Re: Lost: The Final Season -- "The Substitute" -- 02/16/10
I've began going back and rewatching the first season to try and refresh my memory while the new season goes on. I rewatched the 4th episode in season 1 where Locke goes hunting for the wild boars. There's that sequence where the smoke monster basically is looking at him straight in the face, and then of course, we find out he makes it back okay.
So was that showing that the MiB, even early on, saw how easily Locke could be manipulated? Do you think the writers were thinking that, or something else? |

I believe they looked at seasons 1 and 2 and tried their hardest to make sure their definite ending would satisfy the questions of those seasons, but we probably need to take anything from those seasons with a grain of salt, knowing that they aren't as "canon" as the later seasons. In other words, it's still questionable whether how the smoke monster acted in season one is consistent with how he's acting now. I'm not convinced the writers were thinking about the two men on the beach in season one. I could be wrong, but I think things like this as well as season one questions like Walt's special abilities may just go unanswered. |
Re: Lost: The Final Season -- "The Substitute" -- 02/16/10
I came up with my own little theory about what may be happening.
When the bomb went off, it was like ringing a bell. It sent off vibrations in time and the "ringing" is the two different possible outcomes, one where it reset things, the other where it didn't. As the vibrations begin to lessen, the two divergent paths begin to collapse back on each other leaving one timeline again. |

Eloise said things would go wrong on flight 316 if not all were brought back by Locke. They were split up over two different times. They have to find a new flight to the island, recreating 'flight 316' with everyone on board this time including Aaron. The island should take the necessary people off the flight and place them in 1977 while letting the plane land safely in 2007. In 1977 they need to stop the bomb from ever getting near its destination. After the Incident occurs the alternate Losties will disappear from existence because their world no longer is. The plane in 2007 on the runway with the rest of the passengers also disappears. Now there is only one timeline. The other Losties that were in 1977 will jump into 2007 at the time of the Incident (including Juliet unless it was her fate to die) and join the rest to find out what's going on with Jacob, etc... |

Re: Lost: The Final Season -- "The Substitute" -- 02/16/10
OK..can somebody please summarize for me...
Why do some of you feel "Kwon" is certainly not the daughter? Because when I search for the term "daughter" in this thread the first post I find is the post that suggests it then immediately afterward somebody replies that no, it can't be, and chastises them for not reading the thread. Since a keyword search fails to bring up the previous discussion on it, please...summarize! |

Anyone think the woman seen as Locke entered the teacher's lounge was Harper (Others' psychiatrist, Goodwin's wife, introduced in "The Other Woman")?

So, you're saying nothing need be done to fix anything? They can just sit back in lounge chairs, grab a Dharma beer and watch the season unfold. I don't think so. They have to have a conflict. Something for the characters to resolve. The only way the two timelines become one is by action of man. The same way they became two......
. Right away I can think of one possibility, and I think they've already hinted at it: The characters become aware of their other selves. So maybe as the timelines begin to straighten out, the choices the characters make influence which timeline takes precedence? Maybe some characters fight for the No Crash timeline to win, while the others prefer the crash timeline. |

I've never known any time travel story where two timelines get straightened out by themselves. I can see them arguing about going to the island again once they start remembering the future past but their lives and maybe everyone's depend upon them fixing the universe. They need Doc Brown and a chalkboard. Faraday will come to the rescue I think. Desmond is his Constant. Let's see how that plays out. |

I really do not think that there are two timelines. I think that there is only one timeline and we are seeing in the side flashes the end of the story.

Unless your saying that the bomb didn't work and the Losties went to 2007 after the Incident and Juliet is wrong. The only timeline is now but then the no-crash footage doesn't make any sense unless the bomb works. |

I can see how one would think this but if dropping the bomb worked and the Losties were sent to 2007 and that is the only timeline now then why would they be on the island at all? The only timeline should be the new no-crash one.

This might be a little off topic, but I was watching an episode of Brotherhood today and I heard a familiar noise - I realized that it was the clicking noise that the smoke monster makes. The noise was:

I did a google search and I'm not the only one that has noticed this. |

From another forum someone noticed that inside the box Locke was carrying out from his job after he was fired was a figurine that looked like a polar bear. Others said it was a yellow lab. What do you think?
