Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

The t-shirt guy is going in the wrong directing, he's gotta put that stuff on bathing suits and not words, make it different patterns. He's limiting his pitch too much by using sweat as the example, needs to focus on items that get wet.

The wine guy is such a arrogant bastard, license that shit out, sit back and make a fortune. There's no way he can produce enough wine to meet the demand.

Good for the wine guy. Fuck Cubes and that offer on that. He was getting shafted. He should have just accepted Kevin's 12% deal right away. It's never good when you leave (particularly when they ask you to leave, which just means collusion) and come back in.

at the Hurricane = Gold guy. That was classic.

On top of the lowball offer, Cuban wouldn't even commit to carrying the product in his arena. What was that about. I love how they never factor in the growth rate into their offers and ignore the fact that appearing on the show is instantly causing huge sales spikes.

Agree with sauce that t-shirt guy should be focusing on swimwear and designs that appear when it gets wet.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

Methinks Wine Guy had more capital then he was letting on and wanted to get some more exposure by coming on the show. I don't think he had any desire to make a deal unless he got exactly what he was asking for. Cuban and the guys tried to screw him but he wasn't being very fair either.

The tshirt idea was kind of dumb but I can see a product like that selling. But I agree that he needs to focus on swimwear.

Can you imagine what 10 minutes of prime-time major network commercial time would cost? The wine guy received many millions of dollars worth of advertisement for almost nothing. Pretty damn smart.

I thought I read that if you come on and do not make a deal, you are giving up 5% of your business. I'll look for the article.

I thought it was 2% - and I didn't think it was contingent on whether a deal was made or not.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

It is 2%. The wine balloon guy posted that on his blog after his episode aired. But his deal fell through before the broadcast, so I'm pretty sure to be on Shark Tank, you have to give up 2% whether you make a deal or not (which would also explain why deals that don't get made still get updates anyway.)

Who takes control of the 2%?

I assume the producers/Mark Burnett get the 2% stake.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

ABC and Burnett get the equity share, and I believe it rose from 2% to 5% this season. I wonder if the wine guy gave up equity for a second time; if he did, that's going to start to add up since he's already on pace for 5 million sales this year. Obviously the advertising is great for business though.

Having to give up a piece of your company to appear on the show seems a little dodgy.

Comes off like payola or pay-to-play.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

I'm watching right now. Seeing some of the TV shows that are/have been released to DVD, it makes me wonder why this hasn't. I'd buy it, on Blu-ray as well, but that won't happen for a while.

I can't think of any reality show that people would want to buy on DVD.

And yet there have been many, particularly nearly every Real Housewives incarnation and all of Jersey Shore.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

The fact that every single episode of this show is available on Hulu means that there is VERY little interest in the past episodes. What is the point of multiple viewings of a show like this?

He said people. Only animals watch those shows.

The "animals" can have those on DVD and I'll take Shark Tank. I take it you aren't a fan?

Barbara should have been on this one - just to have 2 women Sharks because these were all female-oriented products.

Sippy cup people were stupid. Should've jumped on Damon's offer. That's a great product.

I think it was a combination of getting too many offers quickly and and wanting to work with Cuban.

I am considering buying that sippy cup. Smart idea.

As a resident of Pittsburgh, I would just like everyone to know that not all women in the Burgh are that stupid...or unattractive. Talk about embarassing your hometown.

Re: "Shark Tank" (ABC) - Series Thread

The sippy cup looks fantastic, but the one drawback, based on the reviews that I read, was that it leaks because it doesn't have a valve. But not having a valve is part of the design because of the weighted straw, so it's a valid omission.

The tank top idea was ridiculous, and ugly. Starting to see a lot of companies that deal with interchangeability (this show alone had the tank tops & the purses, plus in the past they've had dresses & shoes, and those are just the ones from the top of my head).

An $18 sippy cup that leaks? No thanks.
