Pete Davidson is coming back to host on May 6
That is maybe less than a year he left the show Usually it takes a couple of years or seasons for a SNL veteran to return to host a show. https://pagesix.com/2023/04/12/pete-...RP50LJ5XTkPh3E |

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
They could do Zoom shows to finish the season?
I wonder could they make up the 2 or 3 lost May episodes in the Summer or could they add those episodes to the Fall 2023-2024 season? |

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Could SNL just redo old sketches that have already been written? There's lots of sketches that never made it to air that they could do over. Pete could probably improv the monologue. Would be considered writing? Not sure what they would do for weekend update. It would be funny if they just read decades old new stories.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Looks like this weekend's SNL is officially off and it's probably done for the season: https://deadline.com/2023/05/snl-off...ke-1235354127/

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
So if they're done for the season, who's gone do you think?
Michael Che and Colin Jost would probably be at the top of the list (okay, after Molly Kearney), but it would really suck for them to not have a proper goodbye |
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I think it's probably easier to go backwards with who will be safe...
Kenan Thompson (safe -- he'll outlast everyone) James Austin Johnson (upgraded to regular) Sarah Sherman (upgraded to regular) Chloe Fineman (safe) Heidi Gardner (safe) Bowen Yang (safe -- sorry, Decker!) Ego Nwodim (probably safe) Mikey Day (probably safe) Punkie Johnson (might be on the chopping block) Michael Che (might be on the chopping block -- wasn't he making noise about leaving?) Colin Jost (he might be gone if Che goes) Micheal Longfellow (probably the most likely featured player to survive after Squirm and JAJ) Andrew Dismukes (???) Marcello Hernandez (???) Molly Kearney (???) Devon Walker (???) |
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Damn, this sucks.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I really don't see Che and Jost leaving anytime soon. I think for where they're at in life, especially Jost, this is a pretty cushy gig that makes their other gigs pay off well.
I think the idea of pulling sketches out of the archives to remount is fascinating, maybe even amalgamate between current and former cast together. I've long thought that another show with former cast rotating in to remount and/or write new stuff as a lead-in or lead-oit would be a hit. |
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I think performing scrapped skits or recycling old ones would be tantamount to crossing the picket line (the whole point of a strike is to show management how much the union workers are needed), and the cast is all SAG, so I'd say the chances are between No and Hell No.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Can we get someone to get an AI to generate what this weekend's show would have been? Even if it's just in text form, that would be a pretty good test for AI.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Saturday Night Live! I'm your host, Pete Davidson, and I'm thrilled to be here. Well, not thrilled, thrilled. I mean, I would be more thrilled if I wasn't crossing a picket line, but hey, here we are. Yes, it's true, the writers of SNL are on strike, and they have my full support. But apparently, the writers' guild doesn't recognize me as a writer. They say I'm just a performer. Can you believe that? I mean, I write all my own jokes, but sure, I'm just a performer. Anyway, I'm not here to take sides. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up that tonight's show might be a little different. I don't have any writers, so I had to write my own monologue. And let me tell you, it was not easy. I had to come up with my own jokes, which is really hard when you're stoned all the time. I mean, I usually just rely on the writers to come up with something funny, but now it's all on me. So, let's see what I came up with. Uh, oh, here's a good one: Why did the chicken cross the picket line? To get to the other side...of the contract negotiations. Okay, that one was bad. But hey, give me a break, I'm not a professional writer. But seriously, I do support the writers. They work hard to make this show funny every week, and they deserve to be compensated fairly for their work. So let's all show our support for the writers and hope that they get a fair deal soon. And in the meantime, I'll just keep doing what I do best: being a mediocre comedian. Thank you, and enjoy the show! |
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Marcello Hernandez seemed like the guy who was used the most among the new people so he is probably safe and I see potential in him.
Sucks no new SNL. I wonder how cool they are with Pete Davidson to give him the season opener or make him wait? Bupkis might be 4 or 5 months old when he finally has a chance to promote it. |
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
Cold open probably would have been either a Tucker Carlson or Met gala sketch. Probably a King Charles coronation sketch at some point, but that might have happened on next week's show.
|
re: SNL General Discussion Thread
I bet they would have had some sort of game show sketch. I hate to miss that.

And I thought Longfellow was one of the Please Don't Destroy guys, but I guess he isn't? |

re: SNL General Discussion Thread
So does this mean Ana De Armas technically hosted the season finale? I wasn't anticipating anything grand as the show hasn't really delivered many funny sketches in several decades IMO. But I always try to take time to watch the finale as that one tends to bring an A game as they are both going away for several months and they try to give some cast members a memorably send off, and there are others who are leaving but haven't officially announced or been notified.
