Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Brad is still struggling to get a good foothold on the game.

I'm enjoying seeing these 3 go at it even more than I thought I would.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Wow! Jennings was certainly dominant, and deserved to be the GOAT. I was hoping James would extend the tournament, and shocked that he missed the final.

Brad just couldn't do anything right. Pretty strange to see such a lopsided tournament, at least with respect to Brad. Cost me a beer, too!

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

James pushed Ken to make wagers that he might not have done otherwise but truly a clutch performance. Poor Brad but the three contestants and Alex know they are part of something very special. Nice final shot of Brad and James hoisting Ken with his GOAT trophy.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

Very impressive job by Ken Jennings. He deserved the title. I liked the rather dramatic ending as well, James would have won the match if he got the Final right so it came down right to the end. Still, I was hoping for James to win this match at least to bring it to a decisive 5th game. Brad was disappointing throughout and it felt like he had no chance against these two guys. It almost feels like he knew he was outmatched so he decided to have fun with it instead.

For being only 4 days, that was a great battle between Ken and James. My jaw dropped when James got FJ wrong. Really thought they were heading to day 5, which would have been epic.

Just brutal. I rewound that and watched it 3 times last night just because I was laughing so hard. And I felt bad for laughing as much as I did.

One of the better aspects of this series was just how jovial it all was. It wouldn't have been nearly as fun if they were serious about it. The line from James was hilarious and let's not feel too bad for Brad here... the guy has made millions playing a game show after all.

This was great. That last episode Final Jeopardy was tense. Loved the overall banter and the all-in hand motions from Ken.

And I got some triple stumpers, so I can feel good

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

that final jeopardy was a little less tense for me because I'd noticed that was the last episode my DVR was set to record so I was pretty sure since Thursday when Ken got his 2nd and only 1 more episode scheduled he was going to take it.

Yep. I got a few, so felt less bad about the loads that I missed.

My favourite triple stumper that I, and most otters would've found easy:

I knew Bruce Lee's martial art with the acronym J-K-D but said June Keet Do aloud so I would have been wrong.
Credit to Pam Mueller for digging up this interesting fact: Iago is a variant name of James.

that's weird. my Optimum guide and DVR are still showing the next 3 nights that is why i didn't understand that it ended yesterday and what today was about. i guess just not updated. when James got the African nation Chad at the last second with that Daily Double i thought he'd take the match.

I still can't get over how smart those guys are. They were answering triple rhyme time and before-middle-and-after in about one second, while I was still digesting the clues.

But at least I knew Jeet Kune Do.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

I got the strong impression that Jeopardy's producers wanted Jennings to win the title. The categories, especially the repeated Shakespeare questions, were largely aimed at Ken's most dominant knowledge domains. Intimately knowing these contestants and their past histories on the show, it wouldn't be difficult constructing a board that tilts the odds towards one contestant.

Brad was a massive disappointment - he really only seemed to be there to block James from getting the Daily Doubles. Considering his past showings, one wonders what's really going on in his life.

You don't honestly believe they rigged Jeopardy!, do you?

I'm glad I didn't check my TiVo 'ToDo' list, as I would've been pissed if it had spoiled the outcome, for me.

Yeah, those were killers.

Another thing I notice about Jeopardy is that the answers they give are sometimes a bit wordy and confusing, and I need to parse them out them before I can come up with the right question; it often feels like Yoda wrote them. Not sure if it's by design, to make it more difficult, or because they're giving "answers" that need "questions."

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

How about that Math to Roman Numerals to actor name category? Clealy you could get some without doing the math, but my brain was still processing the answer when they were buzzing in.

Poor Brad, just wasn't his game this time. I mean he got so many Double Jeopardys and shot the moon on all and lost multiple times. Brutal. That's how James' changed the game. Contestants going all in when they probably shouldn't.

That was fun. I was hoping it would go another night.

Re: Jeopardy! Discussion

It was a good watch and Jennings was amazing, but I am not so sure the format was that great. It basically came down to who found the daily doubles. Not sure what they could do to fix it Brad was just soooo over matched. I got the impression that the other 2 really worked on their knowledge. I thought the categories were maybe a little too much in their wheelhouse, and while there were some obscure clues, there were a LOT of others that seemed obscure from the clue but could be guessed just from context.

I can kind of see this. Not in a "we'll do everything in order for Ken to win!" way, but more of a slight push in his direction. Ken is a more likeable everyman type than autistic degen gambler James.

It's the same format they use in every tournament. It was just done in an hour format, rather than over two days.

I'm baffled that anyone thinks they would rig this in any way. They have zero to gain from that.

How so? Brad got most of them and blew them all. Jennings got a couple in the last match and went all in to win it.

Ken is far more popular with regular Jeopardy viewers and kind of the Jeopardy community's oracle/spokesman on social media. James is widely seen as a prickly gambler that introduced unpopular betting strategies into the game. He was a non entity in this tournament, but Brad for years has been portrayed somewhat as an arrogant villain.

If you are building a lasting brand and following, you want Ken representing Jeopardy over the other two. This becomes more important since Trebek's remaining time on Jeopardy is quite limited. No one is quite sure if Jeopardy's ratings will remain high after he departs.
