All in all, I was wholly unimpressed with this episode. I really hope they turn it around, but my excitement is dwindling. It's just not as compelling as it should be because the production is too glossy. It should have been a cable show with a much darker atmosphere. Although since we're only a couple days in, the darker stuff still does have time to surface.
I was stunned at how bad the second episode was after a strong premiere episode. If the second episode is more representative of the series' tone and typical quality, I don't think I will last more than a few episodes.

Hackneyed writing and a ridiculous plot development in the sudden craziness of the unnamed sheriff. I have to assume we'll find out the dome makes certain people go crazy, like the psychotic boyfriend.

I really liked the pilot, but it has already started devolving into Jericho territory.

Isn't this only 13 episodes?

If ratings continue to stay good, they plan to do another season.

Lame. I was interested when I though I read they announced a shift from regular series to limited series

It could be the situation rather than the dome per se.

I was kind of hoping to American Horror Story this sucker and have the dome fill with deadly gas just as they're about to escape. Or just run out of oxygen.

I think ep 2 showed that the dome allows small amounts of moisture through.
Probably lets air in and out too.

If it's not perfectly permeable, the dome has to be a massive heat sink or they're going to start cooking in there, though I doubt the writers have considered that.

Just something I noticed.
Dammit. Ever since you mentioned this I've constantly been on the lookout for swaying trees in the background. (There were more last night.) Since they've now established that the dome acts like a sieve, there must be some gale force winds blowing outside.

If the dome allows air to pass, then why doesn't sound pass through? Am I overthinking this? Should we just accept that this is some magical dome that does whatever it wants?

I would just accept the things related to the dome as a hand wave by the writers. They never really explained the internal workings of the smoke monster on Lost, I doubt we get a technical explanation for what the dome exactly does to everything.

Why does a muffler muffle, while letting the exhaust gas out of an engine?

Please tell me there's at least an animated GIF of the preacher starting the fire.

The whole fire scene was ridiculous, but they did say the reverend was high as a kite. People have done worse than that.

The quality is going down. Fast.

The fire scene was laughable at best.

I'm trying to find a positive thing of this second episode... can anyone help me? (not being sarcastic here)

Dean Norris is good. Huge improvement on the character in the book, who was a one-note "mustache twirling" villain.

I'm trying really hard not to think of his Breaking Bad character when watching the show.

It's alright, he finds some purple minerals in the next episode with the help of his dog Marie.

Rough, low quality, and well... yeah. Took about 20 minutes to throw it together.

After this 2nd episode, I'm going to have a difficult time not calling this show "Under The Dumb".

Surprising that Brian K. Vaughn is behind this, as he's one of the better comic book writers out there, and as far as I'm concerned, the 3rd best the medium has had (after Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman).

I hadn't thought about the wind, I will have to look for it. One could argue that since objects bounce off the dome, the wind that was captured inside when the dome suddenly appeared would just bounce around indefinitely. Of course it would be filled with smoke and farts, so you'd definitely know when it was coming.

Edit: come to think of it, maybe that is the explanation for the smoke monster.

Re: Stephen King's Under The Dome - Spielberg Produced - CBS

The show may or may not follow the book but in a nutshell, the story (as another Member astutely put) is about society cut off from the rest of the world. That's it... It's another typical case of Kings stories should be appreciated for the marathon rather than the finish line. That said, CBS will probably hatchet this and turn it into five season long shadow of Lost.
