Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

I still watch Pawn Stars more for the items brought in than for the cast.

I just want to see more of Olivia.

Anyone see this past week's episodes? Chumlee bought Rebecca the book girl some Russell Stover chocolates. Couldn't he have sprung for something a little less supermarket? He sure makes more than enough.

Everytime I see Rebecca now, I think of that "fan of her book knowledge" post. I laugh everytime.

So do I. And she's been in a lot of episodes lately, so I've been cracking up.

How is the show doing in ratings? It seems to have cooled off. I know I lost interest after the repeated fakery.

I think Cajun Pawn Stars is now higher rated, well at least to the commercials, anyway.

Which is a shame because CPS is nowhere near as good. I hate how they throw insane dollar amounts around so casually. Rick is way better at playing close to the vest. Plus, the stuff people bring in is nuts. Who sells a Ferrari to a pawn shop, really? Sell it on your own.

Yea, I'm sick of it, too. In fact, they all suck to some degree except for the Old Man.

My gf and I are going to Vegas in 2 weeks and we're thinking of stopping in here, assuming it's not on a filming day where the lines are down the block.

All I know if I'm ever in a position to pawn something there I'm talking to Rick and not to Corey and definitely not to the Old Man. He underbids routinely. At least with Rich you might get somewhere in the neighborhood of what your crap is worth.

I'd go for Chumlee and convince him I had an ultra-rare Bazooka Joe wrapper worth a thousand dollars.

For some reason I can't post the pic but I love the one of Rick saying; "Change for a Dollar? 25 cents is the best I can do."

My in-laws went to their store last year and they said it was nothing like the one on the show, it was actually way smaller. I'm guessing they film at a mock-up store.

you are kidding, right? They film everything at the store. Good tv crews can use all sorts of angles and tricks to make a place look bigger.

My own personal example of this is going to see both Conan and Jimmy Kimmel tapings. More evident in Conan tapings (back in the old NY studio). It looks big on TV. It's tiny when you get inside the studio.

Your in-laws were mistaken. Everything is filmed right in the store. They even set up a bouncer outside with a velvet rope, make you stand in line to get in during a shoot.

It is pretty cool that they also label all the items that have been on their show as "As Seen On TV".

I've been there and yes the place is tiny. The amazing part is they have expanded tremendously since the show's popularity, which means it was a real hole in the wall before the show started.

Brandi & Jarrod have similar tags in their store. You see "As Seen On Storage Wars" on stuff all over the store.

I have a friend that really likes pawn shops to look for coins. We go every year to Vegas and we used to stop here every year way before they were famous. They used to be reasonably priced.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

I don't know if anyone here is an American Restoration fan, but I've preferred it to Pawn Stars until a few weeks ago.

Does anyone else hate the total revamp the show did? Instead of focusing on the restorations which I found interesting, they're doing that cheesy family dynamic that Rick and Corey use on PS. They blew through the restoration on the episode I watched today in less than two minutes.

I don't know why they did this other than to make it more like Pawn Stars but it doesn't work. I hope they change it back.

It seems that many of similar shows are starting to do that, and I dislike it as well. "American Guns" is another show that I was starting to watch, then the new season started to mix in the made up drama to be more like "Sons of Guns". I liked the show more about building a gun instead of the workshop conflict/drama.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

I noticed that about AR as well. The opening changed, and suddenly Bretley is in it, while guys like Kowboy and the other restorers are gone. I'm not happy about the shift at all. If they keep giving more air time to Ron, aka the Muscular Chumley, than restoration, I'm gone.

BTW, I bought one of the silver "In The Old Man We Trust" coins they made from the giant silver bar. They still have a few left on their eBay site.

AR was easily the better program of the two. I like the fact that you saw the inner workings of the business and how they actually restored the antiques.

As hot as Rick's fianceé is, I don't care that much about phony, scripted quarrels or what's going on in their family. I just want to see them work their magic.

Was it worth the $60 they flaunt it for on the show?

I just saw an episode where a guy tried to sell Robosaurus. WTF?
