I watched this for D'Onfrio and Goldblum. If they get rid of D'Onfrio I hope they just make the show focus on Goldblum's character.

It's official: Vincent D’Onofrio to exit 'Law & Order: CI'
Source: http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/09/...-law-order-ci/
Given the show was developed with Vincent D'Onofrio in mind, this is terrible news. However, it's been a long time coming. The whole reason they started to split the seasons between two separate teams is because a whole season's work was exhausting for him. I'm surprised he lasted this long.

“I have always been, and have always viewed myself, as a character actor, and the great opportunity that Dick [Wolf] presented to me to develop the Goren character on Criminal Intent was successful beyond my wildest expectations,” D’Onofrio said in a statement. “After eight seasons, and with the addition of Jeff Goldblum, now is the perfect time for me to explore other acting opportunities and I leave the show knowing it is in great hands with Jeff. For all my loyal CI fans, I wouldn’t be surprised if Goren pops up from time to time.”
D’Onofrio’s longtime partner, Kathryn Erbe, is expected to return for the two-parter as well, although her deal is still being finalized. As previously reported, My Own Worst Enemy’s Saffron Burrows is expected to replace her.
Thoughts?

I am saddened that he is leaving the show. I am also sad that Kathryn Erbe is also leaving. I cannot stand Saffron Burrows. I think she is just a terrible actress, and really wish they had picked someone else for the role.

I don't hate Saffron Burrows but, it's pretty unfortunate about Kathryn Erbe since her and Goldblum teamed up really well at the end of last season.

Goldblum is fun to watch, but D'Onofrio was on a whole separate acting level. However, with all his health problems the past few years, it's probably best he throws in the towel.

Good episode tonight.
Definitely didn't expect
Goldblum and D'Onofrio are a good combo on screen. Too bad D'Onofrio is gone after next week. Hopefully Goldblum can carry the show.

I thought the episode tonight was really good too. I've always enjoyed Criminal Intent the most of all the Law & Order's although it did drop in quality quite a bit around season 6. I think without Goren and Eames this show will suffer. The episodes without them I personally don't enjoy as much.

I enjoyed this too. Glad the characters are getting a decent storyline to leave on.
Im a big fan of D'Onofrio but I have to wonder if the bullshit he pulled when Bush got re-elected causing him to have his quasi-nervous breakdown and eventually the '13 episode per season/alternating cop team' stuff kept this show from ever reaching its full potential.
D'Onofrio is definitely a strong presence and his character cast such a shadow that nobody else they ever brought in stood a chance. Somehow Kathryn Erbe managed to make it work for herself and I always thought they should have made the characters link up romantically somehow.
I'll keep watching after next weeks house cleaning but this shows best days are behind it. I'm sure it will only last another season or 2 if that.
How does Goldblum manage to keep playing the same character, no matter what he is in? Didn't he just have his own cop show on ABC last season that didn't work? So why the hell did Dick Wolf think he would do better playing the same character in this?
Hope this move frees up D'onofrio to go back to making freaky arty films again. I always thought he could have been another DeNiro.

Definitely a quality episode and it was sad to see Ross go, poor guy!
I'm really excited they are giving some episodes to Goren and Eames before they go. There's going to be an awesome send off, I know it. Goren deserves nothing less.

Pretty good episode.
Disappointed they're not going to go with Nichols and Eames together. I thought Erbe and Goldblum worked well together when they were partnered up at the end of last episode.
At least the Ginger is gone

Re: Law and Order: Criminal Intent- "Loyalty" 3/30
I'm suprised so many people liked it! Didn't feel like an episode of Law & Order at all, especially the rocket launcher opening. CI hasn't felt like a Law & Order spinoff since season 6. What happened to actually solving crimes? What happened to the great dialogue? There was nothing better than watching Goren psychologically pick someone apart. I think the producers need to go buy seasons 1-4 and remind themselves how great this show was.
CGI in Law & Order is just wrong!!!!
I almost stopped watching when they pissed all over the Nicole Wallace character. It was offensive how they got rid of the only character that could go toe to toe with Goren (and made for some of the best episodes).

Disappointing Part 2 and a limp goodbye
Didn't see a new thread for this so since it was a two parter I'll just post here.
This was a pretty limp finale to last week's fast paced Part 1.
Goren and Eames' weak goodbye scene went by so fast in the last 5 mins of the show that I had to rewind and watch it again.
They hardly said anything directly to each other about what had happened, the sudden loss of their partnership, what their plans were for the future or anything you would want to know to help wrap up things with the characters you have grown to love.
In short, we were left hanging with nothing really resolved. I don't know why they even bothered to make Eames the new Captain unless they thought fans would appreciate her being the one to fire Goren before she also quit.
Even the resolution of the African leader and arms smuggliing operation plotline seemed confusing and hackneyed.
A disappointing sendoff for 2 great characters, altho I suppose we should be grateful for getting that much considering the show should have been cancelled 3 years ago.
On a positive note, Saffron Burrows seems capable, altho there seems to be little chemistry between her and Goldblum and Mary Elisabeth Mastrantonio (who apparently is the new captain) has always been pretty solid so I'll keep watching, if only to see where they go from here.

Finally caught this, and for me it was the series finale. The new characters did nothing for me, so that's it for me.

The first part was fantastic and intense and left me anxiously awaiting where they'd go with it. The second part however was a bland letdown.

Ya, I did like the Eames and Nichols partnership, but I think the Saffron Burrows character is a good match for Nichols since she can play the straight man to his quirky dude.

Just watched part 2 and I agree with a lot of the comments about it feeling rushed and not making much sense. It was a pretty weak exit for both of them as well.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent - Broad Channel (4/13/10)
The murder of an NYPD detective brings Nichols and Stevens to a sleepy seaside town, ruled by one of Nichols' old foes - an Irish mob boss with a reputation for eluding justice.
Welcome to Broad Channel, a sleepy seaside community on the outskirts of New York City. A place where people still believe in hard work, tradition, and loyalty. Here we find JACKIE DOOLEY, an old-school Irish mob boss who runs this town. He's a master at playing to people's weaknesses and pitting them against each other. But above all, he knows how to insulate himself from the law. In fact, he's eluded Detective Nichols on several previous occasions. But the delicate equilibrium he's established is shattered when RYAN FIELDS, a New York detective who's popular with the media, winds up dead on Jackie's turf.
Nichols and Stevens uncover a host of shady characters in Broad Channel, all of whom want something from Jackie, even if though they've already become his pawns. At the center of the case is MOIRA BOYLE, Jackie's former secretary who longs to return to her former boss's good graces and her son EDDIE, a recovering junkie looking for a second chance. Nichols and Stevens also come into conflict with ATWATER, a fellow detective from Fields' precinct who sees their presence as an intrusion on his turf. Atwater warns Nichols and Stevens that Broad Channel is an isolated community where people will do anything to protect their own. As their investigation deepens, Nichols and Stevens come to realize that the bonds of community aren't enough to prevent blackmail, betrayal and murder.

I have this on DVR. So the start of Goldblum as the primary lead begins. BTW, from the 2-part season premiere, I find it funny that they did a new opening for part 2 that cut out the captain and just had Goren, Eams and Nichols in the last shot, considering it's the only time it'll be used.

I figured he wouldn't last long. Does this mean the show is over? Burrows is only in her first year, and they have no other familiar faces. Maybe they should just start from scratch with people who would be willing to sign 3-4 year contracts, in order to build some continuity.

I think it's done unless they can bring back VDO/Erbe. This season (the 10th) is probably going to be the last anyway. I'd keep Mary Elizabeth Mastronio though she was good in her role. Burrows was pretty bland as Goldblum's partner. Bring back Courtney B. Vance while they're at it.

re: Law & Order: Criminal Intent
I cant for the life of me figure out wht people keep casting Saffron Burrows. She is terrible in everythign I have seen her in. Not believable as a detecive in CI, not hot enough to be Alan Shore's object of lust on Boston Legal, and definitely not believable as a psychiatrist on the short lived My Own Worst Enemy. As for Goldblum, he is playing the same character he played on Raines. Minus the talking to dead people of course. But it is as if he is trying his best to be Goren, when he so clearly isnt.
As for casting ideas, I think they should bring back Mike Logan again. He is great.
