Re: Sherlock (BBC/PBS) Series Thread
As an FYI for those of you (like me) who chose to wait for the U.S. premiere, check your DVRs -- mine has Sherlock listed under "Masterpiece Mystery!" and so would not have recorded "Sherlock" had I not corrected things.

We're watching it on PBS. So we just saw S3E1. We both enjoyed it.
We laughed at the reference to slash fanfic.

I wasn't aware that PBS cut the previous seasons. We watched them on Netflix. Now I'm glad we did.
PBS did pad the broadcast out to two hours by adding interviews with the actors. That suggests that they didn't cut anything. According to a couple of people at the bottom of this page, it was the same as the BBC version.

Loved the season opener. All of the alternate theories as to how Holmes survived was great. Only problem I had was that this ep. seemed to slip into self-parody a bit.

It may already have been mentioned in this thread but the actors playing Sherlock & Moriarty's parents are Cumberbatch's real life mum & dad: Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham.

Last night's ep was pretty good, even though it did play like a highlight reel at times.
And they teased us w/ a brief appearance of The Lady.

I am amazed at the how great Sherlock is...watched the Wedding Ep tonight.
Laughed most of the show, everything was tied together really well.
-Sherlock's toast may have been on the funniest things I seen in a long time. It went on and on, very well written.

I thought the thought labels when Sherlock was drunk were hysterical.

1,000% agree, did not catch it at first, then I started to catch them as they were going by really fast.
-The whold drunk crime scene was perfect
"Don't tamper with the crime scene...ugh" (had me laughing out loud again and I was in the room by myself.

Re: Sherlock (BBC/PBS) Series Thread
We're watching this series in PBS as well.
I enjoyed the second ep more than the first. First was too jarring. Maybe it was the 2 year break. Likewise, the scene transitions in the second for the marching and the conversation between Holmes and Mycroft were really dizzying. I get what they were going after, but would skip them.
Was "the lady" the woman who popped up in the court room and he dismissed her? It was quick, but I thought it was Irene Adler.

Re: Sherlock (BBC/PBS) Series Thread
Second ep. was really good, and funnier than most series that are actually comedies. I was disappointed that Holmes didn't hook up with the cute bridesmaid, he seemed legitimately interested . I have read the "Sign of Four" novel, and they did a good job of working in homages to the source, and kept the murderer's identity in tact.
This ep. seemed like it could work well as a series finale, especially with the end scene. However, given the immense popularity of this show, I don't see it happening. The one work I hope they find a way to adapt is Speckled Band. I would love to see that one modernized.

Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary...
I knew what Holmes was going to do, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Moffat's shitting writing is at it again. That last episode was ridiculous. I was happy when it was confined to Dr.Who but now.. Sigh, who knows what the future holds.

What do you mean, specifically? I know the plots/stories can get more than a little obtuse, but I like the writing of the characters and their dialog.

Re: Sherlock (BBC/PBS) Series Thread
I just thought it was ridiculous how out of the blue John's wife is magically a CIA trained killer who this seasons big bad has info on. And it just felt sloppy how Sherlock killed him and then the reveal as to why the government needed him back. Plus the whole thing about a "mind palace" felt pretty lazy imho.
