your last comment is why i don't think it's fake. i mean, someone was either a collector of that guy, or it was his own locker. what sense would it make to plant that much valuable shit?

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I think people also assume that the producers tamper with the lockers ahead of time because of the occasional taped-over logos and brand names on some items in the lockers. What they seem to forget, though, is that the show is not taped in real time. It would be entirely possible for the crew to look in the locker when it is opened (along with the bidders), see some brand information that needs to be masked out, and go in and tape over it, either before the bidders look in, or after. Then, through the magic of editing, it all looks like one seamless shot.

For example, on one of the recent (last week?) episodes of Texas, there was a washer-dryer set in one of the lockers with the brand/model info taped over.

If I read Darrell's tweats correctly it was basically put away by the guys ex wife she "sort" of hid/stole it from him.

That's pushing it in some of these cases. The one that Dave overpaid for, he was overvaluing a lot of things including a POS oven for $40. Seemed to me he was putting a higher value on things so his loss wouldn't look so bad.

Of course, the links posted earlier in this thread had reviews from people who almost unanimously said the stuff in his stores (that are now closed) were way overpriced.

Which is probably why he's doing the lawsuit so he can try and re-coop some losses.

I wonder if this episode will put a stop to the "planted" items bullshit. I mean, why would producers plant hundreds of thousands of dollars of artwork, when they could just plan some stupid single item for a few thousand.

So you just happen to think every episode they just out of sheer luck happen to find at least 2 items that need to be not only appraised but by appraisers who have given permission to be filmed. I don't think the stuff for Darrell was planted he either just hit a jackpot sheer luck find or maybe he bit on those items in a unit when he wasn't filming at a diff auction and he gave them permission to recreate it.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

The producers admitted in a statement (I saw on Inside Edition) to taking items from other lockers and puting them into other lockers. They have access to all the available storage lockers that are due to be auctioned. They take the best items from all available lockers to be used for filming. It's clearly manipulated. They rationalize it that it comes from storage lockers so it's no problem. But what if you bought lottery tickets that were like these lockers. I want those for sure!

They probably script who gets each auction of the main cast members. You can see why! They wouldn't want the seeded stuff going to non regulars.

Dan and Laura have said they are not the ones manipulating it. They own the auction company. Its the producers.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I enjoy the show and have my love/hate thing going for it. Either way, it entertains me but how in the hell does one think these lockers aren't manipulated? A locker full of garbage bags full of clothes and junk and then they discover dinosaur teeth are also in the locker? That's really fucking random.

Here's the quote:
http://www.realityblurred.com/realit...ging-scripting
“Nope. I can honestly tell you that the stuff found in those containers are found in storage containers. Now what I will tell you this: We have 20, 30 auctions, and so occasionally maybe one piece shows for one auction container, storage locker to another, you know, but that’s as far as we’ll go. That’s, I think, important.”
Here's the video the quote comes from, where the producer also talks about scripting the talking head segments. The video was originally recorded June 18, 2012

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

Obviously it's staged to a point.

I will say this though, if I ever put stuff in a locker and it went to auction, there would be a huge assortment ranging from crap to valuable.

Question? Is it normal for the locker business owners to pick over units for valuables before putting them up for auction? I don't see much point of going to these auctions if that is the case, and whether it's the owners or a TV show producer pulling valuables to seed his show's units doesn't make much of a difference.

I always assumed the units were untouched, but on the other hand it seems like an easy way for the owners to make money on both ends.

No, in fact if you read online most of these storage locker sales are pretty strictly regulated by state laws, so normally the blind auction is the only way that they can go about selling the items inside.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I figured out there was staging in the "Hooray for Holly-Weird" episode. At the end, when the main characters were all pranked with the whoopie cushion, you could see Brandi delivering a line complaining about Jarrod turning the store into a dump or something. It was really obvious they were recording dialogue, not a genuine conversation. That was when it really became obvious.

Anybody catch the debut of Storage Wars: New York?

The one thing it has going for it is that they have a girl/girl team. They also have a guy that seems like a cross between Barry and Dave, though he's not quite the ass that Dave is.

After watching the first two episodes, I'd have to put this one in between the original and Texas. Texas is OK, but just feels like a rehash of the original. This one at least feels a little different, though it's still a Storage Wars show.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I watched it last night, I think the redhead is kinda cute... I'm on board for a little while to see if it grow on me... it wasnt bad, but nothing special, would probably put the trio of storage auction 'shows" on A&E above the similar offerings on Spike (which really got old for me quick) and the one on TRU (why must EVERY show on that channel be populated by unlikeable characters...)

Amazingly After initially liking shipping wars and then souring on it, Im back on board with it recently

Barter Kings just pissed me off, but will check it out since they added some eye candy to the show

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I just found Barter Kings hard to swallow because they basically had to find people to make a losing deal, since they were trading up, and it always seemed to work out. Plus, they are based in the High Desert region of California (Victorville/Hesperia) where there aren't THAT many people. If they were in LA or OC I might buy it.

I wasn't expecting to like the NY spin-off but I thought it was good. None of the characters are too annoying (Like Lesa and Dave from their respective shows).

I'm not feeling the NY edition so far. But then again I didn't like the first season of the TX one ....but its now my favorite with its cast adjustments for season 2.

'Storage Wars' Star Commits Suicide Days After Drug Arrest

"Storage Wars" star Mark Balelo killed himself today by carbon monoxide poisoning ... TMZ has learned.

Multiple sources close to Balelo tell us he was found dead in his car ... which was parked and running in the garage at his auction house in Simi Valley, CA.

According to our sources, Balelo had been arrested for a drug-related offense on Saturday.

We're told when Balelo got out of jail he was distraught, and asked his fiancée to come over because he was afraid he might hurt himself.

We're told they met at his office on Sunday, they talked for a few hours, he took a 4 hour nap -- and when he woke up seemed better.
The fiancée left Balelo at the office Sunday evening. We're told one of Balelo's employees found his body Monday morning.

Balelo appeared on a handful of "Storage Wars" episodes over the past few seasons.

Law enforcement sources tell us an autopsy will be conducted tomorrow.
