The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
I've read that after his taping tonight, Ferguson said he had already planned to leave the show even before he knew Dave was retiring. In fact, he planned to leave this summer and agreed to stay on until December to accommodate CBS.
I don't have a clue who will take over, but it won't be Chelsea Handler.

It will never happen b/c he's a nobody, but I wouldn't mind seeing them at least give Josh Robert Thompson a tryout.
Craig had a good run, but I'm not crushed he's leaving. There is something to overstaying your welcome in a job like this. Most of them do. Ferguson is still very funny so he's getting out just under the wire as far as I'm concerned. You could visibly see him getting bored in some of the interviews; I think that announcing the end date will revitilize him to a degree.

The only person I would watch regularly if he took over for Ferguson would be Adam Carolla (as long as he didn't have Bong Soo Loo and DFG as recurring comedy bits).

Keepin it classy, all the way until christmas!
these last few months will be fun, especially with his 'they can't fire me now!'
Also it was teased tonight Geoff might "get surgery" to become human, maybe where Josh is seen as 'the voice'

Strange since I think Kilborn left in 2005 and Ferguson leaves almost 10 years later.
Adam Carollas views on female comedians might offend some people and that might prevent him from getting the job plus I don't think he has the buzz anymore since he does a podcast.
Maybe Leno and Ferguson should go to FOX or another network as a combo since they visit each other shows frequently and it seem they are on friendly terms.
As Long as Fallon and Conan don't leave I won't be mad.

I'll miss the authors he has on the show and the tangential discussions such as last week when Billy Bob Thornton was a guest. Thornton mentioned he was working on a film "London Fields" and Craig instantly recognized it from the novel by Martin Amis. They talked a little about him and his father Kingsley. It's the sort of thing you don't get from most shows.

Man, Dave and Craig leaving so close together? Ouch.
I'd definitely be down for Carolla. I think his female comedian view was overblown. Aisha Tyler filled in for him last week. Wasn't he asked about a specific comedienne and then the author 'broadened' what he said to make it sound more general? It's been awhile since I've heard about it.
It'd definitely be interesting seeing him and Jimmy with late night shows. I'm not sure he'd pair well with Colbert though.

Adam was asked if he thinks if men are funnier than women. He said yes, men are funnier than women. That was spun as "women aren't funny."
If he said that he thinks blowjobs are better than pizza, would people assume that means he hates pizza?

This saddens me so much, Craig's is the only late night talk show I can watch, and I watch it everyday and laugh multiple times per episode. I'd really like him to do another talk show, but I don't know how likely that is.

Maybe it is because I'm a big fan, but I honestly believe it was his own choice to leave. Not to say that CBS wouldn't have pushed him out anyway, but from what he said last night, he was ready to leave after 8 years, and they gave him the new studio and got him to stay. And I completely believe he didn't want Letterman's job.

Maybe I was spoiled with Carson/Letterman at NBC when I was growing up in the 80's/early 90's and no one has lived up to that since?

Ferguson was the only late night show I could watch. He was an original. I'm glad he is going out on his terms.

Thank god! Ferguson is terrible and his interviews are more awkward then Leno's used to be. The problem is the talent pool is so thin these days, that every replacement these days (Fallon, Meyers, Colbert) are average at best.

I tried watching him a couple of times and had to turn it off after a couple of minutes. Just not my type of humor.

Michael Ian Black should become the host, wasn't he the runner up ten years ago after Kilborn left but ultimately lost to Ferguson.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
That's back when Letterman had a say. CBS will be making this decision and they won't choose Michael Ian Black. The rumors I've heard that have some credibility have Neil Patrick Harris as the front runner among about 5 serious candidates.

Why would NPH do a talk show he already has a successful Broadway career and is appearing in some alright movies like Gone Girl, A Million Ways To Die in the West, and a new Pixar movie.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
Why would Stephen Colbert voluntarily shut down his massively popular and influential show where he had carte blanche in order to host a talk show long past its glory days? People make decisions all the time that look puzzling to an outsider; no reason to think the idea of NPH taking over is an outlandish one.

Doesn't he have a couple of young kids? Maybe he is looking for a steady, less stressful gig that will keep him close to home without the crazy hours spent on set or at the theater...

The front-runner: Neil Patrick Harris
The diversity, please candidate: Aisha Tyler
The Colbert companion: Chris Hardwick
The pop-culture fiend: Joel McHale
The wild card: Pat Kiernan
I've read that CBS is also considering Michael Ian Black, Jason Jones, John Hodgman and Amy Schumer, although the writer who mentioned Schumer thought she was more likely to get serious consideration for Colbert's old time slot.
I'm pulling for the extreme long shot of Amy Schumer. She's hilarious and, like Ferguson does now, she would have a show that would be completely unlike the other talk shows. But while she's dirty and funny without coming across as bitchy, like Handler, I think she might not want to take a job that would force her to not be herself.
