Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion
They're paid $10K per episode. So even with Barry over bidding and throwing the stuff away it's not his money he's playing with so I'm sure he doesn't care. It's not like he depends on having to sell the stuff to pay the light bill. That's probably why Darrell doesn't buy a lot. He'd rather just put the money in his pocket and not have to deal with trying to move the junk.

BTW, what the fuck was that thing Barry was driving? Was pretty cool.

Huh? I don't know that I've ever seen him really "pushed around." In fact, I used to think it was the complete opposite.

It's funny that Dave realized it's cheaper to go to auctions that AREN'T featured on the show, too.

The segment at the cemetery was the most obviously scripted Barry scene yet, and the guy who worked with him was an atrocious actor.
That was quite a find for Dave. Shame not one stock was worth anything.

Yeah, the show never really showed him being pushed around. He was just a normal warehouse worker who's job is to unload stuff, so i'm not sure what the problem is. Probably something else personal and he took it out on camera.

I don't get why you continue to think these things are anything but scripted. Of course they are. And the guy at the cemetery might've been an atrocious actor because, you know, he was a guy who worked at a cemetery!

Barry's schtick is the only reason I still watch the show regularly, even if its a little stilted. The Darrell/Brandon BS has run its course, though.

He's just jealous because nobody liked him as Dave's replacement in the last few episodes.

Well as fake as Storage Wars is getting, Barter Kings is already there. This show is a joke. Did anyone see the 7/11 episode? At one point in the trade, Antonio swapped a drum kit for an ultralight plane. The guy who wanted to drumkit claimed he hadn't played in 15 years, but watching him play, and knowing how to play myself, I can tell you that guy has never played in his life.
Plus these women who scotch the deals? Baaaaaaaaaad acting.

I don't know why you say that about Barter Kings. Why just yesterday I traded a used stick of chewing gum for an island in Fiji, complete with house and servants.

We see a tiny fraction of their day-to-day business operations so maybe Jarrod is a complete jerk to him. Wouldn't surprise me.

I really enjoy Darrell's nonsensical sayings. He reminds me of a white-trash Winnie the Pooh. No need for the "drama" between him and brandon.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion
The Dave "add-in" segment played out real bad I thought. I know he was going through contract negotiations before this season so maybe this episode was in the can and they just edited the Dave stuff in later. I hope they go back to the whole gang at one auction.

It would be nice to see what his actual business is, because while they play like he's in this only for the collectables and rarities, he buys units based on things like sofas and power tools just like Brandi and Jarrod, so he's probably in a similar business as the rest of the crew. That just doesn't suit his "character" on the show to showcase that element of his character.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion
Barry is just a rich guy looking for collectibles. He has no real need to make a profit on the units. I believe they mentioned in an episode that they pay someone to pick up the trash in the lockers they don't want and bring it to a dump.

It wouldn't surprise me if "the guys" is code for "the guys the show hires as part of my deal to clean up behind me."

This interview was posted earlier in the thread:
Actually, I've been an antique collector my entire life, and I was in the produce business for 20‑25 years, and I retired about four years ago. I just was traveling around the world and enjoying life, really. The way this opportunity came along was a close friend of mine, Thom Beers, who is the creator of the show, was over one night. I don't know, we were having a few drinks. He said he was working on something with these storage lockers, and would I like to be a part of it? And basically that's sort of how things unfolded.

I was in the area today and stopped by Brandy & Jarrod's store. It had one of the most amazing bed frames I ever saw.

You can see the metal frame over the bed, connecting the four posts. Those posts were as thick as telephone poles. I asked if it came from a locker but they said it wouldn't be on TV.

That helps.Ever since I found out how much these folks get paid I laugh whenever Brandi yells at Jarrod about overbidding by $100. Actors all of em!

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion
If that were true then you might be justified, but the fact is that no one outside of the show itself knows for sure what they make. I've seen rumors anywhere from $50000/season to $25000/episode. I would imagine that the actual number is somewhere in between those figures, but just where is anybody's guess.

It doesn't matter, this gravy train can't run forever, so she doesn't want him to develop bad habits. And accounting rules may prevent them from using SW pay in their store.
And besides, she's doing what every wife does: tries to stop her dumbass husband from wasting money. Although that old episode where she "negotiated" Sheets from $1200 to $1100 was kinda pathetic.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion
I've always wondered why Jarrod and Brandi don't make a deal with Barry to buy his leftovers, at a much discounted price of course. He seems to like them and that would be a win-win for both and they don't even need to show it on TV.
