OK, how long after release will stores start getting more units in? Because I'm not going to waste half of a day waiting in line. If I get one, I get one, but I can wait a few weeks if it means keeping my sanity.
And how are smaller towns typically, for crowds for these releases? I live in a town of 10,000, with a Walmart and Shopko (who I'm assuming will have them). If they get a # of units equal or close to the # stores in bigger cities are getting, I'll probably try my luck in the smaller town. Otherwise I'll make the trek to a bigger city.
What stores are typically best for getting a unit on release day?

Reports have said that Nintendo will be sending shipments weekly starting on Nov 26, and that they should be fairly large shipments.
No one should have problems finding these before the end of the year, with reports suggesting 2-4 million at least in North American by the end of December.

I missed the small town question.
Those tend to work out well for buying things as there tend to be less younger people, and people tend to have less expendable income.
I grew up in WV and never had problems finding stuff. Even recently I was home for Thanksgiving when the DS first came out. People on here were having problems finding it, I walked into the Walmart 3 or 4 days after launch and bought 1.
Similarly, I was in Morgantown for the Gamecube launch and went to Wal-mart and waited in line for the midnight sale, I don't think they even sold out at that time.

dumb question ... do you think games like wii sports and warioware can be played sitting down? I'd like to hook a wii up to my projector, but it's a small room, and if I stand up, my head will block some of the projector.

some might be a bit hard to play sitting down, like bowling where it would be hard to do the motion sitting down. Tennis and boxing should be fine. Golf could be harder if you have to emulate a golf swing since it is a downward then upward motion.

Yeah, but things like Zelda and Metroid really should be played sitting down. No way you're going to want to stand for that long at a time. I think the only thing that really affects it will be the placement of the sensor bar in relation to you and the screen.

Going by the fact that one of the local EBGames told me it took several hours to sell through their Wii preorders and how easy it was for me to pickup a NDSL on release day at Wal-Mart I figure it should not be too hard to pick a unit up for myself. If not, well guess I will wait as it really was not on my radar until recently anyway.

Here is a video of the Wii version of Metal Slug.
http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/7101
The best part about this video is it shows 5 different control schemes using the wii remote and nunchuk. This is exactly what I was hoping for with traditional games, several options including the orginal controls. I hope Nintendo is going to do the same. How cool would it be to play Mario 64 on the wii, with new controls with the option to go back to the orginal method anytime.

Interesting take, but I really do see the same "gamer-centric" opinion people had prior to the DS success. I feel it misses the bigger point, but does manage to approach most "hardcore" perspectives.

My local Target finally put out their Wii endcap with all the accessories.
Snagged the pack of gloves with the green Zelda one in it and the cool looking gift card.
The Wii carrying case looked tiny. Can't wait to see how small the system really is.
The dog tags looked cool, but $25? Get real Nintendo.
