Official Wii Pre-Order Thread!

I swung by the local gamestop since I had to pick up somethign at the target right next to it.
The manager (maybe asst. manager--not sure) said he had no specifics yet, but that as he understood it Wii preorders should start in the next 10 days. He then asked if I had preordered Zelda--which I had--and then asked for my info and typed a note in the system to give me a call when they start taking preorders.
So essentially, no new info.

If this is only half true, there'll be no need to pre-order. Bring it on!
Briefing.com reports (subscription only) that, according to UBS, 2 million Wii consoles were completed in Q3 (July-September) to support Nintendo's upcoming Q406 global console launch, beginning November 19th in North America. In addition, "at least 7 mln and potentially as high as 9 mln more units are in the build plan for 4Q06." The report continues, "this production ramp handily exeeds [sic] a publicly announced tgt for 6 mln units to ship by yearend"; however, Nintendo had previously announced plans to ship 6 million units by the end of their fiscal year (ending March 31, 2007) and only 4 million by the end of the calendar year. The language appears to indicate the possibility of building, if not shipping, as many as 11 million Wii consoles by the end of the calendar year!
With production exceeding expectations, why release the console so much later than many anticipated, and right on top of the PlayStation 3's November 17th launch? It all comes down to software. While Nintendo may have warehouses full of Wiis, they need a launch lineup and reliable system software to go along with all that stockpiled hardware. But Zelda has to be done ... we would have been happy with just that, promise.

I just want to preorder because I have $160 or so in store credit that I want to put toward it, and a preorder will be necessary to get one from the gamestores on launch day.

Already preordered Zelda, don't need component cables (do need s-video though) and don't plan on buyig a second controller as I play multiplayer at my place like twice a year so not worth the $60.
Was thinking of just using it for DS games, but with Castlevania and Zelda apparently delayed until next year, there isn't much I really want this fall.
Probably just pick up Yoshi's Island 2, and Zelda Wii and that will be it this year--Okami and FFXII will wait until I'm through my second and final PH D comp and have time for long games.

Plus, even though I think it will be easy to find, if I don't preorder I'll still feel compelled to get up early on that Sunday and hit target before they open at 8 am, and then CC at 10 if I fail there, and I'd still rather preorder and be able to sleep in and stroll in and pick it up later when gamestop opens (mall location).

Well I just went to my local Game Stop and asked them about pre-ordering. They said they weren't pre-ordering yet, but to try back during the month. I also asked if I pre-order the system if I am guaranteed it on launch day, he said yes, that they hold it from 24-48 hours, and I could come in any time that day and get it with no problem. He also said they knew how many systems they were getting, so to keep trying back.
I pre-ordered two games and he said that I am guaranteed them on launch day as well. He said they had the accessories in the system but they weren't doing any pre-orders on them yet either.
They had a giant sign advertising the system and the PS3 as well.

So I don't know

They might do it differently this time given the 360 fiasco and that they are still not taking preorders 5 weeks before launch.
They may well be waiting until they have a reasonably firm number on how many they will get on launch day before they take preorders.

Blargh.. I wonder if it'll be worth it to take a couple hours off work to jump in on that once it comes.
I don't HAVE to have one day one.. but it'd be kind of cool. I guess there's that Zelda game.

The page it leads to has been up for over a month.
With the PS3 yesterday they changed the teaser page with a link added to click for info about in store preorders--and it gave the details that it was today, one day only etc.
So that's what to keep an eye on for the Wii as well. Plus people that filled out the PS3 e-mail request said they got an e-mail from GS with the info as well, so we should get them for the Wii too.
Just a matter of waiting patiently!

Retailer GameStop confirmed to The Wiire today that Wii pre-orders for North America will begin Friday, October 13.
While Wii games have been available for pre-order for a few weeks now, Friday will mark the first time GameStop has opened up pre-orders on the hardware. In order to make a pre-order, gamers will need to go to a local GameStop or EB Games and ask to put down a set amount of money (between $25 and $50) on a Wii. The money placed on a pre-order goes towards the final price of the product.
North America is expected to receive approximately two million Wii units by the end of 2006, with half of that shipment expected at launch, though recent reports of expectation-exceeding Wii production may cause those numbers to change.
The Wiire could not confirm the pre-order status of GameStop/EB stores in territories outside North America, nor of other retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart and Toys 'R Us.
GameStop, which recently merged with EB Games, is a specialty video game retailer, but also sells accessories, movies, action figures and playing cards.
Stay with The Wiire for all the latest.
