Just finished Campaign 2 last night. I briefly started on Campaign 3, but failed to get past the
Spoiler:
Luminent creatures, the large group in the opening.

Any tips?

BTW, anyone that's going for the Tags achievement; GameFaqs has a guide to find those as of yesterday.

Just started this one last night on Hardcore. Really hard so far. It hasn't blown me away yet like I was hoping but it's a lot of fun. I do think the controls need some work. Countless times when I want to cover up against a wall while being shot at my character ends up doing that stupid dive roll over and over.

After playing the R6: Vegas demo I keep thinking how much better this would be if you could direct the other guys fighting with you like you can in that game to work as a squad. It adds to the tacticalness of it (that may not be a real word but it works).

I do think the multiplayer is a blast. I got in a bunch of games of execution which was great. Nothing like curb stomping people from around the country.

i haven't had a single problem with the A button controls. Maybe you are still getting used to it.

This game seems to be ALL about suppresive fire

I started on casual but the aliens are just too damned stupid so I've started over in hardcore. I'm probably going to regret that though.

I walked into a room and thought my squadmate was crouched behind a couch. I walked past him. He was crouched down but I assumed he was taking cover waiting on me to get ready to go down the next hall. Then I realized it was a bad guy. He sat there doing nothing while I walked within 2 feet of him. At that point, I realized that I wasn't going to get the intended experience from this game playing on casual.

Yeah, I can tell you for sure that you will not have that problem on hardcore. They get really smart on you.

The A button is not only context sensitive to your surroundings, but also to the direction in which you're pushing the left analog stick. Make sure you're pushing the stick towards the item or area you wish to take cover behind. That way, if you happen to roll, you'll end up right where you want to be and you can hit A again to take cover immediately.

Anyone else making extensive use of the roadie run? I can't get enough of it because once you reach your target, you immediately take cover without having to rehit the A button.

I started out on hardcore and hated it - i couldn't even make it out of the prison. I've dropped it down to casual and am enjoying the single player game now. I still, sadly enough, die sometimes but it isn't as frustrating as i thought the game was going to be. I'm horrible at 3rd person shooters i guess.

I started on harcore, and am loving every second of it. Extremely challenging, but no where near frustrating. The key is patience and smart use of cover. The times I do die, it's usually because I came out of cover too soon, or got a little over eager in trying to kill someone. The enemy AI is fantastic and really keeps you on your toes.

I cant say enough about how much damn fun this game is. It just keeps getting better. What impresses me most is just the overall intensity of what is going on all at once. There have been some truly epic battles. Cant wait to beat the game so can go through it all again.

Man I must have been tired last night. I didn't realize those
Spoiler:
Luminent creatures explode once you kill one. I kept wondering why I died after every kill.

Anyway, I'm working my way to the carts at this point. Those creepy crawlers are seriously freaking me out!

this game reminds me of killswitch, what with the cover fire and all. Its obviously better, but I love the elements they stole from that game

I have to say the worst part of this game so far has been
Spoiler:
The driving part with the UV gun. I kept gunning it and hoping for the best but I didn't finish it until I took my time and stopped as soon as the old man would yell.

That part was odd for me. I did it the proper way and still died mid-level. Strangely, the game skipped ahead to the next portion after I got taken out.

By the way,

I have to just add. . .

that I LOVE the chainsaw attack. The first chainsaw kill i got, i didnt even know what i did but the camera moved to the side and he slowely drove the chainsaw bayonet into a locusts chest and blood goes everywhere, all over the camera lens! I was like, "wow!!! that was just about worth the 59 bucks right there!

I love this game. It lives up to the hype and it's a lot of fun.

My gamertag is Wick98, so feel free to send me a friend request, if you want to play it online sometime.

Just played a couple of games online (although it took 5 or 6 attempts to actually connect to someone), and I have to say that hiding and then chainsawing someone is ridiculously satisfying.

I tired hardcore for a bit but I had to go back to casual.

I don't have the patience to keep doing the same section over and over and over. Kudos to you guys who can handle hardcore. I'm having fun with casual though.

the only bad thing about the chainsaw is the way they did the controls, it makes it a bit awkward.

can you remap your controller to make the chainsaw use a different button combo ?

Oh hell yeah. Nailin' a guy then having him at your mercy while you rev up the chainsaw and take him apart in a spray of blood is a real trip online. It's second only to headstomping and guy and having your character go, "Shit!".

I totally agree. I saw a guy kicking ass online this way while I was spectating the match.

He said he joined the match and ended up on their team and they were all screaming at him to leave or join the other team because they were waiting on another friend. The lengths people go to-to boost their level. Geez.
With the way it's set up, it's really not cheating or boosting, and has nothing to do with having your friends have a similar ranking. All you have to do is host a match, and tell your friends to come join.

Rarely does a game live up to the hype and this one has. I played for 5 hours straight the day I got it and rarely do I even play for more than hour on any game now a days.
bb = blue beret, what kharitonov always wears before he fights. Kharitonov is pissing me off though. He has so much talent but he's too proud of his boxing and it will be his downfall.

Anyways back to Gears....

For xbox live:

How do you chainsaw someone on line? I'm behind, I press X, and I just hear the chainsaw and I don't chainsaw his ass. He then sees me and we start shooting each other, am I missing something here?

Also, I hide against a wall, peek and then shoot, the other guy doesn't hide and still kills me, is there a vulnerable target? What about shooting, is it more accurate if you're crouching?

gracias.

I think it's holding down the red button and going after them isn't it? I can't remember....

It seems if any part of you is exposed you can be injured. So perhaps you were low on life when you got hit?
