I've never understood Coulson's popularity. He was cool as a supporting character in Captain America and since has become a minor character with way too much screen time in Marvel's films.

The problem is that Coulson works great at what essentially comes across as a blue collar 9 to 5 spy. He shows up, does his job and that's it. It's amusing in that he seems so "just another Tuesday" about his job. Unfortunately, that's not enough to sustain a character as the lead of his own show. He's amusing but not genuinely interesting.

After him, the next male central figure is Ward who has the physicality and masculinity of Sheldon Cooper.
There just isn't anyone for me to root for. I hate to make an Arrow comparison, but you have Ollie and Digg as male central figures that pretty much anyone can find something to root for in them.
I just don't know why Marvel just didn't take one of their superheroes who was never going to get his own movie and just roll with that.

Ghost Rider probably would have made for a hell of a cable 13 episode a season series (as would The Punisher). For something on the lighter/younger side, I seem to recall a group called something like The New Warriors with some Batman-like black guy, Firestar from the old Spider-Man cartoon, and I want to say Speedball in it. That could have probably slotted into this slot fairly well budget inclusive.
ETA: Having a show that is about some set of superheroes that Coulson drops in on four or five times a year would feel a lot more organic than what we have now.

I think their licensing -- internal AND external -- is just way too restrictive at the moment. It looks like anyone who is a mutant (except maybe Franklin Richards) gets allocated to Fox for XMen. Anyone related to the FF or the Silver Surfer except evidently or Thanos gets allocated to FF. Anyone related to Spider-Man gets allocated to Spider-Man. Anything else gets allocated to The Avengers and they're really paranoid about using the things that remain there. Hell I think I heard even Namor is optioned somewhere.

Main reason I quit on the show.

There are lots characters they could use. Current comics, Secret Avengers and Indestructible Hulk have Shield employing superheroes on missions. Mockingbird, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Drew (Spider Woman), Taskmaster and Daisy Johnson are characters that I'd have liked to see on this show. Even with the references to the movies it doesn't feel close enough to the MCU to me. I think they should've kept Coulson dead.

Can the people who post negative things about the show post if they think The Dark Knight Rises is a good film so I can ignore all of their future posts in this thread? Thanks.

Now making those characters interesting, that's a whole other story.
Personally, I'd love Iron Fist and Luke Cage (though Cage is a big part of the comic Avengers plus he's a key to the diversity that comics usually lack), because their powers won't break the bank, plus they're already on a current cartoon. I'm not sure they'd do them justice in this show, though.
Now if they cast, say, a Carol Danvers for the movies and put it in the contract to have her on the show, that's all well and good.

Like I said before, if/when they bring in Marvel characters, no matter how minor, that's when the fanbase will get up in arms, because hey, Stilt Man is a sacred character (to someone) and you can't mess with him. I think they did a decent job introducing characters that have no comic affiliation, just so fanboys aren't always expecting some Avengers subplot from 1982 to surface.

Marvel's movies are all starting to be a blur for me.
I hope you mean Graviton, the Avengers' villain. If the show calls him Gravitron, Disney decided to license the Transformers from Hasbro.

Gravitron is an amusement park ride, Graviton is a ship from Transformers.

Graviton (Transformers) is obscure, even for me, I think he meant Galvatron.
Anyway, Graviton (Marvel) is a pretty obscure villain, but I'm sure there will still be outrage since he can pretty much take the Avengers on single handedly. Nothing like the Mandarin controversy, though, I'm sure.

You fucking n00bs got it all wrong, it's Galveston. And he's one of the Outsiders' most dangerous villains, if not THE most dangerous villain in the entire Valiant universe.
