Under the Dome's ratings were actually slightly higher Monday night. 11.8M viewers and 2.9. Still down from week 1, but that's expected.

My whole UTD experience was one big "Meh". I don't know what I was thinking, my experience with other King-to-TV adaptations should've warned me that his writing style geared more toward the unwashed masses, and that whenever he dabbles in Sci-Fi he has to throw in a whole buch of metaphysical stuff ("Pink stars are falling") that I know will have no basis in science.
I'll stream Falling Skies on my XBMCed Raspbery Pi to fill in the gaps this summer.

Some really lazy writing. When the two teens spot the fire I believe it went something like this:
Dork: Whoa
Nerd: What?
Nerd: Fire
Dork: Let's Go

Nerd: Fire
Dork: Let's Go

The pilot episode was okay, but the second episode was total shiite. Really hate the psycho James character, tempted to fast-forward through any of his scenes.

I can scarcely believe this show was written and performed by adults, for adults.

I'll try... I did LOL when the deputy started shooting at the dome and the bullet ricochets into the other deputy. I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be funny though.

Yeah, this show is shit. The season pass would already be deleted from my dvr if it wasn't summer. But there's so little on right now, I guess I'll stick with it a bit longer.

I caught the encore airing of the second episode last night and yeah, this is turning into a big disappointment. I don't mind that it deviates from the book, but that when it does, the narrative is often worse.
However, I'll likely stick with it until the end for curiosity's sake.

This show isn't for me. For curiosity's sake, I'll read the synopsis after it's over in a few months.

If this junior storyline doesn't resolve itself in the next few episodes, ill be checking out as well. Easily the worst part of the show in my opinion.

Re: Stephen King's Under The Dome - Spielberg Produced - CBS
I thought the book had a really riveting 800 pages and then the last 200 pages really crapped out and failed to deliver. Bad "villain" death, terrible dome explanation, etc. So, I went into this excited that there was going to be some different explanation for the dome and, hopefully, a better ending.
However, I'm having a real hard time just getting through it. It's boring.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind a good slow, deliberate pace like a lot of good old films had, etc. I also don't mind having to wait for pay-offs and answers (i.e. I loved watching Lost the entire 6 years and even loved the finale).
However, it's really hard to put my finger on the problem. I don't know if I should blame the actors, the script, the editor, the director, or the cinematographer. The whole thing is just so damn slow and boring. Nothing seems accomplished each week and I don't care about anybody in it after they killed their best actor in the first episode. The fuzzy late-90s-looking effects don't help either. :/
About the characters, what's terrible too is that I read the book (granted it was when it was first published) but still can't remember hardly anybody's name three episodes in. I know "Scarecrow" Joe, Duke, Barbie, and Junior. I think Junior's dad is Big Jim? I'm not cheating and looking elsewhere online to confirm, so those are the only characters I can name off the top of my head. There's just no attachment for me to anyone now.
If this was going to be a full season of 22+ episodes I think I would quit watching now.
However, I only have 10 more to go, so I'll stick through it. If they haven't convinced me by the end I'm not going to come back next season (if there is one).

I enjoyed the book and I'm also disappointed so far, but I'm sticking with it. For now. This was the weakest episode but a lot of shows have down episodes, even out of 13. I'll give it at least half the season. The previews for next week look pretty good, although that doesn't mean much.
Funny enough, I'm rewatching Jericho right now on netflix. While both are heavily flawed shows with a number of similarities (one-note characters, inane "small town" melodrama in what should be a serious adult setting, weak dialogue and character decisions - using your last match to face the person because the convo is more serious than being lost underground? Really??) Jericho is far more interesting. Hopefully under the dome can get some good conspiracy stuff going soon. All the action in Jericho doesn't hurt either. If you're gonna be dumb, at least have some good action.

Haven't read the book, but I think I'm out. I want to like it, but just can't get into it at all. Wife is still enjoying it, so it'll be on in the background on Monday nights.

This show is, like, totally schizo!
It's been a big disappointment so far, but there's not much else on to watch, so I'll stick with it. But as it currently stands, I don't really care about it getting a second season anymore.
Next week...

Still doing well... but dropping...
Under the Dome once again dome-inated the Monday ratings, even while sustaining a second week of declines.
CBS’ summertime surprise drew 10.6 million total viewers while scoring a 2.7 demo rating — again besting its broadcast competitors combined, yet down 10 percent and two tenths week-to-week and now off some 20 percent from its boffo debut.

This episode wasn't as bad as #2, but still not great. I'll keep watching. Like others have said, all the teen angst stuff is getting in the way. I'm starting to think that's their target audience with the show... and they really need to kill of Angie in the next episode. I think the "tough guy" kid that showed up at the "power party" will turn out to be one of Junior's friends from the book. I'm not sure if that was already hinted at. Also, do people really call their generators a "genny?" It sounded so dumb when one of the teens said that.

Alright, I have to admit all the scenes with the kids are pretty freaking bad. The episode just screeches to a halt. Pretty eye rolling, especially hearing that Asian stoner dude speak. Some of his dialogue between the kids is horrendous.
The plot that I don't mind and seems to have potential, but isn't really going anywhere is Linda being the only cop left in town. She's young and inexperienced and is having a really hard time trying to keep order.
It's only 3 episodes in, but I'm a little surprised how the towns people are just casually going through their days and not really taking the phenomenon of the dome a little more seriously.
So Junior went to the underground tunnels to see if there was a way out. And I thought it was funny that Julia followed him all the way there and conveniently had a box of matches with her. And really? They got lost so fast?
I was actually a little offended at the scene at the diner when the black mother of that same sex couple asked the 2 old men if they have seen her daughter. Then the old man made some really ignorant remark. What is this 1985?
Hopefully next week as the preview alluded to, we get to see more of the town going crazy and more of Linda struggling to keep order.

The stuff with the kids is cringeworthy (I was laughing it up at the seizure scene), but at least they look like they're teenagers, and not a bunch of people in their mid-twenties.
The underground tunnels was a great setting for a nice suspenseful sequence, but instead we got a couple people walking along with a match having light conversation.

You'd think there'd be crowds of people gathered outside the dome fascinated by it as well as friends and relatives of the people stuck inside it trying to communicate with them. You'd also think there'd be a bigger military and media presence outside the dome. I'm also surprised at how calm most of the townsfolk are most of the time as if their situation was normal.
