Not only is it real time you have to pay attention when and how you attack. For example, attacking on the shield side of a character will be less succesful than on an unshielded side.

I got a 7900GT from Newegg for $315. Is it worth the extra 30 bucks? Who knows. But I haven't been able to afford the latest and greatest video card in about 8 years, so I had to do it.

I played the last Elder Scrolls for about an hour and got fed up- not sure if I'm going to get this. The reviews are making me think.

Same here. I didn't get into MorrowWind at all; mostly because I felt the fighting system just didn't feel right or real (or fun) to me. Supposedly it is improved this time, but still one of the weaker aspects of the game.

Well, I finally started playing. I'm not OVERLY impressed with the game...I think Im overwhelmed a bit actually. Also, I got a Dirty Disc Error in the middle of the game, which pissed me off. I went to grab a sheep and it stopped....maybe it was telling me something...hehe

Anyways, the game seems massive....lots to do. Not sure how much time I have to invest in something like this. I may put it on the backburner for a while and finish my other games. I'm not a big RPG fan anyways, but this seems to be promising, if I can figure out everything.

I love this game I was up till 2am last night, the side quests are great. Only problem when traveling to another destination what is with all of the up and downhill climbing, are there no flat lands. I was riding my horse and fell off a cliff killing him and nearly myself.

This game is pretty great, but I am having a hell of a time leveling up. I picked archer at the beginning, and I've completed the arena sidequests, closed the oblivion gate and joined all the guilds. I've logged over 12 hours in the game and I am still a level 2 with zero progress towards level 3. I feel pathetic, although the enemies still aren't that difficult.

What are your primary skills? The only way you level up is my leveling those primaries. I'm assuming marksman is one if you are an archer so go hunt deer, board, and wolves to work on that. If acrobatics is a primary then hop everywhere you go to practice it. Also make sure that you haven't already gotten everything to level and just haven't slept in a bed to gain the level. I do that all the time because i spend so much time using the wait command to get to the time of day i need and hardly ever sleep in a bed to gain the level.

I started out with one of the canned characters. I played for around 3.5 hours and never hit level 2. After reading the first few pages of the guide and obtaining a better understanding of the character creation process, I went back and created a custom character with primary skills that *I* was interested in. I hit level 2 pretty quickly and I'm enjoying the game more.

yea, I'm afriad I'm either gonna have to put up with never leveling up, or I'm gonna have to restart. Sucks because I've logged in many hours already.

I'm guessing you have a PCI-E motherboard? I would have gone with the 7900 GT card if my board supported PCI-E - I'm still stuck in the AGP era. I really didn't want to fork out $1200 to do a complete upgrade to my system right now. I have a good cpu(AMD 64 3400) and 2gb RAM so that's plenty good to run Oblivion it's just my card was lacking to run the game @ 1680x1050.

If you're going to get a video card I would recommend picking up an eVGA card. Not only do they make great cards but they have this pretty cool deal called the step-up program which allows you to trade in the card you bought for a newer card and they give you credit for the full amount you paid for your card towards the purchase of a new one. This actually made my purchase a little bit easier, knowing that I'm going with AGP now I can upgrade to a PCI-E card later when I'm ready to upgrade.

okay, well I'm about 6 - 7 hours in on the 360 version and the game finally clicked with me. I've accomplished a few things and got the navigation of the menus, etc down, including activating quests, etc, which makes it easier to know where to head toward on the map. I'm mostly using the quick travel options, etc. Not sure I'll get into the whole time of day aspect of the game, etc unless the game forces me to at some point. Seems very deep but so far is allowing me not to get too deep if I don't want to. I have done some combining of ingredients to make potions, etc. I think I'll enjoy it now. I was close to thinking this game was just not for me, but it just took me a while to get into it (I'm slow, I know )

Not to sure I like the whole aspect of "finding things" being stealing so that you can get arrested later, etc. One of the things I've just been picking up is the books, etc so that I can read them later if they turn out to be important, so I just take them rather than sit there and read them at the time. But seems my bounty is increasing, etc... I did not like that whole aspect for the 10 minutes or so I played Fable either.

But in any case, I'm getting into it so far, and that's pretty good for someone whose attention span is better for playing games like Gauntlet . Combat's not as good as I'd like but apparently its better than past Elder Scrolls games in that aspect.

I was cleaning up a bunch of saves my wife had made and accidentally deleted my save. I had about 25 hours and now I'm starting over.

Only a week lost, so it's not too bad.

Thanks to the OP who posted about CompUSA's pricing on Oblivion - PMed it at Best Buy and used my RZ card as well. And the wife is a teacher, so we went over to Borders and picked up the guide for 25% off (this week they had a teacher appeciation event).

Nice haul for the day.

Has anyone heard of a glitch on the final mage's guild quest? I really don't want to do this dungeon over again.

So I was fighting some vampires and contracted something hemophilia. I'm assuming this is some vampire disease that will eventually transform me. However, I couldn't find anywhere in the journal system that says I'm infected. Is there anyway to find out for sure, and if I really am infected, how do I cure myself?

To cure yourself just go to a shrine and access the altar or use a cure disease potion or something. Otherwise in 3 days you will be a vampire.

Heh.. last night I was playing. I was at a point where I needed to sleep for a quest to progress. I was visited by a Dark Brotherhood member.
I guess, in an earlier quest, I had to investigate 2 women that were robbing men they lure out to a farmhouse. When they learned that I was there to investigate, they attacked me. I killed them, thogugh I suppose I must have had a glitch in the game or something. At one point, the 3 women seemed to be dead, but two of them came back to life repeatedly. I went into the basement, and when I went back upstairs, the town guard was there to finish up and I left.
I talked to a guard in the nearby town, and wasn't arrested. So I didn't think anything of the farmhouse events.

But, I guess I did kill someone I wasn't supposed to accidently because the Dark Brotherhood member showed up.

I completed that quest, and am a member now. But I guess that stops me from using the shrines in churches in the towns. At least the one I tried didn't do anything. Which I suppose makes sense, since the text on the screen when you face one says "For followeres of the Nine to remove afflictions" etc.

I'm almost done with the Mage guild quests, I think I have 3 more to do.
I did my first quest in the Fighters guild and the first in the Dark Brotherhood.
After the Mage guild quests, I'll be looking for the Thieves guild. I thought I had that one last night. I was asking around about the Grey Fox. One woman in a town told me a place to be and a person to look for. But I forgot who and where that was.

You can still use the shrines when your a DB memeber as long as you don't have a bounty.

I also have been invited to join the DB. On a thief quest i killed a guy to get his boots. Punk wouldn't fork them over and. I'm on the next to last part of the final thief quest - i'm pretty stoked.

Then i need to look into being accepted back as a mage. They kicked me out for killing one of their own. I did get some cool mithril armor though and eventually need to try that first oblivion gate again. I went in once and got trounced by the daedra. It was not a pretty sight.

Ahh.. thats good to know. Maybe it was just this one location then. It was a shrine, in a church. I think it was in Imperial City.

The quest to get into the DB was really easy. And they do give you a cool named dagger..

That first Fighters guild quest was annoying, and you don't even get a promotion after completeing it. At least in the Mage guild, after the first quest, I was able to get a promotion and admission to the Arcane university. Except taht the first quest required 7 seperate quests from each city guild to get a letter of recommendation.

The deal is over, ended Saturday night/Sunday morning, however you want to look at it.

Was $39.99 (PC), $44.99 (Xbox360).. if you can find a copy of the ad and take it to a place that doesn't check the dates on em, you may be alright, but YMMV.

So I've finished the DB, have one quest left for the Thieves Guild, and looks like I may be stuck on the last mission of the Mage's Guild (it keeps glitching and I can't finish it). I think it's about time to start the main quest.
