I think that they were going for a ripped from the headlines thing about the kid shot some of his classmates with a gun that his parents bought him for Christmas. The parents have been charged in that case, but in the episode it looked bad that a kid who has obvious issues getting a pass on murder so the lawyers could make a political stance.

That's the first thing I do when I watch an episode, -try to guess the real recent case they're basing it on and how they'll doctor it. I'll admit that's why I stopped watching back about season 5. I'm watching the re-boot out of nostalgia. It's a bit of a shadow of the old show, though.

SVU is the only one worth watching at this point. OC is laughably bad (I heard it will be more like SVU next season instead of these long arcs) and the mothership is poorly written.

Say what you will about CSI Stabler, but it’s the only show on TV where you’ll see a 60 yr old ride the fuck out of a motorcycle.

You have to watch OC as a comedy because it's the funniest show on television

I know it’s late but there should have been a meme of Dylan McDermott’s head on Aquaman’s body.

Re: Law & Order -- Series Discussion Thread

I like how the lawyer side lately is basically just

Jack: Lays out key points of why Price shouldn’t take the case to trial and just offer a deal

Price: I can win this

Jack: Well if you think so

Re: Law & Order -- Series Discussion Thread

This one was just boring. Pretty dull story to begin with, and the "twist" usually reserved for the court side of the episode didn't make it any more interesting.

This reboot, whatever, isn't very good. I expect Wolf to dump half the characters for Season 2.

I didn’t get that one either. Why was the DNA thrown out? Where was the victim’s family, friends and coworkers? The whole case seemed strange.

Yes, but if that was the case anything offered voluntarily could be thrown out after the fact.

I'm no Lionel Hutz, but no. You could say "I did it", but if you hadn't been read your Miranda rights, it gets thrown out. The DNA was presented as "coerced evidence", which even though we know is allowed all the time, it can be thrown out if they feel it wasn't obtained properly.

Seems odd because he wasn’t charged with a crime until after he provided the evidence, so he didn’t need to be read his Miranda rights until he was arrested.

These are the types of things they should deal with on the show, not leave for us to figure out.

Re: Law & Order -- Series Discussion Thread

If this gets a season 22, there will be some cast changes. Waterston is only signed for this season and if he wants to continue, he will need a new deal. Anderson is probably out as he's also only signed to 1 year. Not sure about Donovan's status.

Something I'm not exactly proud of knowing first hand, but you don't have to be charged with a crime before your Miranda rights apply.

Renewed for season 22

I would expect a full 22 episode season for the Fall.

Pleeeease retool this show. The only thing that even works IMO is Anderson and Dancy.

I'm not jazzed about the cast either, but maybe they can grow into the roles. What needs to go is the "topical" stories and attempts to connect to current events.

I don't disagree, -that's why I dropped it after Season Five (as I recall), -but that's what they've always done.

Wonder if Wolf will bring back Chris Noth's character Logan.

Not a chance. Noth is "cancelled"

Re: Law & Order -- Series Discussion Thread

Had me then they lost me.

Good start to an episode (even if the "assumed identity" victim angle has been done in several previous episodes), then a clunky segue to an Oxycontin executive trial. Didn't really make sense.
