Due to the recent spike in the Omicron variant and out of an abundance of caution, there will be no live audience for tonight’s taping of “Saturday Night Live” and the show will have limited cast and crew.

The gossip rag NY Post saying the cast had a ton of positive Covid cases. Saying Kenan is the only cast member to stick around to introduce taped segments .

No idea what kind of show this will be .

Doubt they had time to prepare everything needed for zoom sketches. Weren't those mostly pre-recorded the last time they did those any way? Any chance they recorded Charli XCX's rehearsals they can air?

Apparently the survivors were Tina Fey and Kenan Thompson.

I guess Only Murders in the Building Season 2 is filming. And odd Tina Fey can say Dick in a Box but the song is still censored.

No monologue. Tom Hanks was introduced, he explained the situation and show. He was wearing his 5 Timers Club robe. Then he introduced Tina Fey, also a Five Timer. A joke was made by Fey about Hanks starting COVID. Then Rudd came out and the duo joined by Kenan inducted Rudd into the 5 Timers Club: A video message from Steve Martin and cameo by Martin Short was played.

The whole thing should be on SNL’s YouTube channel.

Tom Hanks did, but it wasn't in detail other than "Covid came early this year." And that they sent everyone home.

Yeah, that was odd. I was thinking the same thing. Why is that song still censored. People say dick quite often on shows.

Yes, tonight is a clip show and pre-recorded bits. And lots and lots of real commercials. The first 15 minutes of the show were loaded with them.

They aren't going to disclose staff status with Covid but it would seem a few of them probably tested positive. Though Che's "Why are me and Kenan the only cast members here?" (:lol:) makes it questionable as to who.

This kind of feels like an apocalyptic telethon

That was the weirdest episode of... anything really.
It was weird last year when they had a smaller audience, but to have zero audience and just 5 players (2 cast members) is twilight zone material.

I liked the older Davidson sketch early on - had a really nice feel to it even if it wasn't hilarious.
The socks/bird skit was unbelievable stupid. And the "gag" went on way too long.
Why didn't they do Weekend Update with the desk, graphics, etc?

I think by saying "dick" it's more of a generic term, but within the sketch/song - it's specifically showing what they're referring to.
It's kinda like when a cast member of Schitts Creek was on Fallon - and every time they said "Schitt's Creek" they had to show the graphic logo of the show to separate it from the word "shit".

Only essential, read: skeleton, crew were in the building and floor to minimize more cases. The audio for the host segments was off and did not sound processed or mixed. Presumably because only a few or only one audio technician was there. There was no band so that explains Charli XCX’s cancellation.

There was not enough crew to setup and run the normal Weekend Update. At least we got that instead of it being sidelined.

Yeah, they would have been better off cancelling the whole show and airing a full repeat of a previous Christmas episode. Or nothing but a clips show. Anything but what we got tonight.

Yikes. Glad I recorded this so I can FF through most of it.

Man would I love to know what happened here with the Covid testing etc.
