This game is definitely not CotM hard, but it is harder than the previous ones. You really have to work hard on those boss strategies and stock up on potions. There was one that could charm you and you end up fighting your partner and the boss. That one took me a bit to figure out.
I've cleared the first two paintings and have leveled up to 25 so far. The combo fighting is the highlight of the game and makes up for the similarity to the other metroidvanias.

As for the DS, she loved the compact design and the bright screen. She also loved that she can finally knows what her students are talking about when they mention the DS in school.
Now, does anyone have any thoughts on other games that might be appropriate? (aside from more brain games like Big Brain Academy or that seperate sudoku game) What kind of game is easy to pick up, understand, and directed more at a female market? Perhaps Nintendogs or Animal Crossing? Maybe a good mystery game (if there is such a thing)?
Thanks for any help. I've never really been into handhelds, hence my serious lack of knowledge on the subject.

Big Brain Academy is very different from Brain Age, so don't worry about having two brain games. Also all these games support 'single card download play' so if there are ever any other DS systems around your mom's, they can all play these games in multiplayer mode!

Nice! I also got my mom hooked on Brain Age too, she doesn't play games either but likes doing Sudoku and the other tests.
I don't have it but from the demo Magnetica seemed super simple and fun.

I'm loving the game though, there's something about Castlevania games, even though they're familiar they're just... entertaining as hell to play.My buddy is buying a DS for his mom w/ Brain Age. She actually requested, which I thought was amusing. Another buddy was going to get one for his bro but decided to keep it for himself.

I have a few extra Castlevania special 20th anniversary bonus dealies for sale. After getting shafted by an ebay buyer, I basically said "screw it"
anyway, I'm looking for 20 + shipping (about 24) for each of them. I have 2 extra ones I want to get rid of.

Just the bonus. Id probably have to charge retail for the game on top of that.
I actually thought about giving one of the games to my brother for christmas. I would give him one of those special bonus packs, but he already showed his disinterest in the soundtrack CD. He doesn't own a DS lite, so the special stylus would be a waste, + he doesnt even have a case for the DS, so having a case for 2 DS games seems pretty frivilous
I probably will put this in the exchange forum at some point, but I wanted to offer it here first

I bought EBA about a week ago, and damn this game can be hard. I finally managed to work my way up to the final song on Level 3, and I don't know when I'll be able to beat it. By the way, when do these girls from the manual show up. I beat it on the 2nd star level (never really even attempted the 1st star) and they haven't showed up for me. Is it a multiplayer thing or something?

Well they do appear in the book so I wonder if there is a fourth star level that I have to unlock. I can't imagine how hard that would be.
#313
So there actually is a fourth difficulty level?
#314
I found after playing the second difficulty level that the first one was absurdly easy. Not enough going on at once to get me engaged. However even though I do well I don't get many A's because I can't seem to get perfect timing. I don't know why, but it probably has to do with the fact that I have no rhythm.

If anyone in San Antonio is interested, I was at the Target on DeZavala yesterday and they had a special deal on FFIII for DS: $27.32. They had a sign up saying this was a special replacement deal because they were out of stock on one of the $24 games. I was at the Target at the Rim and didn't see it at that price though, so, I think it's specifically at the DeZavala Target.

My DS Lite broke today
I'm sad.
Physically broke, rather. It's still useable, just oddly (The latch/piece of plastic above the R button that connects the top screen to the bottom screen broke off completely. So the top screen is completely loose, have to prop it on something or on my other hand to keep it up.) all while peacefully playing Portrait of Ruin.
Hope Nintendo will replace it.

So I finally got my Castlevania today. I got worried about it because I had ordered it back in october and didn't hear anything about it. Gamestop didn't even bother telling me it had shipped. I really like the bonus but am dissapointed in the box. It was actually a little crushed because it was just sent in a padded envelope. I was thinking about exchanging it but it is just thin cardboard so it will probably get crushed eventually.
Anyone else disappointed they didn't do a preorder bonus with Zelda TP?

My copy of Castlevania arrived yesterday. So far I've only played through the first portrait, but I'm enjoying it a lot so far. Goofy dialogue, but the dual player mechanic works well. I particularly like the way that the double jump is implemented this time around. The missions given to you by Wind seem promising too. And of course the pre-order bonus is fantastic. I'm listening to the soundtrack right now and it's very cool.
