Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

Frank has been my pick to win from the beginning, but I think he made himself look bad. Yes, it's a competition, so you should have said you'd save yourself from the beginning.

Never cared for David's personality, especially when he would get on the defensive on the group tasks, like the lunchwagon. However, his comments about Frank as he left were so generous and unresentful (after having Frank say he would save Josh). Bet Frank felt even more shitty after that.

I think those ads are great. I love the early one at Southfork ranch, where the customers are all morbidly obese, missing teeth and can barely speak a complete sentence.

I also like a later one where they wheel some racks of clothes into someone's house. There's some fat piece of white trash modeling some hideous plus sized blouse,"I could wear this with anything!"

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

Seriously I was LOL when Josh got mad when Frank didn't save him. Of course Frank was talking out of his ass when Gordon asked him that hypothetical.

Despite David's shortcomings, I'm happy that he got something out of this competition and Graham out of the goodness of his heart offered him a job. Of course he's going to start out as an entry level line cook, but at least he will have the chance to learn and improve his cooking skills.

I like Christine alot, but the realistic final 2 IMO has to be Becky and Frank.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

Did anyone watch last week's episode?

I just got caught up with the last 2 weeks and that challenge with the 3 souffles was ridiculous. I mean 3 in one hour was almost impossible.

Really surprised that Frank got eliminated. I honestly thought that the final was going to be between him and Becky. Becky seems to be falling off as well.

Christine has bounced back after a few down weeks. She kicked ass in the Sashima replication challenge. It really shows how strong her palette is despite her handicap.

Oh and what was the point of Graham mentioning that the POTUS and those other celebrities ate his dishes? Who gives a fuck?

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

Ah, damn, my boy Frank finally bites the dust. I knew he was a goner just from the lead-up, but I hoped maybe they'd let him through. Josh had some beautiful looking souffles, though.

I think this has to be Christine's to lose. Who wants to beat out the blind chick, especially this late in the game?

Final will be Becky vs. Christine.

Based on the reaction of the judges, Becky is probably the better cook of the three. However, they've given her no "story" as I recall. Having watched enough of these things, usually an emotional story gives a contestant an edge. Also, -to be pefectly crass, -the "blind" thing is a great promotional "angle" outside the contest.

Note: I did a little looking, and First Season winner Whitney Miller has one cookbook published (co-authored by Gordon Ramsey) and Season Two winner Jennifer Behm (I had to look that up) has none, but they are going to publish a general "Master Chef" book with recipes from the winners and the judges later this year.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

As soon as I heard what the challenge was, I knew Frank was toast. Sucks, because I truly believe if the challenge had been somethign else, that Frank would have beat Josh. I don't see Josh going to the finals. Becky and Christine in the finals, and it is all going to come down to what task they give them. As long as it isnt too presentation oriented, I think Christine has a very good chance of winning.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

Nice to see Christine make it to the final 2. Her fried chicken looked amazing.

Josh deserved to make it based on his creativity. He's been doing pretty well since he returned to the competition.

As I said in a previous post, Becky was sort of falling off and I think she was losing confidance.

Did Gordon offer Becky something at the end? It sounded like he offered her a chance to learn from one of his kitchens.

I think it's bullshit though that Graham offers David Martinez a staff job at one of his restaurants, but Frank and Becky don't get squat from any of them. Their cooking skills far surpassed David's.

Unless Josh just chokes in the finale, I'm pretty sure he will take it. Christine is the sweetheart and underdog, but I just don't see her having the creativity to take it. I love her and hope she does win though.

I've been impressed with Josh's efforts the last two episodes, I have a feeling he'll win.

But everyone is right, Christine has the better skills outside this show in order to have a successful cookbook. She's attractive, has a nice personality, and the blindness makes her a real curiosity. I can see her going on Ellen, The View, Rosie all those shows doing a little cooking segment. If handled right she could actually sell a lot of cookbooks. If they're smart, they'll make a special announcement at the end that second place is also given a book.

I remember he said that the door was open...
"I've got a few restaurants, trust me, each and every one of those doors are open whether it's in the center of Europe, Paris, New York -- I don't care. It's always open any time you wish. You have a gift and you should be in the food industry," Gordon explained.

If I were Becky, I would take that offer seriously and contact him ASAP about getting some kind of Internship at one of those places. Having that on her resume will definitely help her career.

Christine is so obviously going to win the entire thing. I don't care if she goes out next week and shits on a plate in front of Gordon and calls it corn puddin', she's been the winner from the beginning. Blind chef cookbook: that's cash $$$ right there.

Pick it up at Walmart this fall!

Yup, and seemed to me like they blatantly gave her that reward challenge win to help her out... Josh's dish looked and sounded much better and all the judges seemed really impressed with it.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

The only problem with Christine's cookbook is she doesn't seem to use conventional measurements often... her method of 'just adding stuff here and there in small amounts until it tastes good' might be hard to make into a recipe for someone else to follow.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

I'm sure they'll have someone break it down to real amounts for the book.

I don't see it calling for "half a small Asian woman's handful of paprika" or something.

There's no way Christine isn't going to win. No way. Like RobLutter said, Blind Chef Cookbook = $$$$$.

I confess I've only been around a couple blind folks all at work so I'm certainly no expert. I admit when she appears to look up at others and the like it does make me think she has at least some sight. I've not paid attention but have they ever said if she has a portion of her sight??

I figured she was legally blind.

Re: MasterChef -- Season 3 Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (FOX)

She said in one of the first episodes that she could see and had a degenerative eye disease that was causing her blindness.

I have noticed that she makes eye contact with the camera when being interviewed, so it is possible she is legally blind, but can still see to some degree (shadows, etc...)

That makes sense. Even as cynical as I am, I still wish her well.

She can see shadows. In the interview I read, she described it as similar to looking into the steamed-up bathroom mirror after you've just taken a shower.

I don't remember her being bleeped in previous episodes. Maybe they've softened her in the editing, but she seemed a little saltier this time.
