," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president at Microsoft Game Studios. "As we watched both the game and its hype grow, it became obvious that Gears of War was the rare title that could live up to such incredible anticipation, and judging from the reaction of critics and fans, it's done just that."

got ya.
to add to the mystery further, I actually got a dirty disc error tonight. I was almost at the end of the game and had just gotten to a checkpoint i wiped the disc off and put it back in and killed the last guy with the help of a guy from Live. Overall, I'm not sure I'll be hanging on to this one. Good game, but just not exactly my type (and i generally love shooters).

Well, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this style of play or that anyone should stop playing that way.

Wow, just rented GOW and it really is the shit. Is it just me, or did the graphics seem to get better as the game went along? I wasn't that impressed when I was breaking out of prison, but as the game went along it started to get better and better. I also think the game started off pretty slow. I'm loving it.

Shouldn't that be best selling on the console period? COD2 is the only other million seller, to my recollection, and that took almost a year to achieve.

Did Oblivion hit 1 million? If not it's got to be close. I love GOW but I think Halo 2 is still the better game.

Yeah, the graphics continually improve as the game progresses.

I also had the "Eh" feeling about the visuals at first, but about halfway through level 1, I was blown away. IMO, GoW has a better single player campaign, Halo 2 has superior multiplayer.

Can you only play with 2 people online coop? Is the only way to have a team of 4 a VS game?

Yes, only 2 player co op, but it makes sense through the story line. I can't wait to do insane level co op with one of you dvdtalkers.

I just picked up my Xbox Live GK via Buy.com for $45.

Hopefully, I'll be on-line by next week.

Speaking about graphics, does anyone recall having any slow-down while playing?
Even in the most intense battles (Single player campaign) I can't recall experiencing a drop in frame rates. But this may be because I'm caught up in the gameplay and not noticing anything.

Man do I stink. I've spent hours trying to kill Raam on casual and still haven't lol. I've tried all the methods posted on the net too. Time to take a break I guess. I'm dreading Raam on hardcore and insane. I'll only do him with co op on those levels.

I haven't tried on-line play yet as I'm just getting my feet wet - literally - now starting the outdoor part with it raining. I keep seeing everyone saying co-op is a blast and did I read it right you can play it online? I might be tempted if someone is willing to give it a go to see how my DSL will hold up?
