>So far it seems like it is just one side quest after the other from what I have read. Is there a continuous story throughout?<
Yes there is a main quest story arc that takes about 25 hours to complete, and there are also story lines throughout each of the factions (there are 4 of them total). The side quests are optional and can be done at any time througout the main story or really anytime you are playing the game. The journal system makes it really easy to jump in and out of quest lines. Combat feels great (I'm biased) - and it feels different depending on your character and weapon. Doesn't get as repetitive as Condemned.
Another tip is to save your game right before you exit the sewer in the dungeon. When you exit the sewer the game will give you the option to change any aspect of your character you want to. After getting a better feel for the game you can come back to this save and redo a new character without playing through the tutorial/first dungeon again.

I've played for a total of 7 hours, and I haven't even finished the first quest out of the sewers. There is so much to do its unbelievable. I've done a quest at the Imperial City and fought in the Arena. This is definitely not a hack and slack game which I am so glad. I just love sneaking up on people and getting that initial extra damage when fighting.
This AI is something else. I was walking around in the countryside and saw a deer. I decided to kill it. I believe I was upwind from it, and the way the deer was reacting it seemed it was smelling/sensing me. I would get closer and it would hear me even in sneak mode and would run off. I finally killed with a lucky shot with the bow. I hit it towards the back leg, so it did not died right away. It ran off alittle bit and finally killed over.
This game is the reason why I bought my 360.......

A bit of a word of warning for people. At least one side quest requires you to follow a series of events in a particular order or you'll get frustrated trying to do something you cant.
Im talking about the 'find the missing painting' quest in Chorral.
I was searching for clues and in a place where some main clue was, but it wouldnt let me open a chest until I had questioned other people first. It was VERY frustrating. No lock, no key, it just looked like a bug--but It was rigged in the game so it wouldnt let me until I had satisfied all the questionings first. To me thats kind of cheap. If i find a hiding place with evidence, I shouldnt have to question suspects before it will let me access it.

You can't ruin quests by exploring dungeons at random. If it's a quest dungeon it will be locked or the dungeon will have been designed in such a way that anything you do won't ruin the quest or break it. There are a TON of non-quest dungeons and the only way to find them is to explore the world.

I'm running it at that and it seems fine, although I haven't done much beyond make my character. Will have to test it more tonight, but I'm running the following:
P4 3.2
2.25gb ram
ATI X800 PCI-X card 256mb
Guess I'll test it tonight.

I'm running at 1600x1200 w/ 8x AF HQ + HDR. It is running on an AMD Opteron 165 DC (@ 2.4ghz), 2GB Ram, and an X1900XTX. It seems to be running around 30-40 outdoors and 40-80 indoors. This is with all settings set to max. Looks pretty damn impressive too. Now if only I had the time to jump into it and start the main quest.

I don't see what the issue would be in posting it, provided it is properly spoilered and marked as a cheat/glitch. And actually its more of a glitch in the game, rather then a hack/cheat. I've read that post at XBox.com forum.

Im not interested in a cheat or glitch right now either, but Im not opposed to someone posting it.
But, is everyone's goal to get more cash? I know in Fable, the gold wasnt as big of a deal because you could find most items without buying them. Is this game the same? or to get better weapons do you have to save up gold?

I found this on the elderscroll.com board, and it came from someone on the ign.com boards. I do not have my 360 currently so I can not say if these work or not.
Warning, this is a bug/glich that some consider a cheat, do not highlight if you do not want to know.

At the same time, I want to be a good fighter, hence the Orc choice. Will this work out the way I want it to? (having an all-around character)
This game is absurdly massive. I just got out of the sewers, and I can't decide if I should go to the main quest, or try to do some other stuff to level up.

You basically take the character in the direction you want, when you level up you can choose what attributes you'd like to change so if you notice something is a bit lacking by your standards just level that up when your overall level changes I think you chose a pretty decent character to use.

What are the controls like for the 360? I would ordinarily get a game like this for the PC but I'd have to build a new one from the ground up, and I'd rather do that next year when Vista and DX10 comes out like someone else mentioned.
I really can't play FPS games on a console. Never got used to the targeting. But I might get a 360 and prjector screen to play this instead.
So is there a lot of careful targeting and aiming required in this game which would make a keyboard + mouse setup better than the 360 controller?

Oh, another thing, does the game look any better on the pc over the 360. I ask because the xbox 360 just got released here in Australia yesterday and I had to set one up at work. Got it hooked up to a 24" widescreen HD monitor via component, set the console to 1080i mode and put in NBA 2006 in for a test run. It looked pretty horrible compared to what I'm used to on the PC. There was just a lot of blotchy areas and it just wasn't crisp. Is Oblivion the same on the 360 cause it goes without saying thay it would look crisp on a high spec pc with the same monitor.

Two quick questions for anyone:
How do you see your frame rate? I'd like to be able to see it to tweak for max res. vs. playablity.
Is there anyway to "Hot key" spells? I've got weapons and potions in my 1-8 spots, but it won't let me put spells there. I'm tired of hitting "tab" going to my spell menu, selecting the new spell, exiting and hitting "C". There has to be a better way.
BTW... 4 hours in, no quests, just messing around. This game is simply incredible. I'm thinking of trying to find someone to have an affair with my wife so I can get some uninterupted playing time. Of course he nagging can be a good thing. She pestered me into going to sleep last night at 12:30 AM because I had to be at work at 6:00 AM. I may have played until 3:00 AM otherwise.
