One thing I missed the first time through ten years or so ago was that Garret Dillahunt played two different characters in consecutive seasons. Back then I had no idea who he was but now I recognized him immediately as McCall and was surprised to see that he was also Wolcott, even though I remembered both characters from the first viewing. Good actor, or bad memory? I'll go with good actor.
Spoiler:

well you are in for a treat when you watch the movie if you are a fan of Garrett. Tripple crown achievement!

I think he wasn't considered a "regular" player the first season. Don't know about Season 2, but Jones is listed in the opening credits for Season 3 (pretty much everyone is, as they goddam well should be).

Finally had the time to watch the movie tonight. Like others have said, outstanding. Went by so fast, I gasped when Al laid down his hand and it cut to black, felt like there was still more to come. The Trixie/Hearst story remained unresolved. He isn't just going to brush the mud off him the next morning, say "Fair enough" and leave town. But whatever, it was such an unexpected pleasure to get to return to these beloved characters all these years later. I'm glad it was just a two hour movie instead of a full series (I'm thinking of Twin Peaks The Return which quickly wore out its welcome for me).

Loved how Con took up the role of minister (presumably after Cy died, or maybe after the murder of his partner Leon).

I'm guessing the actress playing Sofia isn't the same one who played her as a child?

And I missed Garret Dillahunt, where was he in this?

No the actual Sofia never acted again after the show. Kind of a shame she couldn't reprise the role for this though, although it does not matter much really as she was somewhat minor player.

Garret is the guy that says something along the lines of "That man killed my father" toward the end of the movie in the scene where 'Bullock is escorting Hurst through town'. trying to avoid specifics here...

I would welcome more movies along the lines of Lonesome Dove which IIRC had movies spanning a few decades, not as much left unresolved as season three but it still feels slightly unfinished. I don't see that happening with Milch having Alzheimers.

Okay, I remember that part but didn't recognize the actor. I took it as a callback to the stabbed miner Merrick and the Blazanov found in the street, but I guess it also works as an in-joke about Wolcott's death by hanging in the street.

I finally got a chance to watch this tonight. Just absolutely fucking amazing. I really don't think I could have asked for anything more. The two hours just flew by and it was awesome seeing everyone again. It's crazy that it felt like they didn't skip a beat and the series has been on ever since. One of the best send-offs for one of the best TV shows in existence.

I think this was a great send off. I wouId have liked some sort of shootout at the end, like Hearst leaves but comes back with an army of henchmen and the whole gang defends the town but we've seen that a million times. Plus, they seemed to be kinda done with the Wild Wild West.

I actually recognized Dillahunt at the end. It took me a few seconds and I went "no way!" but yup, it was him!

Heads up, currently available to own on Amazon Video. $2 for SD and $3 for HD. That was good enough for me!

Saw this and liked. It was a little too short, imo. However, I think maybe the harsh ending was like Deadwood itself...harsh, terribly realistic, and wasn't out to impress anybody.

Re: Deadwood: The Movie (HBO) -- premieres 5/31/19

According to Blu-ray.com, this comes out on Blu-ray October 8th.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Deadw...9502/#Overview

Unfortunately, it's only 110 minutes, so it doesn't sound like it'll be an extended version.

W. Earl Brown had mentioned a 140 minute cut. I'd love to have that extra 1/2 hour.

Re: Deadwood: The Movie (HBO) -- premieres 5/31/19

I just finished rewatching the Deadwood series so I jumped straight into the movie after. Both my wife and I were a bit disappointed in the movie this time around. It played more like a double episode and left a lot of things hanging, like a beat-up Hearst in jail. I know Milch was in poor health and on the decline when this filmed but it really feels like a drop in quality over the prior seasons.

I also didn't like the character arc for some of the people. I mean Trixie was always a loopy c*** but her turn on the balcony was too over the top for someone that attempted murder and the baby brain excuse is stupid (as was a 49-year-old pregnant woman as a storyline.) Having Harry try to kill Seth someone he has worked with and known for decades to curry favor with Hearst also seemed really half-assed. I know the series plays fast and loose with history, why would Aunt Lou have stayed on in town? how did the buffon from the other saloon, Con Stapleton become a minister? I can't say I enjoyed it nearly as much as I recall liking it the first few viewings.
