That was already covered in this thread. That Les Paul guitar isn't that monster one the guy brought in and sold for $100k a few weeks ago.

Obviously it wasn't the same guitar, but I never suggested it was

I see only one vague reference and no link regarding the guitar in the article to which I linked.

I watched what I guess was a rerun.last night.
A guy brought three life size replica Pinocchio marionettes.
They wereappraisedmin the shop at $16,000.
I think the up ended up with 9 grand for them.
He saidhe was glad to get rid of them.

Im sure He could have sold these at a show or Somewhere else and gotten much more than that. They included a signed certification that verified exactly what they were.

There was another guy who came in with a movie Poster, he also got ripped by the pawn guys .

Ae the people who go on there not aware of other ways to sell things?

At least he got burned by paying over value for that old Cy Young card.

Also do these pawn guys laugh right in the face of every person who comes in there? Looks like they do.

They are a business. How hard is that concept to grasp? If they paid for things what they worth, they would have lasted a few weeks. They need to make money. They, like every other business, have bills, employees overhead etc. to pay. They are not a charity. They can possibly sit on these items for weeks, months, years. That's money tied up in something not earning them interest.

Shit, remind me to go to retail stores and demand they sell me things at the price they pay.

Yikes, are you related to them.

I never said they didn't have aright to pay these customers what they want. I said the customers seem to not know of other ways to sell their stuff.
Anyway you have every right to barter prices at retail stores and many times they will give you at least a discount.

Also my main point is that the pawn guys come off a bit jerky especially when the laugh right in the face of people and it doesn't bother me a little bit if they over pay for something.

You let me know where they can sell something appraised by a random person at 15k for 15k. Auctions and such take 20-40% right off the bat.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

No not important enough for me to figure that out.
I'm just talking about what goes on in the show.

The process doesn't make sense to me. Taking a rare and valuable item to a pawn shop seems like a last resort so maybe that's what is going on with These people Coming in.

People like quick cash and no hassle. The hoops you have to jump through for eBay to be a satisfying experience nowadays is horrid. It just makes sense if you're looking for a quick buck or if you have a piece of crap lying around your house that's collecting dust.

Since the only Les Paul guitar that was discussed was the one that went for big bucks, I assumed that's the one you were referencing. The fact that you mentioned one that no one heard about was kind of strange.

And someone else quoted the posted the link. Wasn't trying to be a dick but you didn't post anything anybody in the thread hasn't already seen.

You think that posting about a guitar from the show in a thread about the show is strange?

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

I think anybody that saw your headline would easily assume the Les Paul in question was the one from this season. Especially since the one you linked to was already brought up here, suggesting you had some new info.

Just like the guy with the LeMat pistol. He originally turned down their offer. But when he went to a gun show and saw he couldn't even sell it for what they had offered he came back and took their offer.

An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can't attach emotional value to an item. The Pinochio puppets are going to be a hard sell, IMO. Who's going to actually want one? They are going to have to find a collector and that could take a long time.

AFAIK, they don't force anyone to sell to them. They let the person walk and a lot of times tell them the offer will stand if they come back. And, yes it's staged and quite a few buys are faked but its still entertaining to see what people collect or find at yard sales.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

I just watched my first few of Hardcore Pawn. they mixed in a few people trying to trade things in or sell them but most of the show was either the brother and sister arguing or them arguing with the customers.

I have no interest in seeing the brother and sister arguing the entire time, gets boring after one episode.

My biggest problem is how fake these shows are and they don't even try to hide it a little bit.

Especially on Hardcore Pawn.
This ep featured a woman who was arguing with the chubby sister. On her way out she started fighting with a fat woman in line. They both went outside to fight. They really didn't fight, it was just fingers in thier faces and the skinny girl was poking the fat girl in her under arm sweat.

But the fat girl was miked up and you could clearly see the mic box under the back of her shirt. Do they not care that we can tell its there and how obviously staged the fight was?

I think they just count on the fact that eagle eyed viewers like you are in the minority.

Also, the IRS is now in bed with Ebay so you have to worry reporting the sale on your income tax if it is a high amount. Doesn't matter if you sold it for less than you paid. If you don't have proof in the form of receipts to show original cost, IRS will tax you on the full amount. No hassle with that with a pawn shop!

Exactly why I am cutting back selling on eBay. Absolute BS.

If you remember a post that I made sometime back (about the colored guy). This was real, he did sue them and won. The Judge did not go easy on them, nor the company that was doing the filming of the show.

This was the only ep that I watched and it was funny as hell.

I did not know this, it would be hard for the IRS to track sales even if eBay and PayPal gave them the info. A pawn shop (I have never sold anything to, if I am wrong forgive me) you walk in with say a LCD TV. Value $300? you have to have picture ID or do they just take your word for it? They would make a copy of the id. I do know most people never pickup the items, this would then be a cash sale.

I need to go out later this week. I think I will take some items and see what they offer, what goes into a sale, loan. See how they talk to me, and see what happens when I do not sell it to them. If they get mad or not.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

Thanks to some late-night TV watching this weekend, I caught episodes of both Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn. I only made it through one episode of Hardcore Pawn...but I'm hooked on Pawn Stars.

Re: Pawn Stars on History Channel

what annoys me about Pawn Stars is when you see them bitching over overpaying a couple hundred bucks on an item, knowing full well they make so much money off the show that they only have to come into the ship for filming... I know its all for show, but its kinda annoying

I know its been discussed before, but I HATE the misleading bumps/previews or what ever you want to call them. They have the expert saying something negative about the item, but when they get to the segment, it was never actually said.

Pawn Stars has kinda lost me. It's become to staged. I know Chumlee isn't brain dead. And the Subway placements just turned me off.

Yeah that Snidely Whiplash laugh has to go, although nothing is worse than Mike from American Pickers porn star growling when he gets excited.
