...and I'm late to the thread, but I knew the band because I actually have a CD of their album.

ETA: I looked them up and they actually have two albums out. I only have the first one.

Yeah, I only have the first one as well, but it's the only one with that singer.

They should sue Starcrawler for stealing their bit though, shouldn't they?

Re: The Conners (ABC) - Season 3 Thread

Great episodes lately IMHO...sad to hear nobody is watching anymore because I think the show is firing on all cylinders...

I love seeing the alcoholism storyline with Becky because I know that actress is dying to show us more of her dramatic side. Its too bad they always diminish her scenes by giving her stupid jokes but I guess it is a comedy show....for me, I like when it ventures into some dramedy

Anyone know what is going. on with the actor playing Ben and Katey Sagal? Are they being written out? I know Sagal has her new show because ABC is promoting the HELL out of it running ads every 15 minutes. I thought Ben was on the show for its duration since he is tight with Sara Gilbert. I wouldn't mind seeing both of them leave since their storylines seem to have run their course.

Maybe they are setting up Candace Bergen as Dan's new love interest and Brian Austin Green as Darlenes? Neither seems realistic but it is Lanford!

I read in several places that Sagal wants to keep her gig on "The Conners" in addition to her new show. She could swing both since she's not on "The Conners" all that much. Also, I read somewhere that Green was hired for just 1-2 episodes. But he was really good and wouldn't mind seeing him stick around longer. Kind of tired of Ben quite frankly.

Ben was an interesting character, but whether it was intentional or not, they've really weakened him and made him about as unpleasant as the rest of them.

There's never been anything even remotely interesting about Ben. When he first appeared, I thought he was written in as some type of temporary distraction for Darlene and her on again/off again relationship with David. And wish the writers had kept David as one of the returning characters. There's so much history there. And that character (and actor) and infinitely more likeable than Ben.

I would imagine Galecki had more to do with David returning than what the showrunners wanted. He made some appearances and probably didn't want to be a regular or they couldn't afford him. They'd have kept him in the mix if he wanted to be in the mix.

Ben just wasn't a good fit for Darlene and the show. He just rubbed me the wrong way from the start.

Re: The Conners (ABC) - Season 3 Thread

Another heavy heavy episode. But I really liked it. Goranson continues to impress me. And still my favorite on this show. And damn can she bring me near to tears. Three weeks until the next episode of the final two. On pins and needles wondering if ABC will renew it since the ratings have dropped so much. But it's their fault. I feel it would have maintained most of it's audience had they kept it on Tuesdays. I read last week that showrunner Bruce Helford told TVLine he hopes to explore the impact Becky’s relapse has on her baby daddy Emilio in a potential fourth season.

“It’s being discussed. I think we do well in the ratings. When you get the DVR numbers, the audience is very loyal to us…. And we all love this so much, so the will on our side is certainly there.” As for whether the Season 3 finale could serve as a makeshift series finale in the event the show does not come back, Helford admits, “It’s a very satisfying end of a season, I’ll put it that way. I don’t know if I would consider it an end of a series. But it’s definitely going to be a very satisfying end-of-season show for the audience.”

They can't cancel it until they have the episode where Dan finally pays off his 40 year mortgage.

I don't see how that makes THAT much of a difference, especially during the pandemic. If people are regular viewers of a show, they'll watch it on Wednesday night just as soon as they'd watch it on Tuesday. Really the only "black holes" for slots are Friday and Saturday night, and like I said that's not even as true since most people are home all the time now anyway.

Now, I just have to [math geek]Darlene didn't even show the solution to a quadratic equation, just the definition of what one is. Her crib note wouldn't have helped Mark solve a problem anyway[/math geek]

Yeah, at least x=-b+/-(SQRT(b^2-4ac))/2a would have been helpful.

I agree about Goranson but also have to give it to John Goodman. Of course with his experience I sort of expect he can dig down and pull out a performance.

Found this about the scene: https://www.cinemablend.com/televisi...laurie-metcalf

I forgot just how shitty Mark was to Becky.

The incident where Dan and Roseanne gave Becky college money that she instead gave to Mark to attend a trade program he didn't finish....that was when Sarah Chalke was in the role, wasn't it?

A lot of people are attacking the show for crapping on the Mark character like this, but I disagree with that. Mark WAS awful to Becky.

Well, at least we know how Mark died - motorcycle vs deer. I was under the impression all this time he died serving his country? Wasn't there a photo of him in uniform on the table during the last season with Roseanne still on the show?

Re: The Conners (ABC) - Season 3 Thread

Im so happy for Lecy Goransen. She really deserved a chance to show how good of an actress she is and the show finally gave her something to work with. She knocked it out of the park for me! Great scenes and of course John Goodman was a great partner in those scenes.

I love that they are exploring this backstory, which is really a back-backstory since it occurred on an entirely version of the show. How amazing that the writers have enough faith in the audience that they are going to remember the history of this character and allow it to payoff by telling how she got to where she is. And how great that they didn't just go down the path of Becky seeing Mark one way and Dan seeing him in another. At the end we see Becky realizing that Mark was a selfish asshole who ruined her life and she let him do it. 'I could have been a doctor!'

I would love to see this show go on for another five years to show us Becky go to medical school, become a doctor, marry another successful doctor and move up to at least a middle class existence while also helping out her Dad and the rest of the family by throwing some of that doctor money their way! That's the American dream right? That we all have the potential to uplift ourselves if we just work hard enough....

But given the ratings....

Where? And yes, he was awful to her. And not a likeable character at all.

I'm not sure he was actually required to solve a math problem. It was multiple choice... and we saw the screen which had no area to work out a problem - nor did Mark actually have a pencil/paper to work it out. I think it was just "Which one of these is the quadratic equation?" type of question - which is pretty dumb. In high school I always had to solve the math problem and had to show my work. Not even sure why Mark asked Darlene about the quadratic equation... if they just wanted you to point which one it is - then you only had to memorize the formula - you didn't have to know when/how to use it.
