I was thinking about exchanging it but it is just thin cardboard so it will probably get crushed eventually.

Anyone else disappointed they didn't do a preorder bonus with Zelda TP?

I'm disappointed I had to pay 5 bucks extra (10.99 total for shipping and handling) for a "special handling fee" for the Castlevania promo from Gamestop, and then they send it in an envelope that is easily crushed. Ugh.

I kinda like the version I have now since it has some grounding in reality. Then again, this is Castlevania we're talking about.

I got mine from Gamestop too, and the outer box for the bonus was a little creased on the sides. Nothing too bad, fortunately. On CAG, it sounded like a lot of people had theirs arrive in worse condition than that. Gamestop was either trying to save a few pennies on packaging, or they're just idiots.

My box was crushed for castlevania as well. Sucks, could have put it in a shipping box instead of bag. I wonder if the more expensive shipping methods used boxes.

Got mine today. Slightly out of shape on one side, but I was able to just push it back in shape.

I'll have to look around on CAG and see if anyone makes a decent CD cover/tray art for a standard jewel case though.

All in all, looks very good for a freebie.

Unrelated to that, I received in the mail a free Lithograph from POTC:TDMC from the Best Buy Reward Zone program. It was in a flat envelope and was not marked 'do not bend,' needless to say, it was bent almost in half to fit in my mailbox. Completely worthless now. If I had paid for it I would be livid, but, since it was a freebie, chalk me up as disappointed.

One side of my Castlevania preorder box was slightly crushed, but the contents of the box are flawless.

I just finished a marathon play session of CV and I do believe that this game is better than the previous DS outing, Dawn Of Sorrow. My biggest complaing it that I'm very close to the end of the game and I've only played about 6 hours total. I believe that there is a bit of replayability, though, so you can further explore the castle and find hidden or previously unavailable areas.

So is Portrait of Ruin basically Circle of the Moon Part 16? I love these games but during Dawn of Sorrow I started getting a major Mega Man 6 and 8 and 12 Alpha Theta Extreme Edition feeling.

well, if you wanted to make a comparison joke, and have it accurate, circle of the moon would probably be the worse choice you could have made, considering circle of the moon wasn't like any of the other ones, and had a completely different engine

I'm at that point to, but I'll keep coming back if they keep the quality as high as it has been.

Haven't played PoR yet as it's an X-mas gift. Not that I have time anyway with finals, Zelda, Yoshi's Island 2 and the stack of PC games a friend just lent me.

Meh, they all follow the Metroidvania game format that's been used since Symphony of the Night.

CotM just looked crappy and was much harder than the subsequent GBA and DS games, the level design etc. was more or less the same.

It's the best yet, for sure.

Hell, i buy it, beat the piss out of it, let it collect dust for 6 months, then sell it for 20 above retail

yea, the level design hasn't been much different since castlevania 1 for nintendo, compared to castlevania 2...

circle of the moon was so choppy and terrible. I think if you've beaten the real original without cheating, none of these games would be much of a challenge for you, but it doesnt make it any LESS fun

Yup, it's been THE EXACT SAME GAME since Symphony of the Night.. which wasn't really a bad thing, until the twelfth iteration of it with Madden-style yearly updates. EA Games Presents: Castlevania 2007.

As per the Castlevania extras - I'm kinda pissed that they added an extra $5 for shipping, even though it was no bigger than a game, and was light as a feather - I ship a lot of things here at my work, and I can tell you that added nothing to their shipping-charge. They pretty much made an extra $5 for each "free" extra.

It's totally shady on their part. When they had it for $39.99 there was no five dollar charge.

When it dropped to $34.99 (probably at the request of the publisher) the $5 extra shipping charge suddenly appeared for new orders.

Just a sleazy way for them to get their extra money.

I enjoy the heck out of every castlevania game. I still need to beat Dawn of Sorrow before I'll start Portrait of Ruin.

Well, we're halfway there already, and Konami seems pretty content on doing yearly installments.

I won't argue with that, but considering this style of game is pretty much dead on consoles, I'm happy that Konami is keeping it alive on the GBA and DS. They have tweaked it enough to hold my interest every time out and I will keep buying this style of Castlevania as long as Konami wants to keep making them. The Super Metroid style game is a brilliant formula and it has worked very well on everything from Castlevania to the most recent Mega Man DS game.

I feel guilty about Castlevania because I hate that it's so ambitionless, but I can't stop buying and enjoying them. I'm part of the problem.

But I just cannot get passed that Jamoraqui-sounding song with the Ninja trying to get back the car plans. Completely impossible to me. So I went to the easiest level to see the other songs and I blew through that until the last song. That's still very hard even on easy. Sometimes I found it helped to turn off the sound and just focus on the eye-hand coordination aspect.

I don't know when I'll realize I suck at rhythm games and stop buying them.

I've been playing EBA for the last several days (snippets here and there). It's highly addicting. I just finished all the songs on the easiest mode. The last song took me about 5-6 tries, and I was so intense and squeezing the stylus so hard that I must have almost broke it. Now i'm going back and starting over on the next harder setting. Great game.
