I like the updates on past contestants. I thought it was cool they even gave us an update on someone who didn't make a deal with the sharks. I hope they continue this.

I have allergies that kill me sometimes, like a lot of people I am sure, but I still don't think I would wear those nose things...
$4mill sounds like a great deal.... could not believe he passed on it...

Sure if you're the only one wearing them. But if you're in Dubai and a million other people are wearing them, then who cares.

I only caught the last part of the nasal screen. Was the point to keep bugs from flying up your nose, or was it sort of a mini-surgical mask (keep your mouth closed and breath through your nose)?

Mini-surgical mask. The guy claimed that most (90%?) of germs are collected through the nose instead of the mouth.

So it came back for a 2nd season on Sunday, although the regular time slot is Fridays at 8.
Anyhow, the big change this season is that they dumped the telemarketing guy who rarely invested in anything and was quite boring, and replaced him with Mark Cuban. I have to admit Cuban was very good -- he mixed it up well with Kevin and Robert. And he totally stole that one deal away from Barbara.
Very entertaining episode. The collar stay invention was pretty cool, but that guy was a total douche.
I don't blame the wine guy from walking away from Kevin's offer. But man, he was sweating up a storm.
I loved Kevin's jealously at how those child-song-dance-whatever ladies were able to fleece people.

I agree, Cuban is a welcome, outspoken addition to the show. The grey-haired guy (from last season) and Damon are stiffs, and Barbara is only a weak foil for O'Leary's overbearing scumminess.

Ah yes, I see. I don't know why a new thread is required. Perhaps a mod can change the title of this one to reflect the new schedule.

The infomercial shark was useless, as usual. It's too bad Mark Cuban couldn't come back.
I thought the air freshener guy was crazy to turn down $225 grand plus a 7% royalty to just walk away.

Yep, the air freshener dude lost out big, and I was hoping the kids would lose the deal when they had the nerve to ask for more for their ridiculous coin bracelet.

Agree on both accounts. I can understand the air freshener guy not wanting to lose control of his invention, but to me, turning it over to these guys and getting money plus a royalty would be a no brainer. I wish the kids ended up with nothing.
First time I've seen this, although I have caught Lion's Den on CBC a few times, and when I do, I always enjoy it. I'll have to set up these to record.

Oh, forgot to mention, the mother at the beginning was amazingly hot. And aside from the two sharks that are on Dragons Den, I really don't like the other sharks (especially the informercial guy...he got a Skeletor going on...it looks like his face is straining to keep from having his skull poke through).

at the air freshener guy. That was one of the best 'negotiations' ever on this show. The other lesson to take from this show is to not leave the room when they ask. Either take the best deal at that point or leave for good because that's when they merge their offers into the least attractive.

I thought it was funny when one of the kids said that their coin bracelet was going to be a big hit on college campuses.

Charging $10-14 for a glorified rubber band. "Vinnie's wad"
The baby-luggage-chair was clever, but I'd rather have a product that can kill parents who bring a toddler or infant on a plane.
Foxworthy didn't add much to this, but he's better than the infomercial guy.

Those guys with the Hill Billy clothing line got robbed. 75k and 7%? I'm guessing they're about to find out all the different ways to get screwed over on a 'royaty' deal. I don't understand why people dont pursue licensing on their own. Even the woman on the panel said that any decent lawyer can do a licensing deal.

Yeah, that seemed like a crappy deal. After taxes, they each got around 25k. And then they'd have to sell 1 million in merchandise for each guy to clear 25k after taxes on the 7% royalty. Pathetic, although they were busting their ass to break even with the company so I guess they wanted to cash out, but that was still a terrible deal.

I just wonder if Mark Cuban dropped out of his other scheduled episodes, since neither he nor Foxworthy are shown on next week's panel..

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread
Cuban was on three episodes and Foxworthy will be on three episodes. That was the plan. I think ABC probably asked each of them to come over for a day's shoot.
Foxworthy is actually a legit businessman. He makes 10+ million a year from his merchandising/comedy tours/hosting.

Both Cuban and Foxworthy have better TV presences than that infomercial cadaver.
On another note, I wonder how many people go on shows like these with no intention of getting a deal, but rather simply to get free exposure for their products. At an intentionally unviable $500,000 for a 5% stake in some doodad, all potential investors are out, but meanwhile the inventor has pitched his product and hundreds of thousands of viewers are Googling this neat gadget to find out where to get one.

By going on the show, they give up 2% of the company. That was in the fine print at the end of credits season one. They tweaked it this season so it's either equity or royalty, but companies are essentially paying to appear on the show.
So it's not free but, yeah, each pitch is like a 10 minute infomercial on prime time network tv; the value of that is immense and in most cases well worth the 2% or whatever.

This probably would have been better to pitch when the infomercial Shark was there, although I doubt he would have bit.
