I'm thinking that our Amazon orders are going to get cancelled. Amazon added this blurb to the Wii listing.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...511949?ie=UTF8
"It's the news you've all been waiting for! Nintendo's long-awaited new console, the Wii, is now confirmed to ship November 19 of this year for $250, but now the big question is "So when can I pre-order it?" We haven't started taking pre-orders yet, but click here to receive an email alert as soon as we do. In the meantime, keep checking back here for more information on the Wii console, games, accessories, and more!"

Hi! My name is Jon, and I'm an editor working on the Amazon.com Video Games team. We know that everyone is excited to get their Wii pre-ordered... heck, we're anxious, too. Unfortunately, we don't yet have our launch allocation numbers from Nintendo, so we don't have any hard and fast data for you.
For a brief period on Friday, we did offer pre-orders for the Wii, however, the rate at which pre-orders came in dramatically outpaced what we had anticipated, so we suspended pre-orders until we are able to get a firmer commitment from Nintendo regarding how many units we'll have for sale.
Because the pre-order window was so brief, the e-mail many of you signed up for notifying you that pre-orders were available was never triggered to send out. We apologize and have fixed the system to ensure pre-order e-mail notifications are sent in advance.
In the meantime, there are several ways you can stay up to date on the latest Wii information:
Visit our Nintendo Wii page and sign up for e-mail updates
Visit our Video Games store: http://www.amazon.com/games
Visit our Video Games blog: http://www.amazon.com/vg-blog
We apologize for any confusion regarding the status of Wii pre-orders, but hope this clears some things up. If you have any questions or issues, Amazon.com Customer Service is always ready to assist you, and I'll do my best to answer questions in this forum. Thanks!

Pedro & Vypr & D., I can confirm that we will be honoring the pre-orders already taken. - Jon
Daniel, I'm not sure I understand your first question. If you're asking if your Wii will arrive on the day of release, the simplest answer is that the 19th of November is a Sunday, and UPS doesn't deliver on Sunday. As to the exact date of delivery, we can't provide any specific information at this point because it has to do with how we receive the Wii shipments from Nintendo, which is something that's not yet completely worked out. However, we'll be working to make sure that the delivery date listed both here and on the order in your account gets updated accurately as soon as we are able to. Amazon customers get an email automatically anytime there's a change in the status of their shipment, so watch for that.
As far as how we'll be taking orders once the initial allotment is gone, nothing has been officially decided yet. I can tell you, though, that when the Xbox 360 launched we opted to put up the incremental batches we received for sale only as we received them, to reduce any customer confusion. Hope that helps. - Jon

You do not have to worry about your system being cancelled. They are limiting preorders to one system until they find out exactly how many sytems they will be receiving. Your order stands as is....
"Greetings from Amazon.com.
Due to the high demand of the Nintendo Wii and the potentially limited
supply expected throughout the holidays, at this time, we are limiting
all orders of this item to one per customer."

Stopped in gamestop on my way home from work and preordered Zelda. The guys working had no idea when they would start taking preorders for the Wii or any details about the preorder options.
I asked if there was anyway to get called when the start taking them, and they mentioned that they think they (or corporate) will be calling everyone who has wii game preordered, much like they just called everyone who had Zelda reserved for the GC to see if they'd like to switch it to the Wii.

My GameCrazy had been taking "deposits" on the Wii since last year. Just two days ago we got the hotmail stating that we would not be taking pre-orders on the system, and to await further details. We have to date 27 people on the list. I spoke with my boss, and he said we would treat the "deposits" as pre-orders. However we do tell most of our guests that if they wished they may pre-order games, and accessories as they become available. I have a feeling though that the Wii wont be as hard to come by as the XB360 was, just my 2 cents.

I pre-ordered the Wii back in June when FYE first put their signs up. I stopped by yesterday and inquired what number I was on the list since I was numero uno when I put down my deposit. The employee told me not to to worry and that there were only nine (!) people so far on the list. I'm still a little worried though considering the 360 debacle last year. I really don't think the Wii launch will be like the 360 launch but I'm glad it's big released on a Sunday. This way I can wait in line if it comes to that.
I'm having flashbacks to th 360 launch! I waited in line twice: once on release day and then on Black Friday when there were all those rumours of Best Buy receiving an allotment. I remember on release day I was so close to receving a ticket. The whole thing just seemed so sketchy. The line didn't seem that bad but then about an hour before the line in front me doubled. I guess friends held places for their friends and maybe some cut their way in. The minute those tickets were handed out people started to announce that they were selling their tickets for a thousand. I hope that Best Buy and others help curb all of the frustration this time. Having been a gamer for 25 years now and having witnessed the PS2 launch (I got one on day one), the 360 launch really felt like the ugliest time to be a gamer. Good luck to everyone who wants a PS3. I would probably pick one up if I knew I had a chance and if I didn't that it was going to be far worse than the 360 release.

Take this with a grain of salt...but it is good news about EB/Gamestop preorders in the continental US if true.
The store location necessitates a "Lets Go Mountaineers!" from me.
All good news for me, as that's just what I'm hoping for.

Although they aren't starting them now, here's the information I've got so far. (At least pertaining to my local store, located in Morgantown, WV.)
1. They aren't taking Wii pre-orders YET, but ARE taking pre-orders for Wii launch games (IE Zelda:Twilight Princess). That's $5 minimum down.
2. IF you pre-order a Wii game, you will recieve an automated call they day that they will start taking Wii pre-orders.
3. Wii pre-orders will not be delegated by the bundle you buy, but rather a "first come, first serve" basis.
4. Wii pre-orders are $50, and this does NOT have to be in trade-in credit.
5. If you trade in any old games/DVDs towards your Wii, you will get an additional 30% credit.

My local GameCrazy isn't taking pre-orders per se. They are taking deposits on pre-orders, which might as well be the same thing. Basically, you have to keep $50 in your trade in account, or put $50 down, and they lock in your position on the pre-order list. Once pre-orders begin, they'll just move your money over to the pre-order in the order you were when you put it down. So, say you're the 9th person to deposit money, you're the 9th pre-order when it begins.
Goofy and stupid, yes. Did I do it? Hell yes.

well i think wii sports and zelda either are or are not going to sell someone on a pre-order. I am looking forward to wii sports more than any game that has come out in a while.

NOA says they'll have at least 1 million units for North America.

If true it should be pretty easy to find one.

I'm going to preorder at a B&M: Standing in line in the bitter cold, worrying they won't have any left, watching the store employees wonder why all these dorks are lined up outside their door.... that's a Nintendo tradition for me.

I was going to pre-order it on Amazon but I can't pre-order it
