The Japanese release list shows Swords of Legendia from the Tales series.

Isn't XBox Live a monthly charge? So, you can't really play something out of the gate on 360, unless you subscribe to Live.

It's it's now free, then I'll delete thist post when I get schooled.

It's a yearly fee but there is free access for SOME things.. demos MAY be part of that, but I'm not sure.

For those worried about preorders, launch supplies etc....

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153637

Nintendo intends on shipping 4 million Wii consoles in the 43 days before the calendar year ends. The United States, Fils-Aime states, will get the majority of these consoles.
....looks like we won't have anything to worry about.

I am praying that they buck the trend from the past where you can't buy 'special' cables, ie, Component or S-Video in store. I don't want to buy one at launch, and have to wait 2 - 4 weeks to receive a Component cable if they are on back order.

Yeah, I need S-video and hope it is included, or that it can just use the GC cable (which is the same as the SNES and N64 cables).

Yes game demos are part of the XBL Silver service.

I'm disappointed by the price of the system and additional controllers but only because I wished it were lower. Not shocked because I know not to follow the hype of suggested pricing over the net. I am really disappointed with the downloads pricing, I had a list of games that I would love to revisit but at what Nintendo will be asking, probably not, I'll trim that list down to essential very little. So far, still in it for the launch, unless something else drastically cuts into it.

I'll pay $5 to download Crystalis.

Just sayin'.

And about Xbox Live - isn't online multiplayer the only thing you actually pay for, other than the other things you need points for, like full versions of XBLA games, pictures, and so on?

Xbox Live Gold is the pay service. Silver is the free service. The only difference between Gold and Silver is that with Silver you can't play online against other people. Silver still has the downloads, demos, and everything else.

Yeah Basically. I can't say for sure but I think there is some exclusive content for gold members, most things will cost you MS points.

The service is cheap as hell and well worth every penny though IMO.

Yeah, through Amazon you can get it for $35/13 months I do believe. I recently ordered the Xbox Live Vision package, camera and 13 months of XBL for $59.99 (yes, a price mistake, but still).

Back to the Wii:

Did they say anything new about the Wii Connect24 service (or whatever it's called)?

To address an earlier point, Wiisports will use the Nunchuck for at least boxing. Check out the video on www.gamevideos.com.

Yeah, I somehow doubt someone wanting a system to launch at $150 with $20 games is going to opt for a $400 system with $60 games when those unrealistic expectations weren't met. For the record, 90% of the people polled here voted $200 to $250 in the Wii Price Speculation thread you started. You're in the vast minority of those thinking it was going to be that cheap.

It'll be interesting to see how frequent it's used at this point. If it seems like 90% of the games are going to use it I bet they'll bundle the two pieces together. I was also thinking back to how high the controllers and memory cards were initially for last generation. Wired PS2 and Cube controllers were $35 and wired Xbox controllers were $40. They all took a $10 dive soon enough though. So maybe there'll be Wii combo at $50 after the first year (still high.. but that seems to be the trend, sigh).

Okay, I didn't read every single post since I logged off last night, but here are my thoughts:

November 19th - Awful idea. The Wii needs a little breathing room, because it's so new and innovative. Nintendo needs to get in-store demos into stores by the end of September, and release in October. I think by releasing so close to the PS3, they're going to be in its shadow. Plus I'm going to be in the middle of moving from Northern California to Southern California right around that time, so I may have to wait to get one. This, to me, is Nintendo's one big screw up.

Price - Price doesn't bother me. I was prepared to pay this for one system with only one controller/attachment. Wii sports will have some useful stuff for one player (baseball, bowling), but I may just turn around and trade it in at work the moment I buy it to get the max trade in value.

VC prices - I'm going to be buying less games with these prices. If NES games had been $2, SNES had been $5, and N64 $10, I would have bought a lot more. So Nintendo just lost some money there.

Channels - Looks interesting.

Controller prices - Nintendo used to be the king of expensive attachments, but $60 for the two pieces seems to push this further than ever. This also makes me scared as to how much pieces like the light gun attachment will cost.

In the end, I think as many people have said, this pricing scheme could push people to get a 360 instead. Especially since you know MS will have some kind of Christmas bundle. They had better have something awesome to play in their in-store demos.

And someone asked if Zelda coming out on GC might lower sales of the Wii. I think this is exactly why it's coming out in December. People don't want to wait that long, they've waited so long already, and if they see it on a shelf, they might just say, "Oh, the hell with it" and pick up a Wii and Zelda.

I agree. But he was saying in the post you quoted that people wanting the PS3 but unable to find one, will probably buy the 360 instead of the Wii in place of the PS3 when they are sold out due to the Wii price structure/contents.

I disagree though, as I don't think many people that want a PS3 at launch at $600 are interested in the Wii to begin with, and certainly not as a substitute for the PS3. The 360 has a game library closer to what someone who's a big enough sony fan to buy a PS3 at launch would want.

I mean someone buying a PS3 to play Resistance, isn't going to say fuck it I'll get a wii and Zelda and Wiisports. They're going to say fuck it, I'll get a 360 and Gears of War.

The Wii price has no impact on that.

Will they even take it since no one will buy it as everyone with a Wii will have a copy?

Even if they do I imagine it will be a $1 trade value from the start do to that.

I saw people asking about internet hookup. Saw this on the Wii site:

The Wii console can communicate with the Internet even when the power is turned off. The WiiConnect24 service delivers a new surprise or game update, even if the system is idle. Users can connect wirelessly using IEEE 802.11 or a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor.

If I buy it at launch and immediately open the box and trade it in, it might have some value. Obviously I'll look it up ahead of time to see what it would get. I'll let you know once we get a SKU for it.

Fair point. But how many will do that? Pay $250 to play it a not quite a month early, assuming that there is nothing else on the Wii they want in the launch window?

Seems to me that losing Metroid is big, as they lost the 1 big EXCLUSIVE game they were to have at launch.

They'll have stuff like Red Steel, which has quite a bit of buzz attached to it.

Does anyone have a current launch list or did I miss that earlier in the barrage of posts?

Losing Metroid and Dragon Quest are critical blows to me.

Most of the buzz I've seen on that game has been negative. (board posts, magazine, website, podcast impressions etc.)
