They likely limit it by only making the auction known to a select group of people. That is my guess anyways.

Seems as if anything they signed sold for some decent bucks on their "completed" auctions.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

How come whenever these guys find a dresser in a locker they say "that's 50 bucks right there" no matter how crappy it looks, but then only Barry was willing to bid $2.50 on a locker with nothing but a dresser in it?

And yeah, I'm sure these guys mark up everything in their shops that was seen on the show.

Crappy dressers at a thrift store are like $5-10.

Or they would had to haul it and don't have a truck.

Or it's just crappy.

I liked when Darrel was going through his unit and he said he could get $1,000 for 4 used outdoor bar stools.

Anybody else watch Shipping Wars? I actually liked it, could be interesting to see how they ship some of this stuff.

Yeah, those are good rational reasons (save for the truck, as they all have trucks except Barry), but just proves the nonsense of their valuation of lockers they win.

They don't always bring trucks with them, or they might just have a normal truck (not a huge one for hauling) and they simply can't fit a dresser in with the rest of the stuff they bought. Or the man power to buy, life etc. is simply not worth it. Some of these guys travel pretty far to each auction and hauling a dresser to make $40-50 profit may not be worth it.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

Hester left with an empty truck and trailer and Darrell would have had plenty of room. These guys always seem tickled pink to make $100 or even break even off a $1500 investment that would cause a lot more hassle for them then hauling a single dresser and chucking a couple car seats.

I think you're right, all the episodes blend into each other in my mind and I can't remember who did what.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

Yea the furniture is always over valued that is one of my main issues that and some of those lockers are salted I don't care what anyone says.

Who pays $300 for a used couch with someone elses DNA spread all over it?

Hester is needed for the show and they will realize it. I got no issue with him trying to get a better deal. I hope they all get one. IMHO we an do without Nabila or whatever her name is...

And the Storage Wars: Unlocked special was very insightfull into the show it made me enjoy it even better. No way will I watch the abortion Texas shitoff spinoff.

Isn't that his nickname anointed by the show, like how Barry is "The Collector"?

I think the show will be better without Hester on it. He's humorless and arrogant and there is zero drama once he sets his eyes on a locker he likes. And all of his branded shit (the hats, shirts, truck, etc.) needs to go. I get that he serves as the show's villain, but he doesn't have enough of a spark/personality (like Nabila and her "fuck 'em all" attitude, which she sells way better than Hester) to balance out his asshole-ness.

And just caught the ep. where Barry gets the drums. The whole bit with Stewart Copeland was hilarious.

Copeland seemed cool as hell!!! Even though I think he screwed Barry out of that cymbal. After seeing hotwheels go for $75 bucks because they're signed by Jerrod and Brandi, I wonder how much Barry could get for those drums if he signed them, too.

Heck Brandi should start selling her underwear. I'm sure that would sell.

I agree. It feels that Dave is trying to become bigger than the show. The only one who can pull off their own show is Barry. Just have him travel around the country looking for his next big treasure, and you're set.

Dave is too much of a villian at this point. He's totally unlikeable. I don't think they can 'redeem' him for the average viewer now. They even had him 'adopt' a puppy to soften his image a while back, to no avail.

Nabila may be tough to deal with regarding business, but nothing suggests that she's without any redeeming qualities. She seems like she would be OK to be around outside of her work. Dave seems to be very insecure and mean-spirited, a bad mix for a TV character, even one on a reality show.

I've thought about this before and I think it's a great idea for a spinoff. He's said in the past he traveled the country and picked antiques so he's done it before. I'd definitely watch it.

I'm catching the Storage Wars: Unlocked special now and Dave is just even more of a dick. He takes "the business" way too seriously. He's making it like the auction buying is a business (which it's not -- no different than any other auction). His mentality is sad. I really hope they ditch him after this season especially after seeing Nabila in action last night.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

I dunno... I've seen Dave show some character. Like why he refused to carry katanas, or talking about his father. Dave strikes me as a businessman who is there to make money, not friends.

How is he no better than Darrell, who's just as big a prick and looks like someone who should be getting arrested on an episode of "COPS?" At least he runs a storefront and employs a lot of people.

He's had attempts at unsuccessful business. His thrift store turned in to a consignment gallery then in to an auction house. He's just as slimy who is a prick for being a prick. He said in the special that the reason he is like that is because he was hazed when he started going to auctions, but when they pointed out hazing is usually over after a week he had no response. He's just a prick.

Darrell does belong on an episode of Cops, I don't refute that. But he's not as annoying as Dave is.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

Dave's a douche. When I initially started watching the show, I actually thought the "Yuups" were funny, despite the fact I knew he was a dipshit. Ever since Barry gave him the cap with the "Yuuup", leading to the fucking trailer/truck/whatever with his little phrase plastered on it... christ.

I'm not surprised he's a little pain in the ass about his contract with the show. I really hope they stand their ground and tell him to fuck off... just wish I could see it on camera.
