Well, my bro-in-law pre-ordered from one of the game stores, and camped out at one of the electronics stores, and I have the option for the second unit. New this is pretty extraordinary that for once he is thinking about somebody else. Should I get the unit, sell all of my PS2 stuff and make the switch, or just let him sell it on eBay? I have alway been more of a Sony guy.

I really don't want to accept the offer, then sell it, it just seems shady. How much would a full-size PS2, Logitech wireless, several memory cards, all GTAs, Gran Tourismo 3 and 4, tigerwoods '05, Metal Gear solid and Socom 3 trade in for? I have some more older games that probably won't be worth much.
I'm assuming you'd have to pay your bother in law for it, in that case, I'd just pass.

I can't reccomend spending $400+ on a game console to someone that's a very casual gamer. Especially one who is "more of a Sony" guy.

I'd just stick with the PS2 for now if I were you, and think about a 360 or PS3 down the road after a price drop.

I say go for it and keep it. All your stuff would probably go for $200-$250 (list it soon). Your brother made a very nice gesture to you and I bet he'd be happy knowing you get it and enjoy it. The launch is one of the most impressive in recent history, some really good games out there. Also, what's the point of being a gamer if you can't try different systems out there? I hate that people put themselves into boxes and can't see outside the own console they own. Sony & Xbox games are very closely related judging on the games you own.

Sorry for getting OT guys, let's keep this thread off track

I agree, I say keep it. Unless you're in dire need of that 400 bucks for the system, i'm sure it would be a lot of fun to give it a go.

Well, over 1/2 of the cost would be taken care of as part of various "presents". Anyway, I went for it, so hopefully I can get it early, although I can wait. I figure in a year I could either unload it and get a PS3, or if I enjoy it sufficiently pass on the PS3. The only games from Sony that kept me around were the Metal Gears and Gran Tourismos, so those kinda have some equivilent on Xbox.

As for unloading my PS2, should I just put it on Ebay as a lump sum for $100 starting, or do you think the same result could be approximately expected from EB Games?

Just a heads up: all the Gamerushes in Indianapolis got 4 core systems each on Friday. I know at least one person who just stopped in and bought one. My closest store used theirs to fulfill their remaining pre-orders, then the employees bought the rest. You might want to give them $100 to pre-order the next shipment, becuase they didn't take pre-orders beyond 10 units, and they have huge signs in-store that say "Pre-Order a 360 for $100."

Personally I think the combination of Forza + PGR are greater than GT but that's just my opinion. Splinter Cell is a better than Metal Gear, but again my opinion. I also noticed you mentioned having SOCOM 3, the new Ghost Recon looks like that would satisfy that thirst.

Ebay, you should put it on Ebay tomorrow night, do a 7 day auction, throw all your shit into one big auction. Start it at $.01 - don't even do a Buy It Now.

I don't have any gamerushes near me. Would blockbuster be receiving in similar inventory or am I SOL?

You could always try calling? Something tells me not, however. I'm assuming Gamerush is similar to Game Crazy at Hollywood Video stores?

According to ups.com, my costco.com system is in Atlanta, ready to be delivered on Monday (11/28). But now all of the shipping info is gone and the only status is 'billing information received'.

WTF?

I heard that Microsoft screwed up and sent Kameo instead of PGR which is supposed to be in the bundle. I wonder if this is related?

Edit: Never mind, shipping info is back to normal. Panic attack avoided.

if this has already been mentioned, sorry -- i did a quick thread search for "major" and only got hits for "major pain in the ass".

this blog is purported to be written by a member of the xbox team ("major nelson"). per his information, stores will get weekly shipments of the xbox 360 (whether this means on shelves monday, tuesday or wednesday, i am not sure). i plan to swing by my local target and wally-world on monday and tuesday mornings -- if i happen to pick one up, great. otherwise i will wait until the supply line is replenished.

I was at Fry's in Irving, TX yesterday and, the supervisor in the game department mentioned something about a recall. Anyone else hearing this? He said he was only going to expect one more shipment before Christmas. I don't think he had any physical evidence to support this information though. I think he was trying to be optomistic.

^ A lot of Xboxes are conking out after only playing them for a few hours. But it doesn't look widespread enough to warrant a full-blown recall.

some blogs/sites have suggested this might be due to an overheating power brick.

A trucker I talked to yesterday said he saw then in stock everywhere when he was in Idaho. hence he assumed there was no issue here. He was going to wait to buy one here to save on the sales tax. Obviously he couldn't find one.

So is Tuesday the day to check then? Or will it depend on the particular store?

No, Tuesday is when new movies come out for purchase, so he says he'll be making sure to check for the 360 each time he goes shopping.

Check every day not just Tuesdays, and keep praying for the Bears to win - they'll need it.

Nah, I don't need to pray for the Bears, Ditka still lives in Chicago. As long as he's stll on our side. Ditka has more power in his pinkey finger than any god you pray to.

So has anyone actually been able to buy one of these things that was NOT part of the initial shipment?

I try calling but constantly get the same line “we won’t be getting any more in until January”. I know they don’t know that, and are just assuming that because they’ve heard nothing official, but it’s definitely frustrating. The same thing was said about the slim PS2 last Christmas, but shipments were received from time to time. Here’s hoping people like Major Nelson have a clue what they’re taking about.
