I enjoyed the second episode as well. Not as strong as the first, but still pretty solid. FYI, Martin Freeman (Watson) was cast as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

I nearly didn't watch this show, because I didn't really care for the other modernization Moffat did (Jekyll), but this was awesome. I really cannot wait for the next set of shows.

Finished the last one of the three myself tonight. This series is really well done. Shame we only got three episodes. I was skeptical at first, but this is pretty faithful to the characters of the books . Ritchie's movie was fun to me, but little more than light entertainment. This kept you thinking.

I saw the first ep finally and it put me to sleep. Mainly cause I was dead fucking tired. It was good for what I saw. Though the part with the killer revealing everything went forever. I gotta see it again...

Same here. I loved the pilot. The 2nd episode was a bit of a drop off. But the 3rd was the best of the lot.
As for Guy Richie's movie, thats not Sherlock Holmes. Its a fun popcorn movie about a Victorian era John McClane. But Sherlock Holmes it is not.

I finished the first series a few days ago. I wasn't impressed by the second episode, but I loved the third. The twist with Moriaty was perfect and really makes me excited for the second series. Sucks we have to wait another year though.

I am a huge fan of the Jeremy Brett version of Sherlock, and I really enjoyed this new series (I like that they have almost the exact same layout of Sherlock's apartment as in Brett's series).
I hope they are able to keep Martin Freeman involved, since he's probably going to be busy with The Hobbit soon. And I hope they do more than 3 episodes next season.
For those interested, an interview with the creators about the second series: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...ond-series-bbc

No...
But that Moriarty guy is fucking creepy. He looked weird in John Adams but DAMN when he was making those faces I was creeped out. He acted a bit TOO gay at times though. And fuck that cliff hanger!

Inspired by Sherlock cleaning up at the BAFTA's (UK's Emmys) Just watched the entire series on Netflix.
Verdict:
First Episode - absolutely terrific. Perfect start to the show
Middle Episode - a little weak and surprisingly racist but still pretty good
Last episode - back to absolutely terrific with a great cliffhanger. Actually, I'd rate this up there with a few episodes of the Sopranos and maybe Lonesome Dove as one of the best hour plus of TV dramas I've ever seen.
Overall, this is great TV. I can't believe I didn't watch it in first run.

Are the US DVD/Blu-ray releases the full versions, or the PBS edits?

I saw on Ian McKellan's blog that Martin Freeman is on hiatus from The Hobbit so he can go back to England and shoot the next set of these.
