Tomorrow it is!
My Gamestop opens at 10AM. I'll be leaving work around that time for my "doctor's appointment" tomorrow.

I may just pay for the whole thing up front.
Does anyone have any 'pre-order' experience? Is it best to pay it all? Just deposit?

Doesn't matter whether you pay all or just deposit, your spot in line is your spot in line.
I'll probably show up at mine at 9 or 9:30 and wait a bit just to be safe...it opens at ten but mall doors open well before that as the target in the mall opens at 8 and many stores at 9.

They no the hardcore fans will snap them up right away. So it might be better to send more to game stores, get those people take care of, and then have more in the big box stores for x-mas season.

BUT...there's always the chance they don't end up getting that many so people with higher preorder numbers could end up not getting one.
I'd worry about it for the PS3, but not for the Wii, if anything with production being ahead of schedule they'll probalby end up getting more than they were promised rather than less.
But if you want to feel secure, just show up an hour or so before opening and wait so you get one of the first preorders spots.
Also, the e-mail announcement is now on their website...not that anyone cares.

My local "EB Games" was very adamant that the deposit/pre-order just guaranteed you a Wii BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Hmmm... doesn't sound as appealing now

I still think they are just covering their asses after the 360 debacle. They are limiting preorders to how many they are supposed to get, so everyone that preorders should get one on the 19th, with the worst case being the last few people on the list having to wait a week or two for another shipment.
I say just preorder it, and if you don't get one you can look elsewhere on the 19th and get your money back from EB/GS when you cancel if you find one (should be easy at the big box stores).

I stopped at FYE at lunch, my Wii pre-order I made in July is still the only one they have, so assuming they get at least 1 unit - I'm good. In surprising news, I'm #2 overall on their PS3 list, so I hope they get at least two PS3's.

With a million gamers picking up PS3s and people on the 360 side just deciding to go with GoW or a choice of a half dozen other decent titles coming out this fall instead of dropping money on a new system, Nintendo will certainly want to hit their target demo out of the gates. Especially if there will be enough for everyone, gamers & non-gamers alike.

I just called two gamestops and neither had a limit on the number of pre-orders they were taking. For what it's worth, neither person I spoke to sounded like they knew what they were talking about.

I'm going to call mine later. If they're getting 30+ I'll show up probably 9:30, if their in the 12-16 range probably show up 8 or 8:30.

This is probably common knowledge, but are the prices of trade-ins standard store-wide with EB/Gamestop? I know someone who's selling a Gamecube and Playstation 2, both with component cables, for $110 and I was trying to figure out if it would be worth buying with the intention of keeping the PS2, ebaying the cables and trading in the Cube.

Oh well. Guess I'll just split the difference above and show up around 9. Have a ton of reading to do for school, so can just sit and read for an hour or so.

Yeah, I had to make some BS excuse to leave work for an hour to preorder a console I still haven't convinced myself I want. I'm 34 so I figured the "can I have an hour off to preorder a Wii" question was going to get me laughed out of the office.
Anyway I'm going to get there 30 minutes early, play some DS while waiting and head back to work after ordering.

Seems like some stores may be telling people 10-15 units just to try to keep the morning lines down. This was posted by a manager on 1up (same dude I mentioned earlier in the thread that has been reliable thus far on PS3 and Wii preorder info).
Pretty lame imo as a lot of people will hear that and line up all night when they have enough that they could have shown up just before opening and been fine.
We are supposed to say we are only getting between 10-15 units so that there aren't too many people that show up. Because we will have a lot of people lined up no matter what, but this will help solve the problem.
