Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

I thought it was really good.

Its a bit of Clue mixed with To Tell the Truth.

They have a panel of six that have to answer trivia questions.
one person knows all the answers and that person is The Hustler.

A clue to the Hustlers ID is given during each trivia question.
One person is eliminated after each question.
Everyone votes on who leaves but only the Hustler vote counts, in secret.

The Hustlers ID only comes into play when three are left.
They all vote on who they think the hustler is.

If they don’t guess the ID the hustler gets the dough.
Whomever does guess correctly gets the pot.

It’s a slow moving show, not flashy like the new version of the Chase but I thought it was different and interesting.

I haven't watched the second episode, but I enjoyed it for the most part. Obviously, it mostly rides on Ferguson's persona and/or charisma. I'm giving it a chance but I fear the pace will kill it for the general audience.

I watched it last night live to avoid news. Not a terrible show; I can't believe the other two woman believed her lie about the ankle. She was definitely trying to steer everyone to correct answers. Well played by her.

So I've watched both episodes. I like it well enough. Great to have CF back on tv. I'm in for a while.

I wish he would do something in late night again. Even if he didn’t do a show nightly but maybe a couple times a week or so.

On the first episode, when it was revealed the Hustler had watched The Fifth Element 80 times they should have shut the whole thing down and alerted the authorities.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Five shows so far and every time The Hustler was accused (and lost) the other two contestants agreed and split the pot.

Ferguson has never addressed the possibility of only one contestant correctly accusing The Hustler and the other contestant incorrectly agreeing withe The Hustler's false accusation.

When he explains the rules for winning, it is always The Hustler gets it all or the other two split the pot.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

How would that work?
The Hustler would change their answer.

Wouldnt it always be either hustler or the other two?

Doesnt The Hustler win in this scenario?

Ferguson has laid it out that the game HAS to end with 2 of the 3 in agreement. So if Bob and Tim and Ann are the final 3, and Ann is the Hustler, it is possible for the game to end like this:
  • Ann the Hustler accuses Tim
  • Bob also accuses Tim
  • Tim correctly accuses Ann
There is an agreement required by the rules, and Ann has not fooled everybody. So why should Ann win? Seems fairer that Tim should get all the money because he DID identify the Hustler.

This is what happened in the most recent show and The Hustler did win the money.

I think I'm off the show at this point, as this makes no sense to me. Ferguson even announced with great enthusiasm that The Hustler "fooled everybody!" NO! SHE DIDN'T!!

I don’t care who wins. We just like the show.

Tgat weird stipulation isn’t something that will keep me from watching.

There’s a YouTube channel that uploads a bunch of the old episodes of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. It’s simply called Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson Archive.

Since this character was part of the Late Late Show, there aren't and won't be any official release DVDs of the material.

So what you are looking for is someone to burn the videos available on the web onto a disc, which I believe is illegal, and so not something you can pursue on this site.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

The only DVD’s produced for the show were the Emmy screener discs from 2006 and 2007. I managed to find them both on eBay back in the day.

Man....this household REALLY misses "The Hustler" - what a fun show and Craig was so perfect as the snarky host.

CBS should just put him back in his old time slot after Corden leaves.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

I kinda gave up on Late night after Ferguson left. Everyone else just pales in comparison. I'll watch an occasional YouTube clip of Fallon, Kimmel or Corden but none of them are appointment tv.

So, hell yeah, Bring Back Craig!

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Craig was at his best when he had the room to freewheel either on his own or with Geoff the Robot. This new show sounds like it would be tightly scripted riffing on other shows like Talk Soup used to do. Syndicated late night has been a graveyard for a long time. Just seems like the wrong place and time. Even the name "Channel Surf" seems from another era.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

It seems like he wants to put a different spin on a late night show while kind of getting back in that field. I would rather it be more like The Late Late Show but maybe he doesn’t want to do exactly that and I wonder if a lot of the stuff he did would even fly now days.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

He is the new host of Scrabble on the CW

Ferguson has signed on to host the second season of Scrabble for The CW, Deadline reports. Ferguson will take over hosting duties from the game show revival’s inaugural host, Raven-Symoné, who will remain on board as an executive producer.

An adaptation of the popular Hasbro- and Mattel-owned board game of the same name, Scrabble first aired on NBC on 1984-1990 with host Chuck Woolery. NBC briefly brought the show back in 1993. The CW’s revival premiered in the fall of 2024 and was given a 12-episode order.

This time around, The CW has picked up Scrabble for 30 episodes, eying a 2026 return.

Since departing The Late Late Show in 2014 after a nearly ten-year run, Ferguson has emceed three game shows. From 2014-2017, he emceed all three seasons of the syndicated series Celebrity Name Game. In 2016, he hosted Join or Die, a game/panel show he created that was given a 22-episode run on History.

Most recently, he hosted The Hustler for ABC, which was cancelled after two seasons in 2021. He has also released four standup special since then, including last year’s I’m So Happy.
“I’m cock-a-hoop to be hosting Scrabble,” said Ferguson. “I’ve wanted to do this show ever since I found out the letters of my name can be used to spell Cougar Fingers.”
