re: MasterChef (FOX) -- Gordon Ramsey -- Series Thread

Nice finale....it would be nice for a follow up from this past season to start off the next season. I would like to see what happens with the top 4 people over the next year. One would think they would be offered jobs in some of the top restaurants in the US or even abroad.

Well if chefs from Hell's Kitchen don't even get jobs in the top restaurants in the US or abroad I don't think nobodies with culinary kills will get that opportunity.

Told you guys. I could see this ending coming from a mile away. It was a real underdog victory wasn't it? Typical Fox. Sharone or Lee deserved that MasterChef title and everyone knows it.

I love how they had recipes - in every episode where they would pan really quickly over their prep area and you could see a piece of paper with a script/recipe on it. What a stupid show. No way those people knew how to make a souffle from scratch!

Anyways I like Whitney, but her fried chicken seemed so utterly lackluster. It's DINER food and one of the judges said that himself! Not a chef, but a quick diner cook. Anyways, Sharone or Lee clearly have way more talent and creativity.

Masterchef competitors are pure amateur cookers – HOME COOKERS and none of them went to culinary schools or had any experience in restaurant kitchen like Hell Kitchen and Top Chef does. So, I sort of expected them to look in recipe to make something.

Yeah, I would expect them to have recipes, how else would they compete?

But a few of them talked about how they had been to culinary school.

The show made no sense. From the advertising I thought it was strictly home cooks. Then on the first episode they are criticizing the contestants about not having professional techniques. Then we start hearing about culinary school?

MasterChef -- The 2nd Season Thread -- Premieres 6/06/11 on FOX

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
By djariya at 2011-06-06

After conducting a nationwide search, 100 of the best amateur cooks in America, including a police officer, an oil rig engineer, an interior designer, a forklift operator, a professional poker player, a classical pianist and a tattoo shop owner, were flown to Los Angeles in the hopes of becoming the next MASTERCHEF and walking away with the life-changing grand prize. The hopefuls will prepare their signature dishes and present them to judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot. The amateur cooks will be put through the paces, and only the most deserving among them will win the coveted white apron and move on to the next round of the competition in the "Audition #1" season premiere episode of MASTERCHEF airing Monday, June 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (MCH-201) (TV-14 D, L)

Judges: Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot

Anyone up for the 2nd season starting tonight? Last year was tough because they decided to air this show on 2 hour blocks every week and honestly I got a little burned out especially watching Top Chef, 2 hours of Hell's Kitchen every week and then 2 hours of this.

This season it's airing Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm in only 1 hour blocks.

Looking at the preliminary schedule, this looks like it will be airing until the end of July.

Still a fan of Gordon Ramsay, so I will definitely be back tonight.

This one was just too repetitive for me so I'll be passing.

I forgot how formulaic this show was, but I will watch pretty much anything with Gordon Ramsay. Oh, and if that alligator cooking guy's nickname isn't 'Skeeter' I'll eat my hat.

Re: MasterChef -- The 2nd Season Thread -- Premieres 6/06/11 on FOX

That was actually really good. It wasn't as cheesy and sappy as the 1st audition episode last season.

I think Gordon, Joe and Graham offered really articulate opinions on the food. Joe is still kind of a dick, but he does own 24 restaurants.

at the guy who brought his hot red headed girlfriend as a body sushi model.

I'm not familiar with Scottish food at all, but the Haggis actually looked good.

at the Hill Billy who cooked gator meat and flashed the tattoo on his ass.

Thought this was a lot better than last season's premiere. They still had the schmaltz, but it seemed to be toned down. Some of the food looked really good.

Me, too. Drama much?

The mix of judges is one thing I like about the show, though. You've got the hardass bald dude, the fat guy that likes everything, and Gordon as the wildcard.

I'm out. At the end of last season, I felt I'd wasted countless hours of my life following it. The pacing and formula ultimately did nothing for me. At least with Hell's Kitchen the bumbling egos and personalities make it fun to watch.

I thought it was great. I'm a sucker for most things Ramsay related. My only gripe with the show is Graham Elliot. I've eaten at his resturant twice and it sucked both times. ARGH! The man charges $16.00 for a scallop appetizer...and its only one scallop!

...but aside from that I find this show very entertaining . I loved the heavy equipment operator with the alligator stew.

Re: MasterChef -- The 2nd Season Thread -- Premieres 6/06/11 on FOX

2nd episode was good too.

I liked the quirky Asian guy who made the Hawaiian plate lunch with the uncoventional technique. His cooking style kind of reminded me of Richard Blais on Top Chef.

at the guy who made Red Neck and flipped out after he got rejected. All it looked like was chicken and rice wrapped up in a cucumber. I saw Gordon and Joe made a big mess trying to eat it.

I liked how Joe got so frustrated with the inferior dishes that he had to walk out to the kitchen to inspire the cooks.

One thing that annoys me is when people beg. I didn't like that female Asian lawyer begging and then getting the apron. Either you make an immediate impression or you don't.

I'm watching because I can't get enough Ramsay, even as boring as this show can be. I hate watching Graham shovel food into his mouth. I love how he seems to have plumped up between seasons, rather than shed a few pounds.

Gordon's lame faux-elimination scenes always make me cringe...

"It's a "no" from me... to that apron! Put this one on!"

Oy.

That guy kills my gf and I every time. His look... I half expect him to pull out a gun and shoot someone.

Re: MasterChef -- The 2nd Season Thread -- Premieres 6/06/11 on FOX

Did anyone watch last night?

It was the last audition episode before the Top 38 compete tonight. Thought it was pretty good again. I'm liking alot of these amateur chefs. I was impressed with the Indian girl at the beginning. Normally I don't care for Indian cuisine, but her dish actually looked good.

at the guy wearing the Pumpkin hat and apron and forgetting the put his main ingredient. Surprised to see him go through on his dish without it.

I really liked the Italian guy from Chicago who in his profile was talking to his mother in Italy.

The audition episodes were actually really entertaining this season. Not alot of sappy crying episodes from last season. Plus, I think we got to see alot of really good looking home dishes.

The only thing that is annoying is how the episodes are edited and the long pauses in the decision-making.

Re: MasterChef -- The 2nd Season Thread -- Premieres 6/06/11 on FOX

The judges ate the secret ingredient after all. The Italian judge grabbed a bunch of the pumpkin chips for all 3 to try before they decided.

I was surprised overall that the lady with the sweet meatballs didn't go through. I'm genuinely curious to try those myself. Who would ever think of putting pound cake in meatballs?
