Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread
It makes for good television and wish fulfillment for certain key demographics the producers want to see happy. Many viewers are living vicariously through the show and identify with the people pitching an idea most like them. Ever notice how the pitches are evenly distributed by geography, social class and gender?

If this is the one you are talking about, it did get a deal.

I don't understand why the Jewelery family was even there given how much they had in sales. Then 2 teams of Sharks with the same offer....lame. Should've said first one to agree to 25% wins. But they fucked Kevin.
The success of that tea company was a surprise.

Robert said it was a smart move for the jewelry family to ask for other offers but the salesman with the app to teach people to better salesmen was slammed for not taking the offer on the table but instead ask to hear what the other sharks had to say. Great episode however.

Yeah, it seems weird that, with $5 million in sales, they would give up a sizable portion of their company for a $300,000 investment. I wonder if they're bleeding money somewhere, or have been pissing away their profits.

My sister used to do the same thing the jewelry girls did. She would put designs on bottle caps, CDs, and just other random pendants she would find. She'd attach them to magnets and put them up everywhere. She made them for all her friends too. Never once thought of selling it. Maybe she should have. Very simple idea that they ran with, good for them.
And it's about time someone asked Mark for season tickets. I was waiting all season for that.
And the model for the ledge pillow was very distracting.

The noseguard asked for season tickets last season. It's been done, and I've assumed that's why we hadn't seen that again until now.
Probably the weakest of the season, none of these ideas came off as anything particularly creative or inventive. Though the tea guys were actually the product I was most interested in, so I'm glad they got a deal, and I'm glad Kevin finally...FINALLY made an offer that wasn't completely asinine as he usually does.
The show really needs to stop allowing people with no sales (or less than 1,000) to be on the show. It just kills the drama dead once that comes out.

The tea was actually a viable product, but the garbage can cover was a joke and I don't understand the appeal of the junk jewelry at all.

Even though that's mostly true, there are a few exceptions. The elephant medicine dropper lady got a deal despite having no sales, no patent and no market testing, and was lucky Barbara likes to make deals based on intuition rather than proven sales.

The Boob Saver 3000 was laughable too. Pfft, a pillow to protect bimbos' implants when they lie on their stomach. Talk about a niche market.

The chick with the pretzels shouldn't have gotten a deal just based on her idiotic answer about why the sharks should invest. Seriuosly, bringing up your kids and hopes and dreams and that crap? Brutal.

no but the 2 million dollar order from Sam's club (which she probably put in her application) probably helped seal the deal. QVC already has a pretzel company relationship so Lori was out. Mark was probably the only choice. Mark was a bully though to the negative ion watch guy.

That was the best part of tonight's show. The ion thing IS a scam, I saw no issue with Mark calling him out on it, and if anything, I thought it was cool of Mark wanting no part of it even though he had profits. Daymond later calling him a liar for stealing a design was much harsher.

My daughter recently bought a watch EXACTLY like that slim negative ion watch...at the Dollar Tree. All it says on the band is "ION".
I am not sure what that means, though I am now disappointed in my 8yo daughter for falling for that scam.

On the bright side, she only paid a dollar. Those stupid things often sell for a lot more. And it's a positive to teach her about these kinds of scams now, knowing better now will help prevent her from being a sucker later on.

The ESSO Watches website is advertising these ION watches with a "As Seen On SharkTank" banner. They even have a "SHARKDEALS" coupon code good for buy3get1free.

What was the similar bracelet thing that recently had to basically admit it was a scam? Soon as I saw that guy, I knew that someone was going to shred him. But whether it works or not doesn't really matter, as long as people want to buy them.
Cuban is an okay addition to the show, but a lot of the times he seems to give the investors exactly what they want, without haggling. Haggling is the best part of the show. Lori seems to be the opposite - she gleefully tries to screw the investors. Like the guy at the end last night with the glasses magnet. Ultimately he is better off with the deal since his 35% of sales now will triumph the 100% of whatever he was going to make without her, but to give up that much of the company has to be a shot in the gut.
