This is why the show would be better served to focus on 2-3 people over the course of a 13-week season, so we could see these people go to therapy and really work on solving their issues. If someone is hoarding month-old milk and dead cats, their problem goes far beyond laziness. There's some psychological damage lurking. But there's no way of determining if the people are getting the help they need just with one show. I would like to see a slow and steady process, building up to these people taking back control over their lives.

I'll tell you what...I clean house every time after I watch this show. It just makes me so sick to my stomach that I start looking around my own house for stuff to throw away.
Finally caught up on these on the dvr and yeah I love it because after I watch it, I want to clean my place up. Also, like that it helps me see how bad it can get as I think I have some saving tendencies.

The lady saving the old food, obviously had some problems, the kicker for me was her saving some of the seeds from the pumpkin that had been rotting in her living room for a few years. "I've never seen a pumpkin like that when it was good, I'll save some seeds and plant them."

but the real stomach turning visual was the ceiling fly sticky as well as the meat juice in the fridge with the rotting food - the guy leaving to wretch - aggh!

Just watched the "cat lady" episode. I felt bad for her and her situation, but when you've got dozens of dead cats hidden in your house it's time to get cleaning.

The other segment with the whiny gay kid and his alcoholic father was so fucking lame. Drama queen.

Yeah, it really was. Every time he said something he would start crying or having a little anxiety meltdown. "OMGz I am at a 7.5 right now!!!"

Re: Hoarders (Mondays on A&E)

Tonight was ridiculous. That lady was over the top messy, that's not just hoarding. Rat poop on the kitchen counter?? But 1,400 boxes of clutter? 1,400!! 14 would be crazy, but it's possible 14 boxes could be organized. This lady will never, ever go through 1,400 boxes. They looked to be 18"x18" or 18"x24". 1,400 18"x18" boxes is 3,150 square feet of clutter. That's a warehouse she'd have to rent. The cost to store 1,400 boxes rather than let the 1800GOTJUNK trucks haul it away for FREE on A&E's dime is just insane.

It's not surprising she didn't get her kids back.

Judge: So, Mrs. Hoarder, your house is clean. Where is everything?

Mrs. Hoarder: In 1,400 boxes in storage.

Judge: Keep fucking that chicken.

Re: Hoarders (Mondays on A&E)

been watching the show from the beginning, but i feel like something's gotta change. i feel like these people can't be helped with just what they're doing on the show (essentially just going to their houses and trying to convince them to throw shit out). i think there was maybe one person in the second episode(?) that actually changed, and everyone else just keeps hoarding shit.

these people have serious mental/psychological issues and it seems like they should be treated the same way people on Intervention are treated - by getting out of the environment they are in and going away for help. i really don't see many of them changing their ways if all they're gonna do is bring a cleaning crew to their houses.

Yeah, the whole "Two days to clean there house" just isn't working. Both cases last night were miserable failures, probably two of the worse they've had on here. The whole Pepsi Big Gulp cup thing I just couldn't believe.

The lady in one of the cases was going though the dumpster of things that had been thrown out, she spots one of those throw away plastic big gulp type cups. She picks it up and the therapist goes through all the reasons why she shouldn't keep it and of course she keeps it anyway.

She didn't keep it. The therapist talked to her and she just said 'you're right I don't need this' and threw the cup in the trash... Still ridiculous that she even thought of keeping it though.

It looked like she said "you're right" and then threw it off the truck anyway.

That's what I got, too. She threw it off of the truck and onto the "keep" pile.

I agree that this show just seems to be a fail, this method of treatment just isnt getting anyone anywhere. They need to add some hard core Cognitive Behavior Therapy or something before the clean up the mess.

It makes me missed Obsessed where they would actually get somewhere.

Like someone said earlier it should really track a few people through a whole season so we can see some progress. I mean the couple last night ended up getting divorced, we should be in on that drama.

Re: Hoarders (Mondays on A&E)

The show is AT LEAST at the line of being exploitative, and is probably over it, as edited. Sending in a psychologist for 2 days isn't going to help anything except the ratings. I understand the psychologists points, but they don't seem to get anywhere. If the network/producers picked up the cost for a year of therapy then I don't think I'd mind; the episode/3-days would be a great kick off to their continuing therapy.

The only people I've seen get clean were the guy with the 100 sqft apartment and the women who lost her kids, and both were because the organizer/clean-up crew were given a free hand.

Missed the cat lady episode, what nights do they usually show reruns?

I'd rather not see that format, because I think it would get boring and tedious really quick. I prefer the two patient per week style, because we get to see a wider range of scenarios.

I hope they atleast do updates in future shows, I mean last night the guy with all of the cars and scrap had good intentions and got $3k for the metal, but I don't think he seemed like the type that would continue to clean it up when the show is not paying for the scrap metal dumpster, despite the 5 months extension to avoid jail time.

ETA: Finally caught the cat lady episode and seeing all of those skeletons was disgusting and the gay kid in the other segment was such as spaz it was cringe inducing sometimes.
